“Fast food doesn’t sound too bad. Point me in the right direction?”
“Just down the way. I’m actually getting a bit hungry myself. Mind if I tag along?”
“Sorry. I’m just in a bad mood, and I shouldn’t take it out on you,” Elias mumbled and looked at him “I just….are we….this is a serious relationship, right?”
“Elias, I really do enjoy our time together. Though it might not be all the time, it’s better than nothing, right? And, this is as serious as you want it to be.” Sometimes, Axel didn’t know what their relationship was. And, quite frankly, he didn’t really care. Maybe this was just a fling for him. “Let’s just take it easy and worry about today okay?”
That was actually such a great idea that Andrew was silent for a second or two before a chuckle escaped him. “You’re a genius” Andrew then stood there for a few more seconds in deep thought before answering again, “Do you know any good food places around here? I’m obsessed with food so..” This time he snickered, feeling like his idea sounded dumb.
“The Vine is pretty good. But get’s a bit pricey. But, the burger joint does have some great food there if you want something quick.”
“Cool. Can’t wait to show you my house and everything,” Elias said gently, but then sighed “I’m always the one to invite you. It’s the only way I ever see you” He said tersely.
An eyebrow rose at the clear jab at him, and tried to not directly attack him straight back. Elias didn’t take confrontation very well. “Well, I figure since you always invite me, I don’t have to in return. I don’t think there’s been a day where you haven’t invited me over.”
Andrew figured he probably looked really pathetic in his current state, but if there’s one thing Andrew learned from his wise years it’s that fuck people’s opinions. “That’s the thing, I’m new around here and don’t really know which way my ride took to drop me off here from my dorm.” Andrew shrugged, desperately hoping that this guy was a local. “Baxter University?”
‘That’s not too far from here.” Axel stated, looking across the way and pointing at a nearby light post. “The best way to get around town is finding someone thing is familiar, always be familiar and trace everything from there. If you find that thing, you can find where you are immediately.” He then shrugged as he looked at the other man, “Now the real problem is finding that one object.” He snickered.
“Oh, I understand. That would be nice, you don’t have to go out of your way if you’ll be busy,” Elias said softly “Um, do you want me to make you some dinner or something?”
“I wouldn’t mind at all coming to visit, Eli.” Axel replied. “If you want. you were the one to invite me over, again.”
“Oh, did you want to go to Thanksgiving at my parents’ house?” Elias sighed softly “Sorry I’m not myself right now. Just, tired”
“I’d love to but my family loves having Thanksgiving dinner. But we could definitely meet up that morning.”
Andrew raised his own eyebrow in annoyance, not towards he stranger but towards his unfortunate circumstances. “I got ditched by some guy that was gonna give me a ride” Wiping his heavily soaked hair to his side, he stood up with his phone clutched in his hand. “Working here has it’s perks, I love the toasted turkey sandwich with wedged fries personally” he joked a little too sarcastically than he intended.
“Sorry..” He mumbled a moment later before he shrunk back towards the wall, texting angrily to his ride before turning his phone off with a sigh. He looked up at the stranger with a smile this time, “people suck” he joked.
Axel watched the other respond to him and smirked at at his predicament. It wasn’t the first time someone ditched another dude for something else. It probably happened more times than not. “Well, I’m pretty sure your ride isn’t going to be coming anytime soon.” Axel smirked, hearing the rest of his reply. The sarcasm was quite refreshing thought it was a bit too exaggerated. Those who had a knack for it did it well. Most others just left Axel chuckling at what they just said.
He simply shook his head, “No you are fine. I prefer the sarcasm over the harsh realities of working with people and relying on people.” Hoping he got the comment, Axel had a way of making complete sense sometimes, while others thought he was an idiot. “And, you are not wrong in that.” He paused before looking around. “How far do you live from here? Can’t start walking can you?”
Eli frowned “What, uh, what was I talking about, sorry?” He looked down.
“Something about the holidays...?”

Sage sometimes worried that her relationship with Axel was annoying to him, since like she mommed Kai, she did the same to Axel but in closer quarters. She’d make dinner and leave sticky notes with puns written on them on the containers to make him smile when he went to eat it. She’d do his laundry when she knew he was having a rough day, folding it all and putting it away neatly. He never seemed to bring it up to her so she just assumed it was okay and it was a way for her to distract herself from a bad day at work.
The dark haired girl let out a yawn, tired from her shift before letting out a tired chuckle. Sorry to hear about that. She teased as she ran a hand through her hair realizing it was a bit frizzy from the heat all the customers had made in the small coffee shop. Have fun with that. Sage quipped, knowing that if she had to spend time with family on halloween it would consist of her getting yelled at her mother for not being married yet. I’m always a slut for candy. She said bluntly, obviously joking hoping to get Axel to laugh.
“I think this year Eddard will actually remember what Halloween is this year so I think it will be one to remember.” Though he never liked being sentimental, when it came to his little brother, that’s all he could ever be. Hopefully his little brother would not fall into the same trap when he was a kid and wanting the love of his father to the point of giving into his grandiose ideas. Eddard would have every opportunity to be whatever person he wanted to be. “Last time we talked, he wanted to be Ironman.” He shrugged his shoulders a bit before snickering at her last comment. “Oh I don’t doubt that.”
Axel sat there staring at his computer screen, trying to figure out the right words to write for his psychology class. Of all classes, he took these the most serious as they fueled his graduation and helped him unlock the human mind. And, even though many of the citizens of Crowns had special abilities, studies shown that not one mind was any different than a regular human. Only their physical genetic makeup was radically different. He twirled in his head and poked his head out his door to see if Sage was around. Hoping she wasn’t, he sat there in complete concentration, trying to figure out his name sake. Never once did he ever think about where his name came from. Just accepted it as who he was and moved on with his life. He didn’t have time to look at his name when other people intrigued him so much more.
Turning back to the computer, he pulled up a web browser and quickly searched the meaning of his name. Regardless of where the idea his parents got, he wanted to know what it meant. Chuckling, he found the meaning of the word in six different languages, all pointing to the phrase ‘Father of peace’. Leaning back in his chair, Axel was not the one to want peace but a little chaos in the midst of the calm. Maybe his parents liked the name from some old friend they knew. After searching up his last name, Axel couldn’t help but laugh at the name as it meant ‘goblin’ in German. It was interesting how that name came about and why it was his last name.
He leaned back in his chair once more and stared blankly back at the screen. Maybe the point of the lesson wasn’t to ever figure out where you came from or what came with the name. But, more what you did with the name you have. Of course, now when people hear the name Axel they will think of him. Funny how names seep into the mind and are connected to such a simple concept or idea, or in this case, a personality. As he wrote, most of his words were just that, making a name for himself with the name he had. When the assignment asked to give a brief statement of whether he liked his name or not, he simply put…
‘ I’m proud of my name because of the name I made it. No one else could’ve done that but me. Why else would I love a name like this. It’s mind and everyone knows it. ‘
Andrew was sitting on the side walk outside Angels & Kings, absently scrolling through his phone. He’d just gotten off work and was too lazy to change out of his waiter uniform. It was comfortable enough to move around in, he wore a plain black button up with a tie, black dress pants and dress shoes.
He didn’t think it rained much in Nevada which made staying out longer after work than normal. It reminded him of times when he lived in Seattle waiting for rendezvous outside the monorain station. Adjusting to new settings was stressing the hell out of Andrew lately with this new super secret town and letting the familiar feel of rain drip on his skin felt soothing as it simmered down his thoughts.
The sudden urge to sneeze broke his peace as it escaped his nose, making him realize that his hair, along with his clothes, were soaking wet. He wish he’d brought a jacket now because he was starting to shiver. Scooting as close to the entrance as possible to steal wifi, Andrew sent various rude messages to his ride. “Fuck” He said a little too loudly before chucking his already cracked phone on the ground.
Though he loved his time in the bar, most nights he came to do a little homework before heading home for the night. maybe to avoid the loving endeavors of Sage being the mother he really didn’t need. It wasn’t that bad of a thing to have, of course, just not needed all the time. Taking a step out the restaurant, he turned the corner to get out of the apparent rain. Noble loved to have random weather conditions to keep everyone on their toes. It was quite nice but not exactly what he was looking for when trying to get home.
Around the corner he saw one of the waiters of the restaurant, clearly tired from the work and probably frustrated about something. Axel looked at him fro a moment, hearing a word he wasn’t too fond of. He quirked an eye as he walked over and spoke, “You waiting for something or just on your break? I’m sure you simply love working hear hm?”
