im sorry but writing enemies to lovers on ao3 is so fucking funny. one of them will go a whole paragraph saying how much they hate, absolutely despise, have genuine burning contempt for the other and we’re all here knowing damn well that enemies to lovers tag is just sat there. like we already know what’s coming bro you’re just embarrassing yourself
the appeal of enemies to lovers though is less “oh will they ever get together?” and more “at what exact point does he go from wanting to kill the bitch to the oh in italics?”

at the time of posting this fic i just hit 200 followers on here and just… thank you once again, seriously. it means the world.
eddie munson watched from the shadows as you danced through the darkness of the forest, feet barely brushing against the dew touched grass. you moved through the woods as if you belonged, as if you were not another nymph-like goddess who would turn your nose up at the slightest of inconveniences.
he had been able to sense you before he had seen you, lurking amongst the shadows on the edges of his domain. the scent of ambrosia and nectar tinged meadow had enticed him— and you were currently staring straight at him.
“if you are trying to be discreet, i must admit you are lacking.” your voice is soft as you stayed in the moonlight, the light glistening off of your dew covered skin. “you smell.”
“do you often greet others by saying they smell?” eddie asked curiously, his head slightly cocked as he mimicked your movements- keeping to the shadows as he made his way closer to you.
“only those who smell of brimstone,” you teased softly, eyes bright as you clasped your hands at your front. “you smell of it and of…”
“say it, c’mon.” eddie purred as his voice dropped, the brunette stepping from the shadows. “what do i smell of, little goddess? death? suffering? like the blood of the innocent?”
“like the sky right before lightning strikes,” you answered, nearing closer as you walked forward as well. eddie paused at the grin on your face, as you shifted closer to him. “of the way the sunlight feels after it has already burnt your skin.”
“you are not scared of me-” eddie glances down at you, eyes trailing over the way your jaw is set. your wide almost doe-like eyes that blink up at him, of the curl of your red painted lips. “why?”
“death is just a thing, god.” you hummed softly, nose scrunching as you rolled your shoulders into a small shrug. “am i supposed to be scared of something that all mortals will eventually befall?”
“hades,” eddie hummed, stepping closer to you as he extended a hand. he dragged the knuckle across the flesh of your jaw, feeling the soft skin under his callous-worn. “but i go by eddie now.”
“persephone,” your grin was wider now, teeth almost bared as you uttered the name you now went by instead. eddie repeated it slowly, rolling it over on his tongue as if it would be the last word he spoke. “i take it you like the new name i have picked for myself instead?”
“yes,” eddie admitted softly, and he watched as you bent down- fingers tugging softly to pluck a flower from the ground.
it was fast, the change.
the way the bloom immediately darkened, wilting between your fingers as you extended the flower to him. when hades took it, the very flower that had once been full of life- crumpled to just ash.
“oh,” eddie’s tongue felt heavy in his mouth as he blinked up at you, hand empty though it once held the remnants of a flower. “you…”
“me.” you agreed, and eddie couldn’t help but huff out a soft laugh.
“what can i do for you, little goddess?” eddie kept his voice soft, though he caught the way you trembled under his words and touch. you paused for a moment as your brows furrowed, so eddie pressed on. “name it, and i will try my hardest to offer it to you.”
“company.” you murmured, voice almost broken as you forced the words through your lips. “i wish for nothing but your company.”
eddie nodded- once, then twice, before he finally spoke.
“that i believe i can offer you.”
•••
“have you ever known anything other than that of death?” you asked one day, and eddie looked to where you were sitting. a fawn sprawled across your lap, you with a bottle of milk in one of your hands. the other is curled along the fawn’s back, idly tapping along the fawn’s spots.
“i am the ruler of the underworld, of the upside down.” eddie huffed, shrugging as he leaned back on his palms.
the grass around him is dead, but so is the grass around you. the blades are wilted and ashen, as if they were never alive to begin with. it awakens something old and long forgotten in eddie. a thing that seemed to be from the old gods, from before eddie was who he was; before you were who you were. before anyone was anyone else.
“and yet that was not my question,” you hum as the fawn finishes it’s meal, and you allow it to curl further into you. “have you ever known anything other than death?”
“no,” eddie shook his head slowly, curiously watching as you hummed in acknowledgment to his answer. you leaned back onto your palms, your face tilted towards the sun. he paused for a moment, licking at his lips- before he asked you his own question. “have you ever known anything other than life?”
you look at him and giggle, shaking your head in replacement of answering with words.
he’ll take it, eddie thinks.
he’ll take anything you’re willing to give him.
•••
“i am so tired of this,” eddie listened to you admit, your sugar and ambrosia scent tinted with that of his. the brimstone, sulfur, the tinge of death that eddie knew clung to him like a second skin. you didn’t seem like it bothered you though.
“i am sorry.” eddie said softly, watching as you hiked your skirts up so they didn’t drag through the stream you both were walking through. “is there anything i can do for you?”
“i don’t believe so,” you hum out, and eddie can’t help but grin at you before he speaks next.
“you know… death is a very stable job.” eddie shrugs his shoulders slowly, shaking his curls around his shoulders as if what he just offered was something simple. “if it ever… intrigued you.”
you giggled, a soft sweet sound that caused the very center of eddie to twist and writhe. he tried to think of other things; of the elysian fields, of the very pits of tartarus, of the river of styx.
he tries to not think of the way you are as bright as the very constellations in the sky. he tries to not think of how you are like a galaxy bursting to life in front of him. he tries to not think about how he wishes to kneel at your very feet, to name you his queen.
he tries, and yet he fails.
•••
“take me to the under,” eddie heard you ask, your voice soft as you coax eddie’s hand into your own. your flesh is warm against his cool, and eddie watched as you twisted one of his rings around his finger. “take me to your kingdom.”
“goddesses of spring aren’t supposed to enter a land of death, y’know.” eddie teased, rubbing his thumb against the back of your hand. “what would your mother think of me corrupting you?”
“i would tell her it is i who has corrupted you.” you murmur as you press a soft kiss to eddie’s palm, eyes bright as you flash your teeth at him in a smile. “take me to the under, to the upside down.”
eddie can’t find it in him to brush your request away.
so he takes you. he takes you to the skull-shaped rock that marks the gate to the underworld. he helps you cross the river of styx with help from the boatman (who now went by the name argyle). he watches as you pick your way through his world, how you seem to bask in the very heat and darkness of the world you’re both in.
he introduces you to the fates; to the spinner, to the allotter, to the inflexible. they go by different names now, as everyone does. max, eleven, and erica. you greet them as if you were old friends.
in another life, maybe you were.
he introduces you to the furies; to robin, to nancy, to steve. you talk with them as the five of you walk through the asphodel meadows, and you walk amongst death as if it is engrained in your very being.
eddie starts to believe (to hope) that it is.
you meet the judges; mike, dustin, and lucas. you talk to them as if they are yours, as if you understand everything they spout and ramble on about. there are days that even eddie cannot pretend the words they speak of. when you leave the four, you flash eddie a knowing smile.
he pretends his heart does not skip a beat.
you meet thanatos and hypnos last; jonathan and will. you speak to them softly, noticing the longing looks they both send to nancy and mike respectively. you comment on love as if you have experienced it, mentioning that the world is too long, that immortality is this thing that is much easier to spend with those you care about.
when you say this, he can’t help but look at you.
he’s surprised to find your eyes already on him.
he takes you to his orchard last. he watches you walk amongst the trees, your dress long since stained with ash and soot. you’re grinning as you twirl amongst the trees, and when you turn back to him— eddie can’t help but kneel at your feet.
“stay,” eddie begged, his voice soft and less boisterous then he thinks it has ever been in the eternity he feels he has lived. “stay here, with me, with everyone you have met today.”
“my mother would never let me.” you admit, voice soft as you curl your palm against his cheek. eddie makes no move to stand- not with you looking upon him as you are. “she would rip me away from here, away from you and them.”
“please.” eddie begged once more, chocolate brown eyes glistening with unshed tears. “you are not happy up there, you know this as much as i.”
you’re silent as you brush your thumb against the swell of his cheekbone, and you turn- casting a glance to one of the larger trees in the orchard. it is a tree eddie knows, just as much as he knows the story of you and him.
it is engrained his soul, so tightly bound to his very being that eddie knows what he must do.
the pomegranate is heavy in his hand when he offers it to you, and you take the fruit as your eyes search for something in his own. he says nothing, even when you pull a small knife from a pocket in your dress. he says nothing, even when you carve the fruit as if it something you have done before.
somewhere inside of eddie, he knows you have.
“i don’t want to forcefully bind you to me,” eddie said as he pressed his lips to your forehead. he ignores the way the juice of the pomegranate stains your fingers as you clench the halved fruit in your palms. he tries to ignore the fire in your gaze when you pull back to look at him. “i don’t want you to be scared of me.”
“there are plenty of things i am scared of,” you say, and eddie practically feels his heart lurch in his chest. you continue though, words soft and gentle- as if you are coaxing him. “i do not believe i could ever be scared of you.”
“whatever you wish, i will follow suit.” eddie promised, his hand extending to curl against your cheek. his thumb rubbed softly against the swell of your cheekbone, other fingers fluttering against your skin. “whatever it is that you wish, my goddess divine.”
eddie watched as you swallowed six seeds whole.
when he gathers you in his arms to kiss you, your lips taste like pomegranates and like his salvation.
PPPPFTFTFTFFFFTTTTTFTFTFTFTFTT
WH-WHAT???? Insanity, absolute insanity what your writing does to me.
All my favorite things, every favorite part of greek mythology you've put in here and the way you brought in the other characters is just...magnificent. It's so gaaaahhh I don't even have the words for it, english doesn't do it justice.
And how can you just write these things down and not expect to kill me right on sight. "When he gathers you in his arms to kiss you, your lips taste like pomegranates and like his salvation." pppfftfffftttftt EXCUSE MEEEE,,, You just plopped this onto the internet and expected me not to melt into my couch (sure im sitting right in front of the fire with the heated blanket in the highest setting but THATS NOT THE POINT)
The point is, this is so gorgeous and delicious and it's better than when my really hot English teacher would read the parts of the Odyssey about Circe to the class and she had the best voice
a fawn sprawled across your lap, you with a bottle of milk in one of your hands. the other is curled along the fawn’s back, idly tapping along the fawn’s spots. AND I'm just supposed to not care that while he's the god of death she's feeding baby deer left and right, cultivating LIFE
BUT SHE LEAVES IT FOR HIM
Good god my dreams are gonna be bonkers tonight, You mastermind
@babyrunsforfanfic AAAYYYY WAIT NO I FORGOT TO TALK ABOUT THE SMELLS
I love smells, I love candles, I love people smells, like (when im cashiering) and I try guessing their perfume, I can usually place it but sometimes I end up with "You smell like that candle I got from Moulin Rouge on broadway that's supposed to smell like 'carnal desire'"
So Eddie smelling like darkness and death, while she smells like life is just ahhhh so perfect
AH I WAS WAITING TO SEE WHAT YOUR FEELINGS WERE ON THIS OH MY GOODNESS~
“… taste like pomegranates and like his salvation.” has to be one of my favorite lines i’ve written in the entire time i have written on this funny little app, and i’m SO glad someone else adored it oh my,,,
also EEE on bringing the other characters in, i needed to tie them into also being primarily in the underworld— and if i spent way too long analyzing who would be who, who’s to say…
AND THE SMELLS, death and life and then the deer and the dead grass and flowers and the scents and AH.
i know this is my own writing but i am so eternally grateful that you enjoyed this little piece of prose della, thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading it, for being my first moot, and for being apart of my 200 little chickens on here

um thank you for the 200??? what the actual fuck i’m so incredibly speechless you guys, just… thank you from the bottom of my heart. <3
in celebration of that, there will be a new fic today- i’ve been super busy at my big girl job as i call it that writing has been shoved to the back burner recently but i’m excited about what i’m gonna post today <3
There are as many forms of love as there are moments in time 🪷- Character pairing, tell me somethings about yourself and pick a fandom and gender preference and I’ll ship you with someone <3
•
hi hehe, i really wanted to ask you to do this sooo…
i was a prep in hs y’all i am so sorry… i danced (specifically ballet), ice-skated, and did horseback riding lmao. now, i still dance but more for pleasure than for competitions, and i also almost always have my nose in a romance novel. i love dogs, tea with milk and honey, and i’m almost always writing something (as you know hehe).
stranger things pretty please bc i wanna stay on brand <3 don’t necessarily have a gender preference, i’m demi so i tend to just like who i like!
kiss kiss kiss! thank you if you end up answering this <3
- angel 🧸
Of course I’m gonna answer, how busy do you think I am?
Don’t answer that, the answer is always never too busy for you <3
I think Robin, slowly collecting the preps and turning them to the geek side.
She loves that you dance, she loves how comfortable you feel in your body and around her. And she definitely plays piano, and she’s good at it. So once you have your way too small apartment together she helps you move all the furniture out of the way and she’ll play something sweet for you and just watch and adore.
I also have the firm belief that she is a horse girl that never got to realize her full potential. You take her to the farm one day and she doesn’t know what to do with herself. She helps you take care of everything that needs to get done and her favorite part is giving the ponies carrots and sugar cubes. She loves it but shes also terrified when they do that flappy thing with their lips. “Babe, it’s chasing me, it’s chasing me.” “Rob, it’s in its stall, you’re fine. Stop teasing it.” “I’m not it’s- Ah! Take it, take it!”
She loves making tea for you, like loves it loves it, snd she loves bringing home new types and flavors for you both to try. (And while she’s at the store she picks up books for you purely based on the covers)
And if you get a dog together it’d be one of those really cute little ones, like a papillon and she’d think it’s so cute and tell everyone Papillon means butterfly in French because she likes to brag about you and her puppy 💖💖💖

you watched steve with wide eyes as he sat near you, his legs spread slightly so he could rest his arms on his knees. you crinkled your water bottle between your fingers, eyebrows pinched as you waited for steve to speak.
“i…” steve shook his head, chuckling as he quickly cleared his throat. “fuck, baby.”
“hm?” you wet the corner of your lips with a small swipe of your tongue, looking up at steve through your eyelashes. “what?”
“i think you’re going to fucking ruin me.”
steve’s admission caused you to balk, your eyes wide as you stared up at the man who had now stood. he paced in front of you, running his hands through his hair as he huffed. after a moment he turned and looked toward you, and you swallowed as you watched him look at you.
he looked at you like you were something sacred. like anything you would do, the good or the bad, if it hurt him- he’d forgive you in an instant. like he would give you the moon, the stars, the whole universe on a silver platter if he was able.
as if he would strive to be able.
“i don’t… i don’t understand.” you admitted, voice soft and eyes wide as you stared up at the man. “i thought we were happy?”
“are you my girlfriend, baby?” steve asked softly, and you slowly shook your head ‘no’. it wasn’t a lie or even anything close to a lie, you weren’t. when you first started seeing steve, it had been right after nancy left for emerson… and he made the decision to keep you both unexclusive and with no label. “see, that right there is why you’re going to ruin me.”
“you told me you didn’t… you didn’t want us to put a label on it.” you murmured, head slightly cocked. “you didn’t want me to be your girlfriend, in case nancy came back.”
“i know what i said then.” steve sighed, running a hand through his hair.
“you’ve been out with other girls.” you murmured again, brow still pinched. “you’ve-”
“i haven’t been out with another girl in about five months.” steve admitted, shoving his hands deep into the pockets of his jeans.
you froze, eyes wide as you blinked up at the man in front of you.
“what?”
“five months,” steve took a step closer to you, and he bent so he was crouched down in front of you. “i’ve been yours for five months.”
“five months.” you parroted, swallowing slowly as saliva pooled in your mouth. “five?”
“hm.” steve hummed, and he leaned forward to drag his knuckles along the swell of your cheek. “i have been yours for a while i think, baby.”
you didn’t say anything, your eyes just wide as you watched the man in front of you. he’d been yours, exclusively yours, for five months? you swallowed again, holding back from pressing your cheek into steve’s fingers.
“i think i want you to ruin me, pretty thing.” steve hummed, his voice soft- an almost coaxing tone as he leaned forward. his breath ghosted against your lips, and you watched as his tongue flicked out to wet them. “i think you’re going to ruin me, and that doesn’t scare me.”
“no?” your voice is weak, as you allow yourself to lean into steve’s hand. it curls around your cheek, thumb swooping circles along the skin of your cheekbone. he hums, a low rumble of a noise that caused you to lift your eyes back to his.
“no.” steve leaned forward, nudging his nose against your own. “i sort of like it.”
“like what?” you barely breath, and steve let out a soft chuckle, before he connected his lips to yours.
it’s a soft kiss, coaxing maybe- how his tongue runs along the seam of your lips until you relax into the kiss. his hands guide you, pushing and turning your chin higher so you form perfectly to him. you twist your fingers of one hand into the hair at the nape of his neck, the other in the collar of his shirt.
(later, you know he’ll complain about you ruining all the necklines of his shirts. even if you both know that he’s not actually upset, the farthest thing from it- really.)
steve pulled back from the kiss, and ran his palm open fingered against the back of your head. you bask in the glow of his half-lidded eyes, the way the look makes you feel above all else.
like something inescapable.
steve hums for a moment longer, rubbing his knuckles against your warm cheeks, before he speaks again.
“i like the unknowing of it all, sweetheart.”
steve gathers you into his arms, and kisses you again.
I just love when a fanfic is so very soft that I have to stop reading every three rows and walk around my room for a bit with a hand on my heart while whispering "oh my god they glanced at eachother", because I get too overwhelmed with love and sweetness.
You are allowed to like your own writing. You wrote it, it's tailored to yourself, you should enjoy it. You took plain words and put them in a beautiful order to create an awesome story. Beat that imposter syndrome and be proud.
Both of them are way too scared of moving too fast and their feelings are too big but it all works out <3<3<3 I hope you enjoy

Steve and Robin were in his basement, listening to music and talking. They talked about how pointless they think going back to work is, since no one's left in Hawkins and whoever is, probably definitely has bigger things to worry about than movie rentals and Red Vines. A meaty, vine-y, goopy, evil monster just sliced a giant "X" right through their town with his dying breath and they expect two teenagers to find it within themselves to get up every morning just to wait for no one to come in.
"I mean, at least we can watch a movie." Robin tried to look on the bright side.
"Only when Keith's not there." Steve, being such a Debbie-Downer.
"M-mm," Robin hummed.
"M-mm? What d'you mean 'M-mm'"
"M-mmmm, we don't have to worry about Keith because he's staying with his family in the city til his house gets put back together."
"How do you know?" He looked at her, upside down with her legs thrown over the back of the floral loveseat; it was a wedding gift to his parents from his great-grandmother; from his spot on the floor with his back to the couch.
"You have your Harrington pretty boy charm, I have my Buckley band geek charm. I have my ways," she wiggled her fingers.
Steve turned back around and looked at the clock. 2:37, the green flashing colon taunting him of every second inching closer to y/n's arrival.
"What's wrong?" Robin asked when she noticed his silence. When he didn't answer she flipped herself over so her feet were back on the ground, "Steve!"
"Yeah?" He looked up at her and she patted the spot on the couch next to her so he sat down with her.
"What's wrong? You've been a wreck since I got here."
He sighed, knowing there was no way around her and why fight it if she was just going to get it out of him. "I want to ask y/n to be my girlfriend."
"That's great! You're so perfect together. What are you worried about?" She did not expect the dripping faucet of worry would turn into such a geyser.
"That I'm moving too fast. That I'm falling too hard and what if we want different things? I feel like, now, I'm growing up and whatever, and it sounds so stupid to say, but I don't want to waste my time anymore. Especially because of what's happened, y'know, like when you almost die ten times in less than a year, you start appreciating shit more. And I am so very very over Nancy but I'm also worried that I could still have issues from that, like I know I was a real shitty boyfriend-slash-person, but I don't think I was shitty enough to be cheated on. I loved her, man, I really trusted her. So I feel like I've been throwing myself into these flings with no commitment on either end so that won't happen again." Robin just nodded and waited for him to finish before she offered any advice. She knows he just has to vent sometimes when he gets like this. "And I don't think y/n would ever do that but I didn't think Nancy would either but hey! Look how that worked out."
"You know what I'm gonna tell you?" Robin took his hand that was resting on his leg.
"I know what you're gonna tell me." He sighed again and looked at her.
"That's right, talk to her. Tell her how you feel. Remember that day you left volunteering early to bring Dustin over to Eddie's like a real divorced parent drop off? Before your date."
"Yes, and it was not a divorced parent drop off."
"Yes, it was, I would know. And good, you remember. Do you know what we talked about?"
"Donations and how awful living in Hawkins is?"
"Well yeah a little, but no! Most of it was about you. And yeah, maybe she did say she was only asking to make sure you weren't gonna take her to the woods and murder her, but that was only a little bit and I would have totally done the same thing if I was going to someone’s house for a very first date. But it was definitely because she really really likes you. Like when me and Dustin introduced ourselves, then she had to go bring that sweetest little angel back, you must have done something because she was coming back and you threw something over your shoulder and she literally had to stop and catch her breath."
"You're making that up," he brushed her off.
"Steve, I swear. My hand to God, I know what I saw. You wanna get that Russian truth serum."
"No, God no! Never again." He nudged her with his shoulder.
"So she definitely feels the same, if not more. Is there anything else bothering you?"
"Ugh, yeah, of course there is. You know this."
"I do, that's why I asked. What is it?"
"So let's say, it does work out." She nodded along with him. "So we're together and y'know things...progress."
"Yeah, I know."
"And then I got these huge scars." He lifted his shirt to show the bites from the demobats. They littered his waist but were healing well, or as well as a demon bite can heal. "And let's say we do get that far. Of course she's going to ask, or if she doesn't she's gonna want to. How do I explain I got dragged through a portal, created by some giant monster, by some freaky vines. Then once I was through that portal I was mauled by giant monster bats, also created by said giant monster. And while I was trying to kill that monster, those fuckin' vines came back and tried to squeeze the life out of me, and you, and my ex-girlfriend. Without sounding absolutely deranged?" Somewhere in his monologue he ended up laying on the floor.
"I mean have El flip a car or something, it worked for me."
"You're so funny, this is serious Robin!"
"I know, I'm sorry. But I do know that if I've learned anything at all about y/n in the last week it's that she's never gonna force you into anything. And that she wants you to talk to her about anything, but only if you're ready. And with all this stuff, cross that bridge when you get to it. But it's important that you get to it because if you don't eventually tell her, I will."
"So let's start with the girlfriend bridge. What do I say?"
"You're asking me? Wow, you really have lost your touch King Steve."
"And you keep yelling at me about self depreciation?"
"I just mean, I'm a lesbian that has never dated anyone ever and only now have I just barely worked up the nerve to even talk to Vickie."
"Yeah, but you're still a girl. You know what girls like. Use your imagination."
"I don't know. Tell me what you like about her and I'll think of something."
"Um, ok. She's really smart," Robin just looked at him like she was back in one Click's lectures, though she was proud of him for starting with y/n's intelligence. "Like Dustin will say some weird nerdy shit and she'll actually know what he's talking about. She's really nice too, but not like nice, like more than nice. (Kind?) Yeah, that's it. She just is so caring about everyone. And she's really cute, everything about her is, her face, her eyes, her hair, her clothes."
"I have honestly never seen you this excited about a girl since we watched Fast Times together, and we were high so this is like a whole new level for you, Harrington. So keep going."
"She's gorgeous too. And also when she stayed over we made a pillow fort and she played with my hair, and you know how protective I am of my hair."
"I know. It's your best feature."
"It's my best feature. But it was absolutely heaven. And now I'm worried about ever getting high with her because you know how I get. (Yes, very cuddly.) So cuddly." he sighed.
"Like a little puppy." Robin did her best puppy eyes and ruffled his hair. "Just wants scratchies and to be loved."
"She's adorable with kids, like not just Dustin and the rest of them. But Eloise and literally every other kid I've seen her with. Like you were off somewhere, probably with Vickie, and this little kid comes over and he's like five and he's got his little spiderman lunch box and he’s lost and she just talks to him and helps him find his mom. Then not only that! but the mom had a baby. Then y/n's playing with the baby and I'm just watching like a creep so I go over and by the time I get there she's holding her and I thought ‘I'm gonna drop dead right on this floor.’" Robin was having the time of her life watching her best friend fall so head over heels. "And I think what I like the best, besides all of her, is I'm just Steve to her. I'm not ‘King Steve,’ some washed up jock at a dead end job, not ‘Steve Harrington’ just Steve." Creek, Steve's head shot up as he propped himself up on his elbows, the sound of the third stair down announced y/n’s less than sneaky arrival.
"Hi," She breathed out with a wave and finished her way down the stairs before coming to sit next to Robin. All the while Steve closely watched from his spot on the floor.
Robin smacked her hands on her thighs before standing up. "I'm gonna go get some water, you guys want anything?"
Steve shook his head. "Water's fine," y/n answered.
She shifted on the couch, hoping Steve would get the message to sit with her. When she started looking through her bag he finally sat next to her. "How-" he started to say but the sound barely left his throat. "How much...of that did you hear?" her back was still to him as she was rooting through her bag. She turned to face him once she finally pulled out a purple envelope.
"Um, right after ‘Dustin's weird nerdy shit’ and um, I'm sorry, I know I shouldn't have. Just, the things you were saying were so nice and adorable and I didn't want to interrupt. And uh, this is for you," she handed him the envelope with "Steve" written in neat cursive with little flowers scattered around. "Not that it's really important now since I already kind of know what you want to ask but I still want you to read it." He went to open it when she put her hand over his. "Not now though, later."
He nodded. "Do I still have to ask even though you know what I've been dealing with since yesterday?"
"Just a little" she held up her pinched fingers.
"Ugh fine, but only since you asked." He set the envelope down behind him.
"Thank you," y/n smiled as he took her hands.
"Will you, y/n l/n-"
"Wait!" his face washed over in shock "I changed my mind, I want you to read it before you ask. I'm gonna say yes but I want you to read it first."
She's gonna say yes! He smiled and took one of his hands back to cup her face.
"I'm still gonna ask." He led her in for a kiss.
"I know," their faces so close that their lips still brushed as she spoke with a smile. "I just wanna be sure."
"Can I read it now?"
"If you want. But I don't want to be here for it." She stood up to go find Robin. "It's not too long, so read it, then come get me."
"Ok." He carefully opened the envelope as she went upstairs.
Thank God it wasn't all in cursive.
I know things are kind of fast between us, but I really like where this is headed and I just wanted to tell you how I feel. Except not tell you because I'd probably be a stuttering mess and there's no eraser. And if I’m coming on too strong just throw this in a blender, or a fire, or both, and we never have to speak of it again.
I really, really like you and every time I'm with you I just feel so overwhelmingly happy. Even at the thought of you like, my heart just gets so warm. I'm trying not to be too metaphorical but I don't know if I can. I wanted to put this in a letter so I could just tell you everything at once.
I've never felt like this with anyone before. The only way I can even try to describe it is like, you know how you see people in an airport and totally fall in love with them for five minutes and you imagine your whole entire life together but then they get on a flight to anywhere except to where you're going and they're gone forever and you never even got their name. Except this time you're real and you're right in front of me and I know your name and I want to know everything else about you. I really don't want to mess it up but I also want us both to be on the same page about what we want.
I know we're like just out of high school, hardly adults, but I want something serious. And by that I mean like long term, all that shit. I really need you to know now that this is not! a proposal! But that's kind of what I mean with long term. Kind of forever. . . I guess. So I wanted to do this so you can take this as a chance to run for the hills if that's not what you want.
I really like you and everything about you. Your high school "King Steve" whatever days, don't mean anything to me except that they made you who you are now. And that's what matters to me.
The way you are with your kids, how generous and kind, and brave and protective you are, that's what matters to me. I really really like you and like all week you've just been in every dream I've had and this is the cheesiest fuckin thing I've ever written in my whole entire life but I mean it. I can't help it, I'm a hopeless romantic.
And I want to be all romantic with you and shit. Like, I want to call you babe, and darling, and hun. And play with your hair and you play with mine and cuddle. (I don't know how to tell people I love them with words, so I just touch). I'm going to need to hold your hand all the time and just be touching you in some way always. I want you to meet my family then I'll have to yell at them "You are not allowed to smother Steve!" (they have big hearts). And if you want me to meet yours I will, and I can try to put my thoughts on how they treat you aside and let their first impressions speak for themselves. And I want to meet all your kids, and yes I will eternally be calling them your kids. And I don't want you all alone in that big house all by yourself. I know you're used to it, but I could never be and I don't want you to be either.
I know it's fast but I can't help myself.
-Y/n
Just as he finished, he heard the thumps of her running down the stairs. "I lied! I'm way too disgusted by everything I wrote! Don't read it! I have to burn it!"
He stayed on the couch and she stood in front of him with her hand out, "I already finished," his lips caught hers as he stood up. Which she didn't expect, evidenced by her quick "Hm?" Thinking he would be laughing at her silly words like ‘My heart is so warm’ and she wanted to die in a deeeep hole with how ridiculous she sounded. But if those ridiculous words got her kissed like this she'd start writing novels.
He took her hands that were resting on his waist, coincidentally right where his bite scars are. "Y/n l/n, will you...be...my girlfriend? I know it's soon but you make my heart warm too." He brought her hand up to his lips. She had the biggest smile, "Yeah, yeah I will. Will you...Steve Harrington...be my boyfriend?"
"Absolutely" His hands found their way to her waist and hers to his neck as their lips met. When she let out a "Mm!" in surprise when one hand felt the muscles of his shoulder, he definitely let it go to his head.
"Eddie's gonna be here soon, are you two lovebirds done yet?" Robin called down from the top of the stairs.
"Yes!" Steve yelled back with a smile. He took y/n's hand and led her back upstairs. They sat in the kitchen and talked about whatever they found interesting until.
"Ding dong, Harrington, I'm home!" Eddie sang.
"In here, Eddie!" Steve said.
Eddie gasped dramatically when he saw y/n, "There she is, I've been waiting all week!" She was grinning ear to ear. "I'm gonna do it."
"No! You can't!" She sounded worried but the amusement never left her face.
"Yes, you can!" Eddie ran up to her and she caught him by his thighs with his legs sticking straight out. "So, how've you been, sweetheart?" he looked down at her.
"Never better, how've you been, hun? Besides bigger," he got down with a hop. "And your boots adding like 50 pounds, Jesus Christ."
"Well, things were...quite terrible. As you know, but in the last week they've gotten exponentially better." He stayed smiling at her and she just pulled him in for another hug.
"I fuckin' missed you." She said over his shoulder. Her arms were around his neck and he held her up tightly by her waist.
"I fuckin' missed you too." She kicked her feet behind her and he set her back down.
"What have you been up to?" They went to sit on the couch in Steve's living room.
"So how did they meet exactly?" Steve asked as he watched them from the island.
"Eddie said Wayne used to put him in church camp so he'd stay out of trouble. It didn't work 'cause he'd always escape anyway, but then he started taking her with him. I think once they got to high school they just couldn't see each other as much and kind of lost touch."
Steve watched them, both talking so animatedly, from his spot at the kitchen counter.
"Your hair! And your tattoos! Oh my god!"
"What-Something wrong?" He looked at her worried. She noticed and took his hand.
"No! Just, you're like exactly the same but still so...grown up. I guess." He nodded. "And they're insanely cool. Mine feel kinda lame now."
"You have tattoos?"
"Mhmm, one on my leg," she put her free hand over her thigh then moved it to her left rib cage. "One here, and one here." On the other side of her ribs.
"What are they?"
"The one on my leg is flowers for me, my mom, my sister, my niece, and my grandma. So waterlily, cosmos, primrose, poppies, and lily of the valley. The one over here is cherries, and over here is violets. Because y'know," she winked.
"You listen to one Runaways album and you're a whole new woman."
She put her hands up and shrugged.
"I was a very easily persuaded 12 year old. One look at Joan Jett was all it took. How many do you have?"
"5? I think? I don't know, I forget but there's the spider, and this little guy over here," he pulled his collar down to show off his black widow and goblin. "And these, he held out his arms."
"The bats are really cool."
"Yeah, I used to think so too. Until a very unfortunate run in with some." He shook his head at the memory. "But that's another story for another time. Let's go see what they're up to."
***
Somehow over the course of the evening they ended up on the floor of Steve's basement. A half eaten box of pizza on the couch with the top part being used as an ashtray, and Fast Times playing in the background.
"I feel like I should let you all know now," She was on her back with her knees bent and one eye closed, pinching the ceiling lights. "I get very cuddly when I'm high, like a little puppy." She ended with a giggle.
"No way that's still your laugh dude." Eddie sat up to look at her.
"You got a problem with my la- my laugh Munson?" She took another drag through another giggle.
"I just didn't think you'd have such a low tolerance."
"No, nononono, I used to have such a tolerance that, like, I just stopped feeling it, so I haven't even looked at the stuff in 3 whole months." She giggled again.
Robin finally caught up with the conversation and gasped, "You're like a puppy too! Oh my God! You're just like Steve! Don't tell him I told you but he told me he reeeeaally likes your head scratchies, like reeeeaallllly likes them but shhhhh." Now both of them were on their stomachs, propping their heads up on their elbows and Robin was practically breathing in y/n's smoke.
Both of them fell into more fits of laughter. "Shhhh he already told me. And don't tell him I told you, but his hair is so soft and pretty and I love it."
"Jones, hun, he's right here." Eddie pointed out. She turned on her back again and when she saw Steve she just plopped back down on the carpet. Not that Steve was paying any attention, his eyes were glued to the screen. Y/n was rubbing her hands back and forth to feel the scratchiness and bumpiness of the carpet. Eddie noticed how her hands were looking for something to feel so he pushed Steve's shoulder so his head landed on y/n's stomach. He turned his face to her and she looked down at him.
"Hi," he said breathily. She smiled and pushed his hair away from his face.
"Hi," she turned back to the TV but kept running her fingers through his hair. He kept his eyes on her until her touch sent him to sleep.
"He's a little puppy." She looked from him to Robin with a puppy face.
"I need you to know that you're so adorable together I'm actually gonna vomit." Robin looked from her back to the TV where Phoebe Cates was standing in her red bikini. Y/n and Robin sat quietly watching the screen until it cut to the next scene. Eddie cleared his throat and they both refocused their attention on anything else.
"You two are the least subtle people to ever exist. If Steve was awake right now, he'd be the third." Right on cue Steve shifted so his nose was just touching y/n's underboob.
She laughed just enough to not wake him and found herself also close to drifting off. Eddie and Robin kept talking and y/n would jump in every now and then but she was too tired to add anything substantial. Eddie started getting very…passionate? about music while arguing with Robin and Steve started to stir.
He finally opened his eyes and was met with y/n's soft gaze. "Hi," she whispered, going back to playing with his hair.
"Hi," he whispered back. He turned so he was laying on her chest with his legs between hers.
"You comfortable?" she looked down and held the back of his head.
He nodded against her. "You're so soft." He nuzzled into her t-shirt.
"You're so high,"she giggled.
"They're so disgustingly adorable I think I'm actually going to throw up." Robin whispered to Eddie. Their highs were wearing off since they didn't smoke nearly as much as Steve and y/n.
"It's disgusting," He whispered back. "Hey, Steve, it's getting pretty late so me and Rob are gonna head out. You need a ride, y/n?"
Steve sat up and looked at her, "You can stay if you want?"
"Yeah, if you don't mind." She looked at Steve while still laying flat on her back. He nodded and she got up to hug Eddie goodbye.
"Bye Eddie, I'm very sorry I got so high so fast."
"It's alright, darlin', there's always next time." She kissed his cheek and moved on to Robin.
She hugged Robin by the waist so she wouldn't have to bend down to her. "You're so smart and cool and pretty," she stood back and pet Robin's head.
"Are you actually high right now or are you just using that as an excuse to pet people and say whatever you're thinking?" Robin looked down at her with a skeptical squint.
Y/n held her hands up and wiggled her fingers while walking backwards towards Steve who was now sitting on the couch. "Goodnight," Robin said as she started walking upstairs.
"Goodnight you crazy kids, no funny business!" Eddie pointed two fingers at his eyes then at them.
"Goodnight," they said together and y/n finally finished her backwards walk to Steve's lap. His forearm coming to rest across her thighs and his other hand holding her waist.
She kissed him gently before resting her forehead on his, "Can we sleep on an actual bed this time? My neck is still sore from the fort." She leaned her head on his shoulder.
"Mhmm, my room ok?" She shrugged and nodded. He kept the one arm around her back and brought the other under her knees then stood up. Her arms shot around his neck on instinct. She tightened her grip when he got to the stairs.
"No, not the stairs you're gonna fall." She tightened her legs around his arm to make herself smaller in the narrow stairway, also so she could hold on better. He got halfway up the stairs before asking her, "Why are your legs so strong?"
"The only thing I did good at in school was track. Besides that I did just good enough to stay off academic probation. But I think the problem was I just let people pay me to do their homework and shit that I let mine fall behind but I charged way more than I needed to so I'd say it was pretty worth it."
"Really?" By now they were just about to get to the second set of stairs.
"Yeah, by senior year I got quite a bit out of it anyway. I had very loyal customers, 'cause they had to maintain the ruse all four years, especially with essays which was my main gig, also dumb rich kids, very gullible in groups of 20 give or take. Are you gonna carry me all the way to your room?"
"Unless you don't want me to?"
"I'm alright with it, carry on. But anyway I have it all saved, and it has excellent interest. Never spent a cent."
"Well you're smarter than me," he cleared his throat so she didn't have the chance to tell him otherwise. "Last stop on the Harrington Express." He kicked the door open and was very grateful Dustin forced him to clean his room last night or else it would have been a wreck. She yelped when he dropped her on the bed.
He went looking through his drawers and she sat up, trying to manage her hair. A still silence fell over the room. Not awkward but there was a tension in the air. The thought of two young people, who just poured their hearts out to each other, alone, in his bedroom. One would expect something but neither of them did. Still, they worried about it.
Steve pulled out pajamas for himself then stood up and asked, "Do you want something to sleep in? So you don't have to wear jeans?"
"Yeah, sure." He found soft plaid pants and his old swim team shirt.
"These alright?" he held them out to her and she was more than a little shocked at how neatly folded they were.
"Yeah, perfect."
"I'll go change in the bathroom and you can change out here? And I can look for an extra tooth brush."
"Sure, thank you." She nodded shyly, suddenly hyper-aware of everything going on around her. She's in the bedroom of a guy she's known just over a week, about to get changed, into his clothes, to sleep in his bed. All of this right after she wrote him a letter basically saying everything except "I love you." She smacked her head but still changed into his clothes. She folded her own and put the pile on his desk chair.
"Uh, can I come out yet?"
"Uh-huh." He stepped out to find her sitting cross legged at the foot of his bed. She made grabby hands to him, "Come here, you're wallpaper creeps me the fuck out."
"What's wrong with my wallpaper?" He hates it too, if he's being honest. He can't wait to move out of his parents' house but since they haven't been home since February and he hasn't heard from them besides one call to ask if anything happened to the house in the earthquake, it doesn't seem like they have any plans to come home any time soon. So he's in no rush, since his only living expense is groceries.
"'S makin' me claustrophobic, and the fucks' it match the curtains for?" She stood up when he stood in front of her and leaned down for a kiss. She played with the hair at the back of his neck.
"Mmmmm, What side do you want?"
"I don't care, it's your bed."
"The wall side?"
"It doesn't matter what side I'm on, I'm still going to be practically on top of you."
"Good, somebody's gotta keep you warm." She crawled back over the bed to the edge of the covers and got under while Steve went over and turned off all the lights. There was still a dim glow through the curtains from the porch lights down stairs. The soft light perfectly illuminated their faces to each other. When Steve finally joined her, they both laid facing each other very still until she reached up and traced from his forehead, down and around the tip of his nose, over his eyebrow, down his cheekbone, circling his lips, down his chin, up his jaw before resting on his cheek.
"I'm still cold," She whispered.
"I know, your hands are freezing." He pulled her in so her head was resting on his chest, her leg over his. They laid there quietly for a few minutes before she hummed contently.
"Warm now."
"Good."

“found it!” eddie thumped the small plastic bag against his free hand, grinning as he walked out of his bedroom. “peaceful bliss just moments away.”
eddie internally chuckled at his own joke as he came into his living room, but froze at the sight in front of him. if he was being honest with himself, he already couldn’t believe that the chrissy cunningham, had asked him for drugs. i mean, it was hawkins- and by all accounts, chrissy was the perfect representation of what the town stood for.
but eddie could close his eyes and remember a small grinning girl from middle school who was nothing but kind; so really, who was he to judge?
“chrissy?” eddie kept his voice soft as he watched as chrissy’s eyes fluttered. “hey! wake up!” eddie snapped his fingers in front of chrissy’s face, a frown painted on his face. “i don’t like this-”
