Itās about the strange comfort of loss and alienation in americana.
A screenshot recolour, because no way our boys are white. Wirt is Black, Greg is Black and Ojibwe via his father. The themes of the story could resonate so much better told through black- and indigenous-american experiences š (Beatriceās family is Jewish for the same reasons, also bc Iām a black Jew and I said so.)
Hope this is okay to add but the eerie themes of OTGW are honestly so much more powerful from a black or native perspective, the heavyness of death lingering in the forest trees, cozy homes that don't feel very welcoming, ancestors gathering to celebrate despite the somber reality of being dead, Americas past is only comforting to people who were allowed to live in comfort back then, to everyone else it's inherently disturbing in a way that can't really be articulated or described to people who don't already see it that way
But OTGW captures it beautifully

[Image: tweet from Heather Lindsaychen (@oceana1009): āReframing motivation not as an act of will, but a thing that naturally occurs when I am rested, fed, and am taking things at my own slow pace has helped me a lotā]
Hey, here is a nice insight for those beating themselves up for their low motivation.
Remember that a good, healthy motivation comes when your needs are being met. Thatās not always possible in this world, but being kind to yourself for the impact of that always is!
All right, another mental health post for today! THIS THING. This thing is so important.
Iāve noticed recently that I have a mental flinch response every time I consider doing something. Even a really easy pleasant thing, like going for a short walk or getting a snack from the fridge, let alone things like washing the dishes or doing work. I feel an impulse to do the thing and then I immediately shut it down and tell myself āmaybe in five minutesā. This seems really bad! And I suspect itās partially caused by forcing myself to do things, so that now when I consider doing a thing my instinctive response is ānoā because I⦠donāt trust myself about it, if that makes any sense?
So anyway, instead of forcing myself to do things, Iāve been trying out just relaxing and doing what I want and following the random impulses, and it turns out I can 1) have fun, and 2) get decent amounts of work/etc done that way without feeling awful about it! While beating myself up about things pretty directly led to doing even fewer things in the long term, because my brain learned to associate ādoing thingsā with unpleasantness. Donāt make your brain do that, it sucks.
(I mean, maybe for some people it doesnāt suck or is worth it anyway, everyone is different and everyoneās situations are different and all that! But it looks like for me itās usually not. I should talk to my therapist about it.)
This is fantastic advice and deserves its own space on the blog. That mental flinch is entirely, painfully familiar to me, and I have had the same results when I just let myself follow my inclinations.
I also want to acknowledge that we canāt always just do whatever we want willy-nilly. But noticing mental flinches (I had characterized them as a mental wall, previously)āand giving thought to what is motivating themācan lead to really useful insights.
In a similar vein is the way we build up small tasks that weāve been putting off. I donāt know about you, maybe-a-lizard, but I get the same mental flinches with a task thatās been sitting on my to-do list for too long. Iāve realized Iām getting ānopeā signals and that if I take a moment to recognize whatever is causing those (guilt, uncertainty about the first step, bad feelings etc.), I can break the current negative associations and move forward into a more constructive place.
I think connecting these things (the mechanics of motivation, mental flinches, and self-reflection) is really powerful and can help a lot when your āget up and goā is more of a āget up and no.ā
Just some additional thoughts :)

While many fat Black women have been pushed towards the back, there have also been many who have been trailblazers as solo acts.
This was a great read
Your blog was hacked: what to do?
If you see weird pics of ladies with dubious links posted on your blog out of the blue, hereās a step by step way of stopping this and preventing it from happening again that I think might work.
Important : this only works if you can still access your blog!
Changing your password is important, but it wonāt do you any good if your hacker still has an opened session on your blog and can still access it. So the first thing you wanna do is close your hackerās session.
For that you need to go in your blogās settings:
On the new page opened, scroll all the way down. There, you can see something called āActive Sessionsā. The first and oldest one (ācurrent sessionā in green) should be yours, the new one should be the hackerās session. To close your hackerās session, click the gray X next to it.
Now that their session is closed, they canāt access your blog anymore unless they enter the password again.
So donāt lose time, go all the way back up and change your password immediately. Make also sure your hacker didnāt change your email address.
Now you should be safe from your hacker. But it wonāt prevent you from getting hacked again.
If you really want to be safe from hackers, you should turn on the āTwo-factor authentificationā option (on the same page).
It requires you to enter your phone number, which is a bummer. But if itās turned on, everytime you wanna log on (so not if your session is already opened, but only if you log off and try to log on again), it will send a code on your phone that youāll have to enter (in addition to having a password).
That way if someone tries to hack you again, even if they get your password right, they wonāt be able to enter your blog without having that code.
There it is. I hope it will help some of you, since I see more and more people noticing blogs being hacked
with light about the massive wave of bot-hacking iām seeing, please do this and keep your blog and all of your personal information secure!
Relevant again in wake of the new round of āRay-Ban saleā hacks.

this is in france, but hopefully thisāll slowly mean fewer creepy abusive parents making their kids childhoods into Content:tm:.Ā
another important thing mentioned in this article:
This is an essential part of emerging tech rights, esp for young influencers and media users. Kate Eichhorn recently wrote a fantastic book abt this called The End of Forgetting: Growing Up with Social MediaĀ that explores the ways permanent records of childhoodĀ ā particularly representations the children themselves may not be in control of, such as the children of mommy-bloggers or influencers used for cloutĀ ā can have lasting influences on how we mature in a digital society
Most people over 20 or so have grown up on an internet with natural growth cycles; certain forums and MMORPGs die over time, and our Yahoo sites and Club Penguin accounts die with them. But the centralization of social media platforms, data monopolies compiling detailed profiles on both creators and their audiences, and the incentivizing industry of younger and younger influencers (this article mentions a 6 year old girl making $18M), will make it harder for younger generations to control their digital selves. Hopefully other countries will also realize that virtual autonomy is an important civil right, and a necessary protection for our children
Come on baby! More child labour laws! Letās get these kids some rights!

twitter is incredible
oh man:
she didnāt lose her internship becauseĀ āher friendsā used a hashtag, she lost it because a bunch of 4chan fuckers found out sheās trans and decided to doxx her and harass her employer about the ~image~ she was sending. like this wasnāt her public face account, she wasnāt spouting racist garbage, she mistook someone in her mentions for one of the randos she gets regularly harassed by (because, yknow, if someone tweetsĀ ālanguageā at you on twitter, 99.9% of the time theyāre not actually concerned for you) and transphobes used the opportunity to fuck up her life. itās great that hickam is behind her on this but a lot of people are sharing this and laughing at how hilarious it is thatĀ āa furry got fired for swearingā, which is the smokescreen being used to cover how this was doxxing a trans woman to ruin her potential career
