ayumu-akira:
Once the cup was filled to the brim, the demon pulled it out from under the girl’s wrist. Paying no heed to what blood fell from her flesh to the floor, he quickly swallowed down what was in the chalice. Her blood felt like a purifying energy, surrounding his body with an ethereal light as he absorbed the magic within. As the last drop fell from the chalice to his tongue, he let out a contented sigh. “Yours is a potent, yet not truly offensive magic.” He said with a slight chuckle behind his voice. “I know not the singular word for what you are. But know this: Your life is tied to something great and important. Something from nature itself that aids in the life of a world. You are its avatar. Its power, given sentience. Created by and for this thing. No god had a hand in your life. Not human in the least. In fact…you might well be more unnatural than I am. At least the gods created my kind. Yours is more of…an abomination.”
While he spoke Rias wrapped her wrist to hold off the blood while she dug out an apple gel to chew on. She was listening, very attentively in fact, but she did need to make sure that bleeding stopped.
She took a long, slow, breath and let it out on a whoosh. “So they really weren’t wrong when they said I was a monster… good to know…” Though she was trying to follow the logic from ‘nature spirit’ to ‘abomination’. Something in nature had apparently made her, though, so… That probably explained that part. Everything he was saying made sense with what she knew about herself.
“Thank you for telling me that much. It’ll probably narrow down the range by a vast amount, if I can figure out what made me…”
Perhaps it was a form of pity he felt for the girl. A pity born from the revelation that she, too, had been known to others as a monster. Admittedly, it was true in his own case. “Abomination doesn’t mean ‘monster’.” He said. “It simply means that the gods didn’t mean for it to exist.” His hand ignited in a radiant purple flame, grasping around her wrist to accelerate her healing. The fox made sure to maintain eye contact, sniffing at the air. “You smell of apples.” He said softly. “If I had to wager a guess...I’d say you were made by a very powerful and magical tree. Probably a guardian created by the world, itself, in lieu of any gods or spirits willing to take up the task. Whatever you are, take pride in it.”
