ok so new au for my wonderful child chassie ( @taegixjikook )
when jeongguk first realized he had a soulmate he was nine years old and his older brother came home with the mark on his wrist all colored in. his mother had explained to him that when you meet your soulmate, the marking on your arm will bloom with color and you’ll be together for life. jeongguk had thought it sounded weird and then his mother had told him they were having buddaejiggae for dinner to celebrate for his brother and he forgot all about it.
a few years later it came up and jeongguk researched his mark. it was a detailed design of cosmos astrosanguineus that wove from his wrist almost to his elbow with the stems seeming to grow from his inner elbow. jeongguk learned that they were a nearly endangered type of flower and became invested in learning more and more about them. the more he learned the more grew to love them and to love flowers in general.
it came up over the years of course but jeongguk never really put much thought into trying to find his soulmate, he figured that when the time was right they would just fall into his arms. he didn’t think he would be so right in such a literal sense. kim taehyung, 22 year old photography major and most beautiful man jeongguk had ever seen in his 20 years of life, fall right out of a tree and into jeongguk’s arms. (that’s a lie, he landed right on top of the poor botany major and had to help him to the student union to get an ice pack and some painkillers but jeongguk will tell his version.)
but something odd had happened during that magical moment of first contact, the moment when your mark is supposed to fill in. the intricately woven pattern of cosmos atrosanguineus flowers on jeongguk’s and taehyung’s forearms had only filled in one third of the way. the spotted bulbs of the flowers and the brilliant red petals had filled in like paint over a blank canvas, but the stems that curved over both of their arms had remained grey and empty. it troubled jeongguk sometimes because it felt like they weren’t quite finished. like they still needed to grow. he was happy with taehyung, god he’d never been happier, but it still felt like something was missing. and when he brought it up, taehyung thought so too.
when jeongguk had first said it felt like something was missing in their bond taehyung had agreed immediately. they were happy together, they both knew that, they both loved each other more and more with each passing day, but no matter what, whenever taehyung saw those grey stems in the corner of his eye, he couldn’t help but feel a space in his heart ache to be filled with something he didn’t know.
“come on ggukie, you owe me from last week when i payed for chicken delivery, it’s your turn to cover date night!” taehyung happily tosses a bag of shrimp chips in the basket jeongguk is holding before making his way down the next aisle, giggling at the soft grumbles that follow him in the form of his boyfriend.
“come on gguk, don’t pout,”
“you love my pout,”
“i do! but unless you want me to kiss you right here, right now, you better stop pouting,”
jeongguk’s ears flush and taehyung snorts and pats his butt before tossing another bag of chips into the basket and moving on to the next aisle, jeongguk’s hand firmly grasped in his own.
min yoongi is not a bitter person, in fact, he’s quite a nice person, at least once you get past his blunt bitch-face. all he wants to do in life is finish his masters in education, open his own little elementary school, and live in peace with his dog holly. that’s all he wants. what he doesn’t want is to be hearing two ridiculously in love soulmates prancing about the convenience store behind him while he tries to buy his pitiful ramyeon dinner in peace.
yoongi hears something a thud and a muffled yell of pain and glances back to see the dark haired, more quiet boy has stubbed his toe on of the racks and is grimacing sourly while his soulmate pouts cutely at him and kisses his cheek. the dark haired boy seems to melt like putty into the other’s arms as they encircle his shoulders and the soft brunet coos at him softly. yoongi turns back to the rows of ramyeon in front of him and tries to hold back his frown. so maybe he’s bitter he’s 25 years old and still hasn’t met his soulmate, so what. it’s not like it’s left him with serious self esteem issues and a lasting fear of dying alone. it’s whatever.
he slams down two packages of ramen and winces when he realizes he probably just crushed half of them as the cashier rings him up. the soulmates appear to be done too because he can hear them right behind them and they’re whispering not too quietly to each other about what movie to watch. yoongi has to agree with soft brunet’s choice of howls moving castle over dark hair’s suggestion of fast and furious. the cashier thanks him for his patronage and yoongi turns away quickly, bag clutched tightly in his hand. he’s almost to the door when a larger, warmer hand, is clamping down on his wrist and tugging him to a stop in a way that is way too similar to a drama to be taken seriously.
“hey you forgot your-…change,”
yoongi stares into soft brunet’s eyes for a long moment before both of their eyes are trailing down to where soft brunet’s hand rests over yoongi’s bare wrist. they both watch in wonder as the stems on both of their arms fill in with brilliant green and the petals of yoongi’s flowers flood with a rich red pigment.
soft brunet gapes and yoongi is just staring in shock at his arm as soft brunet is suddenly tugging forward an equally open mouthed dark hair and gesturing towards yoongi’s other hand.
dark hair’s hand is a bit smaller but it’s just as soft and perfect as soft brunet’s as he twines their fingers together and they all watch, mystified, as the stems of dark hair’s arm fill in and the buds of yoongi’s mark fill in.
taehyung feels like his heart is going to beat out of his chest and he can’t hold back the smile from his face as that space in his heart floods with warmth as he looks at the pale, blond man in front of him. he squeezes both of his hands tighter against his soulmates and his heart soars.
jeongguk can’t breath but in a good way. he worries that his hand might be sweaty where it hold his new soulmate’s but it’s quickly washed away with the relief that floods him as he feels something in him settle with content. this is it. this was their missing piece. finally.
yoongi feels like he may cry out of frustration and happiness all at once. all this time he wondered if he even had a soulmate and here they come out of nowhere, two soulmates with marks that match his looking at him like they’ve been waiting their whole lives for him and yoongi knows that as long as they’ve all waited, they’ll make it all up and more. because they have the rest of their lives together.
