“D-did I cause trouble?” Not that he demanded that Azazel tell him anything when it happened. Az had done it by his own choice. But he’d had for him to be punished because of him–by someone as powerful as the devil. He didn’t have to be educated on it to know he was feared for his strength.
He accepted the wine in his glass, sipping it slowly. He wasn’t too fond of the wine he’d previously tasted. This seemed smoother though, sweeter. It wasn’t too bad. He found himself sipping a little more eager than usual, half forgetting his low tolerance for alcohol. He was caught worrying about Az until thankfully the lighter topic of camping distracted him. He was beaming once more.
“Never? Then we have something we can experience together!?” He was admittedly excited to hear that there was something that him and Az could both experience together for the first time. He had been around for so many years that such a thing was rare. He bounced a bit in his chair thinking about it. “So we’ll get a cabin in the woods. Um, s’mores. And–oh! Can we watch the sunrise together? I know I’m hard to wake up in the morning, b-but I’ll get up for that, I promise!”
He felt like he wanted to go right now. Just immediately share it with him. But he did his best to be patient. Oh but he was so excited. “I know it’s a little chillier but maybe if we bundle up we can go despite Fall coming? I don’t want to have to wait till Summer…”
A soft laughter escaped his lips as Sully immediately worried for Azazel. Leave it to him to worry about a supernatural being instead of his own mundane self.
You did not cause me trouble, no. Neither do you stop me from my duty on Earth, nor are you ratting me out to the Heavens. My Lord does not care about what I do on Earth as long as I do not disappoint him.
And me being with you is not something that could disappoint him.
Azazel did drink slower than Sully did, simply because he was used to drinking wine. To the etiquette that was behind it. As the General he was often invited to banquets and dinner parties hosted by Lucifer himself, so he knew how to properly behave. How to act like a gentleman, like royalty even if he had to.
Even if titles like these were nothing that mattered to him, at all.
There was so much excitement, not only in the glow of Sullivan’s face but also in his words, his voice. To Azazel, the idea of camping together hadn’t been anything special. He had camped outside a lot, many decades ago. Sure, back then it had been a different kind of camping, but still.
Yet, seeing Sullivan’s excitement and the happiness that it brought to him also sparked a little fire inside Azazel’s chest. He couldn’t help it but smile, a little more even than he had before.
Of course I can keep you warm.
I will always keep you warm, my love. And we can do all of those things you want. Watching the sunrise together, eating smores. You name it, and we will do it.
