I think it's very important to understanding Shadow Milk Cookie's character to acknowledge that he has almost never been truly free and in possession of full agency over himself.

The Fount of Knowledge was horribly repressed and shackled to his 'divine responsibility' and the demands of every cookie who wanted anything from him, then shortly after corrupting Shadow Milk Cookie spent probably thousands of years locked in a tree and had half of his souljam ripped away from him in the process, and even after breaking out of that prison he couldn't be truly free because his very body belonged to Dark Enchantress Cookie, and then in the final battle he's stabbed, frozen and trapped in silence, and has the power of the half a souljam he's got left drained out of him, and as if all that isn't enough, in order to survive he has to absorb part of the ultimate dough, which we know is functionally a parasite with 'ego erosion' abilities which hollows a person out from the inside and forces them to make decisions they normally wouldn't as it replaces their true personality with chaos magic, so functionally his actions are no longer even entirely his own.

That is a terrible life. Shadow Milk Cookie is a person who was born to be a puppet on a string, and no matter how violently he tries to sever those strings, it seems there's always more to bind him. Which is part of why I find The Ultimate Dough so horrifying, not just in general, but specifically in relation to Shadow Milk Cookie's infection with it. I think it is horribly cruel for somebody who has never once been truly free, who has felt their autonomy ripped away over and over again, to have to feel their mind eaten away at and overwritten by something else. And it would be one thing if he'd absorbed part of The Ultimate Dough entirely by choice, entirely for power, but he did it out of a desperate desire just to live, and that makes it scarier to me.

As annoyed as I am with Shadow Milk, I really hope that he doesn't die due to the symbolism behind such a plotline. If he does die, it should be potrayed as a bad thing. Cause istg, all these lessons about how truth and deceit must co exist for knowledge to be obtainable because the absolute truth doesn't exist and deceit isn't even always a bad thing and blah blah blah... all just for the literary personification of deceit to be killed for the "happy ending"... You guys see the implications behind that, right? It'd go against everything the story has been teaching us so far and further feed this "truth good, deceit bad" mentality that this fandom loves to insist on despite the narrative of CRK itself repeatedly critizing that mentality.

Sigh. You know. I really love Eternal Sugar Cookie. She made a lot of mistakes but she meant well, she just wanted everyone to be happy. And here comes this stupid fucking blue abomination of a jester invading her garden and causing problems for her on purpose because his situationship didn't work out so his solution is to come to HER house and have a BPD-off with her telling her that her situationship was gonna fail talking about some "obsessive love can be oh-so stifling!" As if he didn't do the same shit with Truthless and fumbled him. And then when Sugar finally finds the courage to leave her garden, she gets set on fire in front of the hoes and basically dies and that blue RAT absorbs her and then wants to cry about how she was his friend. I need him fucking GONE.

stop making your redeemed shadow milks mentally fine. no. redeemed/rehabbed shadow milk would be having the worst fucking time of his entire life. not only does he have to completely destroy and reconstruct nearly every belief he has held, crumble what little identity he had managed to force together from those beliefs, he is also doing so while being forced into a situation that inherently destabilizes any control he could possibly feel. rehab-ing shadow milk is a shadow milk that is scared and mad and who hurts and hurts and hurts, but can't do ANYTHING with those emotions lest he be, say, imprisoned again. this is a shadow milk forced to grapple with how much he's been hurt and dehumanized and ignored and stomped on by the entire world, and what that would do to him now that he's lost every scrap of control he possibly had, COMBINED with his utterly failing physical state and all of the mental illness i'm sure he's left untreated
