* This story is an updated version of this tumblr entry from last year!
Let me tell you a funny story that happened sometime last year.
Now, this story is a bit personal— nothing serious though; but it does reveal my name, so I guess it can’t get anything personal than that in this nameless and faceless age of internet posts.
Anyway, I went to Starbucks earlier that day, and ordered my usual.
After sometime, I heard the barista call out my name and my order.
However, as I was approaching the counter to claim said order, another girl arrived at the counter, pointed to my order, and stated that she wanted it iced.
As expected, the barista was confused and was about to take the cup back just as I finally reached the counter and said, “Oh, that one is mine!”
Funny thing was… that other girl and I had the same name!
Now I know this is not such a rare thing. It does happen, probably quite often, but definitely not in my experience at least— I grew up thinking my name was quite uncommon. In fact, now that I really think about it, I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone with the same given name as mine! I mean, there are probably “variations” of it, but it was never the same exact name. So, I was in for a wonderful surprise that day!
I thought it was pretty funny, and clearly the barista and the other girl did too! What at interesting morning that was. It made me think that maybe I should start my day early every day if these are the types of things life throws my way at like, eight o’clock in the morning at coffee shops!
And, going back to the story— later on, when a second barista finally placed the pastry orders beside our coffee orders, to our amusement, the orders got mixed up again! *insert laughing emoji here lol*
Naturally, we both went to the counter and got our respective orders, quiet laughs and full of smiles— the both of us, and the original barista too!
And while we were a little in high spirits, with the encounter being humorous and out of the ordinary, there was still some good-humored awkwardness with accompanying embarrassed eye contacts happening at the same time because it was quite apparent that we were both introverts, and the growing desire caused by all the attention was prompting us to go to the nearest exit immediately! lol
And so, a quick “Nice to meet you, and have a nice day!” was exchanged, and the amusing encounter finally ended with an endearing tone, which made the memory quite an unforgettable encounter — at least for me to actually remember it after all this time.
