Last year, Bill SkarsgÄrd made four movies in a row. He will never do that again.
â Between "Dead Man's Wire" and "The Death of Robin Hood" I had a break of more or less two days, he tells TT from a hotel room in New York.
The pace of work is not something the Swedish actor would recommend. Now he has decided to take the entire summer off.
The call from New York is based on the aforementioned âThe Death of Robin Hood.â There, SkarsgĂ„rd plays the role of Little John, companion to Hugh Jackmanâs Robin Hood. Here, he is not a noble hero.
â He is a selfish villain and bandit who only murdered and stole his way through England in the 13th century, says Bill SkarsgĂ„rd .
In a battle, Robin Hood is badly injured. He ends up in a monastery where he is given the opportunity to look back on his life and regret some of the atrocities he has committed. From the realistic and bloody opening scenes, the film transitions into an almost meditative study in guilt and regret â and reveals secrets that threaten to further cloud Robin Hood's final days.
Dark and violent
The film is dark and violent, shot in the Irish wilderness. Bill SkarsgĂ„rd says that âit might be a Robin Hood for our time.â
â It is dark in tone, it is dark in violence. It is perhaps something that represents the general state of affairs today. It is a dark tale but it is also beautiful in this. It is about someone who must find some kind of reconciliation before he dies.
Bill SkarsgÄrd got his own introduction to the myth of Robin Hood through the Disney animated version.
â I was just asked if I had seen it. It's hard to avoid that if you're Swedish.
âStolen and murderedâ
He says the team thought about a so-called backstory, that you could imagine Robin Hood being some kind of cult leader. Now only Little John remains in his company.

After last year's four film shoots, it's now time for a vacation with the family in Sweden.
â I have nothing going on right now. I'm looking forward to being off all summer.
The other year there was talk of a possible continuation of the Clark Olofsson TV series. Has that project been shelved?
â No, it depends a bit on me and Jonas Ă kerlund if we can do it. Clark has passed away, and there is quite a lot more to tell about him. His life was not finished where the series ended. But we'll see. It's a character I've had fun with. âą
