that kind of night
âWow.â, Natalia said. âThese are actually really, really good.â Sheâd picked up a macaron from the snack table, and donât think sheâd like them this much. âTry one?â She turned to the person next to her.
Donovan grimaced and shook his head in rejection. âNo thanks. Iâm feeling sick enough as it is,â he grumbled - the very thought of food after all the alcohol heâd had made him feel sick. âBut you go ahead and eat.â
Natalia raised an eyebrow at the man. "You absolutely sure? Fine. If you say so." She popped another one in her mouth, and smiled.
"Wow.", Natalia said. "These are actually really, really good." She'd picked up a macaron from the snack table, and don't think she'd like them this much. "Try one?" She turned to the person next to her.

âYour parents had dinner parties full of teenagers?â She questioned as she tilted her head. Quickly, she pulled her hand away. âHave you even tried to have fun yet? Go talk to someone cute. Ask them to dance. It can be fun if you try.â
â no, they had fancy parties that were irritating and not worth putting energy into, â he said like a SIGH. â i donât want to, â alexander WHINED. â thereâs not a single person my age whoâs attractive. not that theyâd talk to me anyways, but thatâs besides the point. â
Anyone who had talked to Natalia at Plath, for the few hours she'd been at the school, knew that she was a reserved person. She observed, but it was hard for her to speak up. The boy seemed about the same age as her. God, she didn't want to weird him out or anything, but she did want to make conversation with someone. Even though she sucked at it. "Uh, hey.", she said. "I'm Natalia. I saw you a bit earlier..um" 'goddammitwhyareyoumakingsuchafooloutofyourswlf!' she scolded herself in her head "This is..awkward..I'm sorry." Her what was once a hopeful smile quickly faded, and she looked down at her black flats, ready to quickly walk off and scream out of embarrassment.

Natalia was just concerned. The blonde was standing against the wall, and she lookedâŠout of it. Natalia had never taken drugs, so she wouldnât exactly know how they FELT, but she could figure out if someone was on them. âHey..you alright?â, she asked in a soft, yet concerned tone. âIâm just checking.â

The brilliant red hair captured Catherineâs eye and she reached out to twirl a lock of it around her fingertip, âYes, Iâm fine. Just a little out of it right now, but Iâm okay.â Her hand floated back down to her side and she smiled, blissfully, at the other girl, âYouâre pretty.â
Natalia's face turned bright red the moment the blonde reached out to touch her hair, so one could only imagine the stuttering mess she became when the girl called her "pretty". Clearing her throat, Natalia spoke. "Oh, well, I'm glad you're alright. I'm Natalia, by the way. And you're very pretty, too."
babynvtlia:
âAlright, if you say so.â She didnât feel nearly as stiff and rigid anymore, she was almost jumping now. It wasnât anything special though, she was just swaying and lip syncing the lyrics, but for some reason, it felt damn good. She wasnât watching anymore, she was actually doing.
Jonah laughs as he watches her, clapping along, âVery nice, top notch,â he says over the music.
"Why, thank you very much!", she said jokingly. "What about you? Dance at all?"
babynvtlia:
She smiled softly at him. Natalia wasnât sure if it was convincing, but she tried her best. âIâm fine, really.â, she said. âJust remembered something..a little weird, thatâs all.â She didnât know Jonah very well, but he was one of the few people sheâd interacted with who actually listened to her. She hadnât gotten much luck with her parents in that. She didnât have many friends back home, maybe just her brother and one girl from art class. Natalia liked how that in knowing this boy for such a short amount of time, she felt valid and noticed. The music started to speed up to something a lot more fun than just a slow song, and she grinned at him. âI like this song!â
âThatâs good,â Jonah says, laughing lightly at the sudden mood change as he steps back, âGo ahead, dance like nobodyâs watching,â he says in an overly dramatic voice, grinning warmly.

Natalia struggled with her words. She wasnât quite sure how to explain this next part to him, it almost felt too..personal. For her most of her life, sheâd adored bustling life and cities. She loved strolling down and large crowds. But when she was 12, it all changed. âI..I could go, it was justâŠâ, she was rambling now, her eyes filled with the same fear they had on that day when she was 12..all the memories came flooding back, and she wasnât sure if she could tell him, or just keep it in.
âHey, itâs okay, honey,â Jonah says as he looks into her eyes, stroking her side in a comforting manner before pulling her towards him in a sort of hug, âDonât worry about it, it doesnât matter.â Heâd meant it as a benign sort of question, but, clearly itâd had a very different effect.
She smiled softly at him. Natalia wasn't sure if it was convincing, but she tried her best. "I'm fine, really.", she said. "Just remembered something..a little weird, that's all." âMost people donât. But, Iâve always liked New York..even though Iâve been maybe twice.â
âWhy so little? You mustâve been only a train journey away,â Jonah asks.

Natalia shook her head. âPeople are assholes. Thatâs a fact. When I was 13, all the boys tormented me every day during gym. âFat ass.â âFreckleface.â It really hurts, but they just wanna make a scene.â
Sarah groaned audibly. âUgh. Boys are the worst.â All of her best friends were guys, but that was beside the point. âBut youâre not fat. And freckles are pretty. Donât you know people draw âem on now? I kinda wish I had some, even if theyâd look like shit on me. Youâve got the whole âinnocentâ thing goinâ on. It works for you.â She shook her head, wearing a small scowl. âOh Iâm gonna make a scene alright. âCause I probably know who did it, and if I win Iâm gonna scream.âÂ
Natalia blushed at the compliment, and then smiled reassuringly at Sarah. "You do that. Make a scene. Show them what you're worth."

âI guess I could say I did. I donât like being at home much. It got too depressing. I donât know why, but Iâve always enjoyed being in new places . I want to know more about different things and meet new people. God, New Jersey was too boringâŠunless countless gas stations and walmarts are your thing..â
Jonah chuckles, shaking his head, âThe Jersey Shore, not the show, the actual place, is absolutely stunning, though. I was quite a fan of it when I visited. Iâm from New York, so,â he shrugs, smiling faintly, âBut, most people donât like their home state.â
"Most people don't. But, I've always liked New York..even though I've been maybe twice."
A dance like this certainly wasnât Catherineâs first rodeo; she knew how the alcohol would somehow rear its face, she knew some kids would find some way to smuggle in joints, and most would find some dark area to fuck each other. Catherine was also very well-aware of how boring it would be without a little bit of motivation, so, an hour before the ball, she popped a tab of acid - a remnant she managed to sneak in from before she was at Plath - and she was already into a drowning trip. She stood against a wall, running the silk fabric of her dress between her fingertips, watching the visuals distort everything about her. She saw someone, walking closer and closer towards her, and she carefully formed a polite, âHello,â when they got close enough.
Natalia was just concerned. The blonde was standing against the wall, and she looked...out of it. Natalia had never taken drugs, so she wouldn't exactly know how they FELT, but she could figure out if someone was on them. "Hey..you alright?", she asked in a soft, yet concerned tone. babynvtlia:
âI am, yes.â, she said softly. âAmsterdam is a beautiful city. Thereâs something in it for everyone. Itâs got history, but itâs also so fun and full of life. I think youâd like it.â
âWell, who wouldnât, darling?â Jonah says with a soft laugh, âNew cultures can be quite incredible,â he says, his eyes fixed on hers, âHave you travelled a lot?â
"I guess I could say I did. I don't like being at home much. It got too depressing. I don't know why, but I've always enjoyed being in new places . Nataliaâs face turned pink, half embarrassed, half flattered. âOh, um, I donât know. Just making conversation, I guess. And thanks.â She ran her fingers through her hair. Sheâd never really gotten that compliment before, but it made her feel like she was special. âIâm from New Jersey, but I moved there from Amsterdam when I was nine.â She wondered why he didnât answer her question. She didnât see herself as THAT interesting, if anything, he seemed more interesting.
Jonah hums as he listens to her, âThatâs interesting,â he smiles, âYouâre dutch, then?â he asks, though, itâs hardly a question, âI havenât actually been to Amsterdam, Iâd like to visit it someday, it seems to have a fascinating culture.â
"I am, yes.", she said softly. "Amsterdam is a beautiful city. There's something in it for everyone. It's got history, but it's also so fun and full of life. I think you'd like it."
babynvtlia:
âItâs pretty fun, actually. So..where did you come from? You know, before this place, obviously.â
âWhy do you ask?â Jonah says with a soft laugh, âWhat about you? Iâm sure youâre far more interesting. You have absolutely beautiful hair, Iâm sure you get that a lot.â
Natalia's face turned pink, half embarrassed, half flattered. "Oh, um, I don't know. Just making conversation, I guess. And thanks." She ran her fingers through her hair. She'd never really gotten that compliment before, but it made her feel like she was special. "I'm from New Jersey, but I moved there from Amsterdam when I was nine."
