HE USED TO love to dance: nights closing up the restaurant on fridays when rhys had nothing to do or nowhere to be but with his parents, mopping floors and wiping tables while inevitably, his mother would play salsa music and he’d be dragged into her ‘dance trap’, as he’d liked to call it. his father would sit on the side, correcting their moves as rhys’s mother taught him to dance. and he was told he was pretty good, at least by the wait staff at the restaurant. but it was never something he really pursued or showed off ( the confidence, clearly, deep, low in some valley ); frat parties involved more rapping and fist-pumping than actual moves allowed for. of course, there was a side of rhys that would be able to let loose and show off for a moment ( only while sufficiently intoxicated, of course ). it was a side of him that his best friend was poking at, tempting to come out. there was no question that he wasn’t having the greatest of weeks, and had a bit to drink to compensate for that fact. “ hey, you can fuck it up while you’re sitting, too, ” was his sorry attempt to defend himself. her dance moves immediately put a smile to his well-intoxicated state, but his eyes dropped to the floor as he shook his head. “ i fucking hate you, you know that? ” he asked, though the laughing in his tone completely spun his words to a remark of endearment. she complemented him perfectly, knew how to cheer him up when he was sulking around, just like he was now. “ you think these guys are ready to be shown the fuck up, though? ” he asked teasingly, eyeing the crowd of sweaty bodies dancing miserably to the blaring music. he had to admit, the baseline did make him want to move his feet a little. “ just one? you’re getting soft on me, i thought you’d at least want three.” rhys smiled as he finally jumped off of his barstool, grabbing his best friend’s hand in his as he led the way to the middle of the dance floor.
she tilts her head at his defense, a silly grin becoming present as she wags her finger from side to side. of course he’d find some way to get out of it but she wasn’t going to let him receive the satisfaction. if rhys was planning on moping around the rest of his evening, it was her duty to intervene - rightfully so. she continues to move fluidly besides him, arms above her head and her waist winding around briefly before she stops and laughs at his words. “ i fucking hate you too so it looks like we’re stuck together, “ she sticks her tongue out as she toys around with her blouse, it previously being unbuttoned from her interaction with dean but currently, it hangs off her shoulder loosely. her gaze follows his to the crowd, scoffing playfully at his question, “ uh, yeah? i’ve seen too many dudes fist pump and treat this like an episode of jersey shore. “ her hands makes a swift ‘no’ motion, face scrunching up at her previous statement but she had to admit, it was a bit entertaining. granted, she hid her fit of laughter behind her hand but it was worth witnessing a few overly intoxicated people have their variation of ‘dancing’ and ‘fun’. she became giddy at the acceptance of the dance and squeezed his hand tightly as she followed behind him. they were pretty much engulfed by the moving masses, bodies bumping into hers indirectly and before they found a clearing, she felt like she was having a sensory overload once more. “ c’mon, ” she does a quick spin, hand still grasping his. “ being my dance partner on some caribbean night isn’t enough for me. ”
