Grace doesn’t remember that he’ll a Little at first after waking up, until the fear and sadness gets to be too much and he has a huge, sobbing meltdown. His head feels weird and everything is so big and scary, and all he can do is curl up in a ball and cry. His thumb finds its way into his mouth, and he sucks at it fitfully.
And then he hears Mary’s voice, somehow softer than usual: ‘“Do you require your regression supplies, Dr. Grace?”
His brain is too foggy to really understand what she’s saying, but her voice sounds warm and nice, so he pulls his thumb out of his mouth long enough to gasp a tearful, “Uh huh.”
He hears a door hiss open. He toddles to his feet, feeling awkward and clumsy, and manages to get to the new room that just opened. There’s a storage room, full of plushies and soft blankets, comfy looking clothes in soft colors with cartoon animals on them, pacifiers, bottles, diapers…it’s so much, he’s a little overwhelmed, so he just grabs a big stuffed fox and lays down in the stack of blankets, making a little nest for himself. He manages to fumbled one of the pacifiers out of the packaging and pops it into his mouth, instantly soothed by the sensation. He sniffles, rubbing his tears away on the fox’s soft fur, and falls asleep there.
The next day, after he wakes up Big again, he writes ‘Little’ on the dry erase board of things he knows about himself.
He thought he was just one of *those* teachers who were really intune with the youth, just a slightly childish scientist!
But, it's getting harder and harder to believe that. He feels something weird, his head feels so heavy yet so light, his chest tightening with a fluttering warmth that sends chilld down his spine!
Yucky??? No, no he feels overwhelmed, that's the word, the adult term!
But there's a part of him who feels more *yucky* than overwhelmed!! Yucky is a blanket terms! It encompasses the overwhelmed, the sad, the scared, everything!!
It's too much for Grace and he just slides down, knees pressed against his chest as he sobs and sobs💔 it's frantic sobs, gulping for air between wails, he can feel the little bit of excess saliva as his thumb instinctively slides in his mouth.
Near instantly he feels this odd soothed sensation by the unpattered suckling of his thumb, his cheeks hollowing out with each inhale.
That's when Mary's voice comes through the cloudy, fuzzy fog that is currently Grace's mind.
Regression supplies? The term sounds so foreign yet so familiar. So he toddles over, thumb still firmly set in his mouth.
When he sees the room, more memories flood in but they're fuzzy, fragmented. But they're...comforting, soothing feeling as Grace shuffles into the thing of blankets. He thumbs over the plush fox's ears before pressing it against his face, a sense of relief washing over him.
'Little' is definitely on his whiteboard with a little doodle of a fox and star♡ (the soother definitely always in his jumpsuit's pocket...Just in case!♡)
