EVENT: The Glebe-Bank Street Projects
The Glebe-Bank Street Projects Presented By Carleton University – Azrieli School of Architecture Workshop on Urban Studies and Heritage Conservation In Partnership with the Glebe BIA and protypeD Studios On Sunday, December 18th from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. the Glebe Business Improvement Association is being hosted by the Carleton University, Azrieli School of Architecture -Workshop on Urban Studies and Heritage Conservation in a terrific, interactive “meeting of the minds”. For the 2011 Fall Term, a multi-disciplinary team of eleven young entrepreneurial designers and urbanists was tasked with producing design and planning proposals to respond to real issues faced by the Glebe commercial district as a whole, and additionally for ten participating individual Glebe businesses. Sunday’s presentation showcases the student’s work. The Carleton University team is comprised of Leah Broome, Tiffany Douglas, Zeynep Ekim, Laura Fiset, Brooke Herczeg, Megan Molson, Paula Prada, Nikita Shinde, Luke Schnurr, Andrea Yeatman, Nikki Meng Qi Zheng, and instructor, Jim Mountain, with Janak Alford of PrototypeD Studio Presentations will be held in room 435, Azrieli School of Architecture Building (across from the Unicentre). Seating is limited and so an RSVP to [email protected] would be appreciated.

A space is more than just a building, and you cannot talk about space without considering the role of culture in shaping it. A Tribe Called Red have been building a new cultural space in the nations capital for several years with their Electric Pow Wow parties. On the surface is original dance music that brings people together for a great time. Below is a motivation to create a cultural space for the urban aboriginal that is authentic and progressive. For this special edition of the Electric Pow Wow, the ATCR crew will integrate traditional singing into their performance and re-organize the dance floor in a special location, rich with its own spacial history.

Bring your swim suit to this one-of-a-kind sound performance at Ottawa's first municipal swimming pool. Responding to the unique sound properties of the pool, with it's echoing tiled surfaces and potential for underwater phonics, Jesse Stewart and new media artist Rob Cruickshank will flood the space with percussive and electronic sounds until you are swimming in sound. Their audible landscape will spam from haunting electronic sine waves to irregular jazz rhythms and will feature a drum kit staged on a platform in the pool, a watergong, hydrophones and a custom built synthesiser.
