Kane looked at her as he gave a soft smile, his past would be considered traumatic to some and maybe down right evil but he was going to spare her the deep details. He took off his coat and he settled in. "Well I can tell you a bit about me and I'll skip the really bad parts so you don't gain any trauma." he said gently. His icy blue eyes sparked as he looked at her and he took a deep breath before he was ready to spill.

"Somehow I doubt it can be any worse than what I've already dealt with, myself." Or rather, it wouldn't be anything that would make her any more messed up than she already was. The types of things she's seen through dreams would make anyone question their own sanity.

She knew just how cruel the world could be in all its various ways.

"Hit me with it. Let's see what you've got."

I'm already getting hours and shifts added to my schedule for training so my activity will be even more sporadic. I work tomorrow and Tuesday, off Wednesday and Thursday but I def need to start packing for my vacation next week. Cause then I work Friday to Tuesday and only have Wednesday off before I get on the road.

My coworkers are all excited and happy for me and say I'll do great so 👉🏽👈🏽 here's to hoping lmfao

Being the Port Mafia's training dummy was nothing compared to being blown up when he was still working for the Guild. Though if it hadn't been for that night, Lovecraft would have never had met Arahabaki Chuuya && he wouldn't understand the deep-seated need for bloodshed. That was not something Nefeloma would understand, he knew her opposition to the Port Mafia && it would be unwise to discuss it under the mafia's roof.

He took another swig of wine, sighing, ❝ I miss...having a partner... ❞

Lovecraft missed his partner.

❝ I do everything in the Port Mafia...alone, ❞ Lovecraft was not wholly opposed to working alone, in fact it was his preference, ❝ Does it...always feel like this? ❞

Lonely, like he was a drone among worker bees, no matter how often he was at Mori's beck && call.

❝ Our boss is...nice enough to me, ❞ A contract had been formed, something dear would be paid if it was broken, ❝ You are the only one that...bothers speaking to me. I fear...I stand out too much among the other members. I'm...too shy to talk to Chuuya. ❞

Heh, shy huh? That was rather adorable coming from someone like him. An amused yet melancholic smile that appeared on her face, for she knew the feeling of loneliness he was describing to her.

"For people like us....unfortunately it's how it feels most days. I've been here for - hm - almost a decade now. The brunt of my work is either done alone or with an assigned random person that fits the bill, but I've never had a solid partner to work and share that bond with. Now...maybe you knew, maybe you didn't, but Chuuya was also in a situation in which he got separated from his partner. The difference between the two of you is you're more honest about your feelings."

"You try bringing it up to him and he'll go on a tantrum about how he's glad the guy's gone, even though it's pretty obvious it fucked him up something fierce. Maybe you can talk about it just from your feelings to him. He'll go about it his own way but...it may make him feel a little more connected to you. Then maybe you can work your way up to getting him to spar with you."

She's not sure exactly how much she could do for him, but seeing as Chuuya was his main interest for being here she could at least try to make it that much more enjoyable for him.

"In the meantime, while it's not the same, do you feel like heading out to the pier with me? Maybe the sea air will do us both some good?"

"Truly, in a sense our names come from times long past. Though, I suppose that you were not alive during the times when yours was common? I have seen many such times come and go with the turning of the tides."

They move forward to join her - a request he sees little point in denying. Or - is this what Alaire means when he says something is 'an invitation'? They still don't quite understand the difference.

Sure, they have observed both many a time... yet, they never seem to be able to tell what changes them from one into the other.

"Truthfully, I have no such predilection. 'Doll' has become easier given my preference to switch gender presentations and others can forget to make the change from Faust to Faustina during such times. That and, as you may notice, I am made of porcelain, so it is an appropriate moniker."

"Hm. I see."

Though now she's more focused on her feelings about this situation. Her life was anything but normal, yet she's rarely ever the one someone else is so open about being out of the ordinary to. She can't tell if it's refreshing or if it's going to take some getting used to.

Either way she doesn't see it as a bad experience.

"I've only been alive for not even thirty years. If I had any previous lives I don't remember them. My name wouldn't even be popular in the country I'm from. It would be closer to here."

Which was kinda funny, now that she thought about it.

"Well then, Doll, I'll share my story if you share yours. It seems we're both here for the same person, so I'd like to get to know you better. What else can you tell me about yourself? And I'll answer any questions you have for me."

Their head cants slightly to the side as she speaks. Eyes roam over her for a moment, assessing. Quiet. This one's face... they've seen it in the weave before, but never had they thought they'd come to see her face to face and not merely within fate's design. How... intriguing. Suppose that even after all this time, even they could still be surprised after all.

"If we are speaking biologically, then he is not my family, no. Nor do I think... on a technical level, either." Doll shakes their head, a hand moving to rest under their chin. A moment of consideration. If their relationship made them family, then they supposed it was close enough. Maybe? These things tended to confuse the harbinger.

"Neff... that is a name I have not heard before. It is a pleasure."

"I am Faust Mortem-Vitae. Though you may, as many have before you, call me Doll if it so pleases you."

"You don't meet many people named Nefeloma in this day and age, though you also don't meet many people with yours. Surprisingly, my nickname is also the name of a clothing brand. Small world."

Because yeah, that did surprise her to suddenly see people walking around with her name on their clothes.

"Nice to meet you, too. You wanna come sit with me? It's easier to talk that way." Though she won't be upset if they choose to simply get closer rather than sit next to her. Some people don't really like being that close to strangers.

"That said.....what would you rather be called? Do you prefer I call you Doll, or do you like it better if I were to call you Faust?"

Lovecraft stumbled into Port Mafia's study, clothing disheveled, expression grim, && a bottle of wine in his hand. He fell forward onto one of the couches, considering falling asleep right there without even opening the wine. It'd been given as a gift in exchange for an artifact he'd acquired for Mori. 'Another offering', he'd been told. Alcohol did not inebriate Lovecraft in the way it did humans, but he desperately wished it did.

Sitting up with a groan, he popped the cork off the wine && took a long drink of the liquid, something expensive he'd drank amongst the other members of the Guild. It didn't matter to him, the flavor meant nothing && it was not as sweet as something like a milkshake, still Lovecraft indulged. He could not deny a gift from someone he had a contract with.

After settling further into the couch, he realized someone else was in the room, much to his chagrin. He'd hoped that the room had been abandoned && he'd have a break from the mafiosos who spent their time challenging him to a fight they could not win. Everyone but Chuuya seemed interested.

It wasn't anyone that had bothered him though, rather it was one of the couple people he could tolerate among the members of Port Mafia.

❝ How do you...do this all the time? I'm exhausted, ❞ Pausing for a moment, he offered the bottle to her, ❝ Want some? ❞

"You get used to it, though I suppose that doesn't really make it any better in the long run."

It would be a lie to say she wasn't just a little amused by the way he'd entered the study, remembering not so fondly on her own early years. She did warn him about the way Mori operated.

Neff moves from her current spot to walk over and sit with him on the couch, no hesitation in accepting the offer and taking a few sips from the bottle herself. She's more a cocktail than a wine girlie herself, but maybe in this case she's just helping him deal with another poorly-'thought'-out offering from their boss.

The bottle is returned with a 'thanks', resting herself against the back of the couch.

"So would you say today was the worst of it so far, or was it just about the same as the others?"

[[ Back to work tomorrow for a four hour shift, which wouldn't be bad if the air in my store wasn't absolutely fucked. It's been out for a month now, and the temporary units have been there for about two weeks. It was so bad on Sunday I came home with a massive headache that I had to sleep off.

The week of the 14th I have two 8+ hour shifts, which are going to be AWFUL with no cool air and all the bodies that will be in there because it's our semi annual sale. If the mall doesn't get it together and get these units fixed there's going to be a SERIOUS problem with a LOT of us getting overheated and unwell enough to work to our fullest potential.

On a plus note, I bought myself an AOI PC for my workstation, because my current setup with my laptop and drawing tablet has said tablet in a position that it's killing my back, so the AOI will be placed in a spot where I have more room to move my tablet in a more comfortable spot. That'll be in on Monday, hopefully.

I'll also be out of state the 18th-22nd, so depending either there's either gonna be no activity at all or I'll have the queue going. All my replies HAVE been taken care of, so if you're waiting on me for a reply please check my blog because it should have posted, save for my two most recent

Hours like this are always the most quite. Times like these are when they quite prefer being out. The weather is cool and the earth feels calm. No worry when it comes to following the hands of Fate. Nowhere to be in this moment. There is only Faust and the gentle breeze that sweeps part of their hair away from their face. Their eyes closed as they try to simply enjoy the feeling. Of all the things they do not understand - do not feel - this one they enjoy. This makes sense to them.

Another's presence has green eyes snapping open and their attention goes over the shoulder. Strange... they hadn't thought anyone else would be out here. Least, not someone they didn't recognize.

Was this... a friend?

Something else?

Human relationships still confuse them.

"Family..? Ah, you mean Alaire's. I suppose... it would depend on how you mean such a thing. He is... my eternal companion, but I do not know if this makes us family."

......was this another Lior situation Neff didn't know about? It wouldn't be surprising considering there was still a lot about his life and the people in it that he hadn't mentioned to her - and the people he did she knew bare surface information ( even when it came to Rui ).

"Family is what you make of it." Is what she decides her response is gonna be to them. Wasn't that the case for this little gathering of misfits? "But it's alright. I'm not really sure what to call myself in all this, either." Like, sure, she could just say she was his girlfriend, but why was she suddenly feeling so shy about it?

"But as far as names go, you can call me Neff."

"Howdy, there."

『👿』 "You and us both. Least we know it's nothing you haven't seen before. Pretty sure we met in the bath." That seems to be the only reason why xe's so comfortable rising up from where xe lays in bed, letting the covers fall off xem and xir host's silken tresses fall gracefully over xir chest.

Xe has no real room for the peace that comes with only just waking up, of course. Just when xe thought xe wasn't out because of some imminent, immediate threat, Neff goes ahead and proves xem wrong. Xir sigh is as heavy as the proverbial crown as xe casts xir eyes over to where Neff lays. "Can't trust the love of your life with this? Hope you're not asking us for advice on how to handle them. But we'll listen. Pass us a shirt?"

Once they were adequately covered by such a garment, xe finally deigns themself to rise out of bed, and to xir feet - stumbling a little as xe gets xir footing. "... don't even want to know what you two did last night. Bad enough back when it was short-term relationships."

Neff playfully sticks her tongue out at xem after xir stumble.

"Karma for being smart with me." Though it's very clear in her tone of voice that she wasn't actually any type of upset. A shame Yeong-Hui wasn't the one waking up to the doe knees, though Neff would, without shame, totally credit their black-out moment to her 'out of this world' performance.

She has to try not to laugh thinking about it. There's no way it would actually be believed, but it would at least make for a good laugh.

"My question is for you because it has to do with you." Her own clothes are put back on, doing some quick limb shakes and stretches to go about her day. "But first, food. Worked up an appetite."

Neff can't explain it, but the sky seemed like such a more intense shade of blue in Spain. Maybe that also came with the realization and processing of the fact that for one she was the one in Alaire's stomping grounds. It was a...surprising but not unwelcome turning point for their relationship. There were still many things they had to talk about, but him being more open to talking about emotions in the first place was a good start.

She didn't expect him to wanna bring her home though, especially to Rui after everything that's happened.

It was a bit awkward being around the two of them at the moment, so she'd decided to step outside for some air, lost in her thoughts...

Until she catches sight of someone else she hadn't quite seen before.

"Oh...um.....hi. Are you another colorful face from this family?"

A mumbled "uhhh" barely louder than a whisper as he's moving to gather himself back up, hand pushing hair out of the way.

❝I should get up and help.❞

Not that it was a problem, helping his father look for stuff when he had been made to put the groceries up from earlier, but... it just felt nice right now. Sitting somewhere familiar without any rush in mind, getting to recall memories. It's that feeling that makes him stop in his efforts, instead brushing away the dirt from the step for her to sit down.

❝He won't die if I stay a little longer. He might get huffy, but Rui is sentimental at heart. Can't yell at me for feeling so myself.❞

Well, he absolutely could- and probably would- but it wouldn't be anything he would take to heart. Maybe a little complaining, but what visit home wasn't filled with those complaints ?

Oh? What was this now? Was THE Alaire Solyn actually taking a moment to be open? And asking her to join him? Maybe she should come with him to Spain more often. It's not often he talks, well, not like this anyway.

The irony of winning over the selective mute who will refuse to shut up while alone in her company.

But for as much as they used to tease each other and the way they used to argue, they'd reached a point where they were trying to understand each other a little better. That's what you do when you love someone, right?

"What's on your mind?" As she sits down, Neff pulls her knees to her chest and wraps her arms around them, resting her cheek atop them to look his way. "I'd love to hear about it, if you'll let me."

Kane now felt bad for making her feel bad. His eyes tried to smile but they failed and he looked down. "I'm sorry for this, I didn't meant to make you feel bad for all of this. Its just me making myself like this." he said quietly as he held her close. "I could never resent you Neff, I'm just afraid you are rejecting me..I know that's not the case but my mind and heart are telling me otherwise. I really do like you so so much and I feel like you are turning me down due to me being too much for you at the moment when you are healing from your previous relationship." he said as he sounded hurt by his own words which were true.

There's a bit of relief when he holds her and says he can never resent her, not hesitating to return the embrace. She can understand what he's feeling, unfortunately.

"I know your brain is telling you that, but I need you to trust me and what I'm telling you, okay? I'm not turning you down and you're not being too much for me. I just want us to take things a little more slowly. I mean, we've only known each other a week."

She doesn't break the hug, only leans her head so she can look him in the eyes.

"I do feel like something could work between us based on how well we get along. I just wanna make sure we do this right. When I head back to America I don't plan on ghosting you. I wanna still talk with you, I wanna know how your days went, and I want you to feel like you can talk to me about the things that don't make you feel so great, too. I don't want you to feel like you need to hide those parts from me because you think you'll scare me away, or that I won't like you for whatever reason. A good relationship is being able to work through those, too, but we need to get there before we can know."

But she feels like she's doing a lot of explaining and not really saying what's important for him to hear.

"What I'm saying is, I want to make sure I know as much about you as possible to be the best girlfriend I can be for you. Will you do the same for me?"

Kane smiled gently as he let her inside the restaurant first and guided her to the table. Once settled he would speak again. "Well you do give those vibes and its a nice change from the chaotic and hectic presence if been dealing with most of my life." he said as he hummed gently. "I'd be more than happy to tell you about myself and leave out the trauma." he said as he chuckled gently. "I'd rather not bore you or make it awkward if I told you everything." he said as he turned a slight pink in the cheeks.

She settled her things next to her as she sat down, tilting her head a bit when she looks at him.

"I don't mind trauma in this situation. I tend to be someone that prefers deep emotional conversation over small talk, so long as it flows with the conversation and isn't just someone trauma dumping before they even say hello." Because there was a difference between just dropping emotional weight on someone and taking the time to share experiences like that together.

"But I also won't force you to tell me what you don't want to, so feel free to start where you're comfortable. I'll keep it the same."

❝ Oh, uh, based on what you said, I thought they were dead or somethin', ❞ Cupid said, the hand free of a cast raising to rub the back of their neck, ❝ Either that or they're like my birth father. ❞

Eros shifted uncomfortably, ❝ Um, he's... ❞

❝ He's a shitty fuckin' father is what he is, ❞ Cupid finished, ❝ Look, I don't wanna dump all that on ya', but all ya' need to know about our dad is that he doesn't give a single shit about me or Eros. ❞

They leaned against Eros, an attempt to keep him from breaking down at their harsh words. Any conversation about their father usually ended with him in tears && after the traumatic events the Lady of Rot had caused, Cupid couldn't bear upsetting him further. Eros simply went silent, pressing hard against Cupid's side.

❝ Anyway, tell us about your patron deity. Somethin' t' do with sleep n' dreams, right? ❞ They hummed, ❝ Folks like me can walk through dreams, I'm surprised I haven't run into her at all. ❞

Though usually, the dreams Cupid saw were much more intimate in nature.

Oh, the irony of them being right on both counts! It makes her let out a rather hearty chuckle.

"Actually, my father's dead and I'm estranged from my mom. Dad's the one I got along with best until the end. My deity is......complicated."

Neff honestly isn't quite sure where to begin when it comes to her relationship with her, so maybe it was best to start from the beginning of who this deity actually was.

"Origa herself isn't a deity of sleep and dreams. That's closer to what she's ascended me, too. Origa is more...an overseer of timelines and universes. You can consider her something akin to the scales - some timelines and universes do better than others and have a lifeline of their own. When there are anomalies within them that are endangering the core of these universes and timelines, that's when she actually steps in. but as you can imagine it's difficult to exist everywhere and nowhere at the same time. It's difficult to remember which version of who is where, so she focuses on the main things within them. That said...."

That is a very heavy sigh she just did.

"It's like having a guardian that knows how to inconvenience you at every possible moment."
