good morning God has let me live another day and I’m about to make it everybody’s problem
It’s a lovely morning in Teufort, and you are a horrible mercenary.
Pardonnez-vous, I am a wonderful mercenary, who simply does terrible things for fun.
If I got to spy check over my weekend break, I don' think spy will have a good weekend I'll tell ya that much.
Oh? How so?
Do you remember creepin' up on me on my farm fer a surprise while I was with mayfly? That ain't happenin' 'gain. You want to visit??? Give a man a warnin'
I choose to interpret this as a warning being optional.
Like hell its optional!
Not to prove that it’s optional or anything, but you have three guesses as to who’s in your house.
I don need three guess cause I know all I got to use is one. M comin downstairs to greet ya right now.
Bold of you to assume I’m still downstairs.
Then it is my job to go check fer ya now ain't it? {|8) a promise is a promise! A bet is a bet! An do ya know I keep to both of those!
Technically, it’s not your job, it simply comes with your job. Additionally, we’re both off hours.
Yer right it's not my job n we are off hours. Though I said I would n I don do empty threats. Ya know this.
I do. Though you really can’t blame me for trying.
If I got to spy check over my weekend break, I don' think spy will have a good weekend I'll tell ya that much.

It doesn’t take Spy very long to notice his rival’s exhaustion, both physically and emotionally. And, for the sake of having an evenly matched rival (and, clearly, nothing else,) he decides to check on him. He’s concerned about Engineer and it shows, even if he tries his best to hide it behind his snarky facade. He straightens his tie and stands up the slightest bit straighter, knocking on the door to Engineer’s workshop, aware that breaking in wouldn’t be welcome for this -bacstabbing-casanova
He could hear from the other side of the door a small yelp, and someone falling over, followed by scrambling. “H- Come in?” @bacstabbing-casanova
He opens the door and steps inside, trying very hard to keep the concern out of his voice. It’s not as if he’d stood outside the door cloaked for a few minutes before working up the courage to knock or anything, that’d be ridiculous and totally unbefitting of a spy.
“ I hope I’m not disturbing you, Labourer. ”
“Oh, uh...Guess not.” He rubbed his eyes. There’s still some bubble wrap left from Spy’s last visit
“ Good. ”
Ah.. He’ll have to clean that up the next time Engineer goes out. .. Maybe just to move out of the way somewhere, because he didn’t seem too keen on Spy touching his things last time he tried.
“ I wanted to see what you were up to. “
Engineer certainly looks tired, to say the least. And while it would usually be quite the treat to see his eyes, his current state, physical and mental, takes priority over any comment he would usually have about that.
“... It ain’t much.” He sighed, slumping back into his chair, throwing a greasy towel over his worktable
“ May I see it? “
He strides closer, being polite for once, which is incredibly odd, for what Engineer knows of his rival. Usually there’d be a lot more lockpicking and cloaked shenanigans, so this visit is an outlier in and of itself.
“I think it’s classified, if you haven’t already seen it... You haven’t been snoopin’ around in here?”
“ Classified has never stopped me before. ”
He straightens out the lapels of his jacket, a little proud of himself for being so good at what he does.
“ Et non. I haven’t, seeing as my usual investigations seemed to be irritating you far more than intended. ”
“I’ve just been... I donno, I’m scared of you findin’ somethin’.” He stared at at the ceiling, much paler than usual.
“ I can stop, if you’d like. ”
Spy gives Engineer a good once-over, before deciding he clearly has to make this up to him, somehow. How long had it taken for him to notice the state of his rival?
“ .. I’d intended to be a.. Mild inconvenience at worst. Not a source of off-field paranoia. ”
“It ain’t your fault how I am. I’ve been at this a long time, they’ll terminate my contract if someone found out this stuff. Terminatin’ my contract means they’ll terminate Pyro, too, and I don’t mean just losin’ my job.”
“ Rest assured, even if I did find something, I’d never tell a soul. ”
Oh, wait, merde, was that a promise?
“ Despite my field-related bias against your Pyro, I wouldn’t want serious harm to befall them. Nor you, for that matter. ”
He chuckled weakly “Careful Slick, somebody might think y’all care...”
“ Every once in a while, I think I’m allowed to. “
“... What... What am I to you?” He asked softly “.... It’s kind of a weird question, but I’ve been thinkin’ a lot about some things.”
“ Your my rival. “
He pauses for a moment before continuing, loosely clasping his hands behind his back so he can idly drum his fingers against his wrist
“ Though.. I suppose that’s a bit of an understatement, because you’re my favorite rival, and that’s an achievement in and of itself. “
“... So you wouldn’t miss me much if I died, huh?”
“ Of course I’d miss you if you died. “
He replies without even a hint of irony, looking at Engineer properly with his response.
“ You’ve misinterpreted what I mean by rival of you think I wouldn’t. “
“I d guess it just sounds like to you I’m only a toy of sorts. Like if I die you’d forget eventually and be okay.”
“ No, that’s not true at all. “
He looks a little concerned now, sighing softly as he gears down a notch, really starting to comprehend that oh shit, is this how he really comes off? And, of course, his façade is all in the name of his profession and history, but.. He hadn’t meant for his rival to believe it.
“ On the contraire, actually. I’d quite miss you. “
He rubbed his face again, needing to do something with his hands so he didn’t feel like he was falling apart “That’s reassurin’ I guess... Makes things more complicated, though.” He should be pleased at the news, at relief from something that normally concerned him greatly, but now it just seemed to make his fear and anxiety worse.
“ .. Makes what more complimented? ”
He knows that now really isn’t a good time to pry, but he has to know what he’s working with in order to help, and help seems like something Engineer really needs right about how.
“.... My uh, my new contract. The classified one.”
“ Is it dangerous? “
“A bit, yeah.” He chuckled nervously, almost delirious from sleep deprivation
“ Then you’ll have to be well prepared and rested for it, non? “
He suggests, already thinking of ways he could arrange for his old contacts to keep an eye on him, to make sure nothing bad happens to him.
