This is the final submission version of the animatic, most parts are animated to finished standard, but because of timing and because of how long modelling and rigging took, it slowed the whole process up.Â

This is the block untextured animatic.Â
This is the Animatic that Bonnie did from all my concept work. This is the 2D animatic to get a feel for timing and spacing on screen.Â
Because the school girls will be wearing the same uniform as Dusty, the only things I needed to draw up for them was their heads, and this is what I came up with. I figured they needed to look different from Dusty, so I didn’t draw glasses for any of them.Â
This will be the end two shots of the video, when Dusty is talking about not finding anything in the bible about it being wrong at that it should be okey to marry someone if they love one another.Â
I came up with this design for Dusty, as a completely different alternative; however everyone ended up liking this design so we stuck with this for Dusty.Â
This is the design for the school background, I wanted it to look like a grammar school, and quite grand looking!Â
In between us finding a new style for Dusty, I drew up “the boss”. I liked the idea that God would be some suit wearing corporate man of the 1940′s because that was what bosses looked like in the young years of Dusty, and I thought that was probably what she thought he looked like when she referenced Him as “the boss”. When we presented this look to the class, we got one concern that it may be offensive, however I’m still in the frame of mind that the image of a boss looks like this, therefore it wouldn’t be offensive.Â
Austen the director didn’t like the first designs so I gave the group this to mull over, but this wasn’t the style we wanted either.Â
This was the first design of young and old Dusty together.Â
This was the initial idea for Dusty, with Eran Hilleli’s work in mind.Â
We looked at this artists work and wanted to create something with this stylised outcome, but not as blocky. We liked this style because it looks up to date and also it will challenge us in animation.Â
Style
We decided we wanted to try and create something with a 2.5D finish, which is basically 3D but made to look like 2D work. This was because we wanted to challenge ourselves and find out how to create something new within 3D.Â
References will include Gravity Falls and Futurama.
Dusty talks with Margaret about being Gay and their shared faith.
Here is the audio piece that we chose as a group. We chose this one in particular because it talks about wrestling with homosexuality growing up and when believing in God. We chose this because it is close to some of our own struggles and it has some great pieces of audio in which can have brilliant animation added to it because of the imagery that you receive from the piece.
We narrowed it down to the part where Dusty is talking about growing up and finding one girl at school particularly attractive, and then she goes on to tell us about the struggle she had when talking to God or “The Boss” about her feelings because it wasn’t widely accepted in her youth to be homosexual.Â
BBC listening project
This term we have been given the chance to work for the BBC, and produce an animation from listening to one of their radio pieces. We have to listen to the radio piece, find the best minute’s worth of audio and then animate to it.Â
My group consists of:Â
Bonnie Scott, Henry Gorick, Nathan Massey, Nicholas McKenzie and Austen Nuttall.Â
I have chosen the role of art director because that is something that I would like to do, given that I want to go into character design and concept art.Â
