Art reposters will never stop reposting just because the artists point out how much it negatively affects them. They don’t care about that they care about the positive response they get from YOU guys. Stop liking and following instagrams dedicated to mass art posting, I promise you even if it’s credited they aren’t asking permission first. Stop reblogging repost art. Stop turning a blind eye to the people destroying artists’ reach and credit.
I literally only have one rule in my writing and it is this:
No matter what I put my characters through, they make it. They get to make it to the end of the story and have everything work out and be ok.
Because that’s the story I need. So it’s the kind I write.
If you want a piece of writing advice: write a story that is what you needed to hear at whatever age your target demographic is. I can guarantee you there’ll be someone out there who needs to hear it as much as you did. And maybe you’ll help them the same way someone else’s story did for you.
For some reason, this hit home and I never realized it that I did this for my stories too
This is on point and I support this. This is also the best argument I’ve ever seen against the whole idea that a story is only good if someone dies.
Note to self
Stop thinking: “I’m not talented enough to execute this concept.” Start thinking: “I’m going to be a stronger artist when I’ve finished this piece.”
This is a fixed mindset vs. a growth mindset.
Your abilities are not static, and any challenges you have, anything that turns out different from how you imagined, is not evidence of failure, just a struggle towards improvement.

I struggle a lot with art. I literally can't do anything decently except trace. I feel like everything I create on my own is just laughable, and objectively? It sorta is. I just. I try so SO hard to follow tutorials and practice and I just never get better and it's so frustrating and depressing and i dont know what to do. I want to get better but i just never improve i cant afford to take classes and it feels like i'll never be able to create anything worth looking at. what should i do? Sorry.
Don’t feel like u have to apologize anon! It definitely is hard to keep going when you can’t see your own improvement, especially when you’re working hard at it, but please don’t give up! I personally believe that everyone can draw & improve, and it’s all a matter of finding what sort of learning works for you. There are plenty of free resources online, so taking classes are definitely not your only option. It’s hard for me to give specific advice without knowing you but maybe you could try:
Breaking down your goal into smaller goals i.e. This week I’m going to learn how to draw an eye rather than something like I want to be good at anatomy
Practice with a purpose! Even if you’re doing a trace to learn, think about what you’re tracing, so that you can apply it to your art. i.e. when you’re drawing the nose -> how is it positioned on the face? How close are the eyes to the nose? How far is the nose from the chin and the forehead? -> The next time you try drawing it on your own, you’ll have all these landmarks and notes in mind to figure out where it goes!
If tutorials don’t work for you, that’s ok!! Often tutorials are understanding how another artist does things, and sometimes that’s not always the easiest way to learn how to do it yourself. Look for other methods of learning, and try to find what’s best suited to you. e.g. videos/ step by step instruction/ books/ studies etc
If the end result looks bad, that’s ok!! Don’t get down on yourself, try to figure out WHY it looks bad/ What you don’t like about it, and avoid doing the same things in the future. i.e. the face is lopsided bc I drew one eye too high up (i do that a lot LOL)
Draw slowly! Tbh i struggle with this a lot bc I like to get things quickly done, but i’ve realized that it helps a lot to think about the lines you’re putting down as you draw. LOOK at your reference, how does the line go? Does it actually curve that way or am I just rushing to put the line down there? It’s ok if u have to erase a line 20 times, sometimes that’s what you have to do to get it right!! Be patient with yourself!!
I know this is all very general advice but I hope it helps you out a little? Feel free to drop me a message via tumblr messenger too if you want I’M HAPPY to give you resources/ help you out with your art!
Sometimes it’s difficult to be a graphic maker — we don’t get the privilege and the respect like what fanartist/fanfic writers do. Like when our works get reposted, not all, a few, (or none at all) would stand up for us. Unlike fanartist, they’d get all the ppl to stand up and defend for them.
When we call out the reposters, all they would say is sorry, we got it from the google. Or sorry, we didn’t know it was yours — doesn’t have a watermark. Well newsflash, gifs and graphics don’t magically appear in google. They were made and posted first somewhere — mainly in tumblr.
But isn’t it a common sense and courtesy that before you post something that isn’t yours, you’d still look for the source of it? And when you find it, ask for permission if you can repost it in other sites? Then credit the OP? Isn’t it like that with the fanartist? Why can’t we also have that as graphic makers?
Why? Because what we do is only “color and put sharpen and voila!”? No, it’s not like that. We do take time in making those graphics and gifs. I know that what graphic makers do is different from fanartist, but still, can’t we get the credit that we deserve? Can’t we get the respect that other fandom contributors and makers do?
Because we do make contents for the fandom too. Gif, graphics, mood boards, pic spams, whatever — it’s all part of the fandom too. Like fanartists, we contribute to the fandom content too, but why can’t we get the respect and credit we deserve for our works when it gets reposted or used without our permission?
Some would say to use watermarks. If you don’t know, watermarks also are cropped out, and as someone has told me way before — they make the post/gif/graphic ugly — that’s why some of us doesn’t have/use it. BECAUSE AS A GRAPHIC/GIF MAKER, WE DO KNOW WHAT OUR GRAPHIC/GIF LOOKS LIKE EVEN WITHOUT A WATERMARK. And we expect for people to just like or reblog them, not repost — or even if they wanted to, they would ask permission. Isn’t that a common courtesy? Isn’t it like that with any other content makers for the fandom — fanartist and fanfic writers? If their works are reposted somewhere and they’re not aware of it being there, they get upset — graphic makers are also like that.
No, I’m not mad that my gif/graphics are being reposted, I don’t mind, I’m even happy — if you asked permission. What I mind is that I didn’t get notified/got an ask for permission if it is okay to do it. Then I’d go to a different site, or worse here on tumblr too — and I’d see my gifs/graphics reposted without any consent or permission from me.
I love that I can contribute to the fandom in my own little ways, but sometimes, it’s frustrating, it’s saddening, and it’s tiring but we can’t voice it out that much, because, huh, we’re just graphic makers — content makers that are less important as fanartists and fanfic writers, though we do contribute to the fandom as much as they do.
