15. What’s your favorite AU that you’ve written?

I LOVE soulmate AUs! Almost all styles of soulmate AUs (especially writing, timers or black&white to color) I don’t write them a lot but I love whenever I see them <3

23. What’s a trope, AU, or concept you’ve never written, but would like to?

I mentioned this in another answer but I’d love to do a cowboy AU. I just think they’re so cool and I’d love to try it. I’ve also never done arranged marriages or mafia (in a full length story, I did them in Inkober but I don’t think it counts), so I’d be down to do them as well.

1. What fic of yours would you recommend to someone who had never read any of your work? (In other words, what do you think is the best introduction to your fics?)

I still think Bottles is my best work lol, I love that story, I love the premise, and I'm so happy with how it turned out. It's someone I don't write for anymore, but if you're looking for current stuff, My Phone Broke is getting up there with all-time favorites.

8. What song would make a great fic (to either write or read)?

I have a whole LIST, so here's a few (if you want to send a song and a person, I'll add it to my list)

12. Are there any tropes you used to dislike but have grown on you?

I didn't like cowboy AUs for the longest time, but I'm starting to love it (and I might do one of my own soon)

I still hate college AUs, and I can't read any off-campus stuff because of it lol

38. Did any of your fics get surprisingly popular (whatever that means to you)? Which ones? Why do you think they were so successful?

Cingy Antonelli as a whole! That blew up for no reason, it was crazy. Hell, the master list got more likes than some of my stories lol I think timing just coincided with his rise to F1 (I started it during his F2 campaign) and more eyes on him meant more people looking him up.

40. Do you tend to reread fics or are you a one-and-done kind of person?

Oh, if I like a fic, guaranteed I will reread it (I'm definitely not rereading a fic on AO3 as I'm doing this). Sometimes it's on purpose (I love the story so much I go back for seconds) or I forgot I've read it, and do it again (this happens a lot because I'm still disassociating a bit)

46. Do you prefer writing on your phone or on a computer (or something else)? Do you think where you write affects the way you write?

I love to write on my iPad because I have a clicky keyboard. However, if I do, there are so many errors because my iPad doesn't have spell check or grammarly. Most of the time, I write or edit on my computer.

30. Have you ever written something that was out of your comfort zone? If so, what was it, and how did it affect your approach to writing fic thereafter?

I am always experimenting, but the most recent step out of my comfort zone was writing about Kyle Busch and Adam Petty. Ngl, they are coming together a lot faster than I thought they would. I also try to stick with canon/not deviating universes, but I've been working more on it, branching into more AU styles. Idk when/if I'll be ready to do a full cross yet, but a side quest I'm working on is getting me to that point (it's a Spencer Reid story, not sure if I'll post it here or not since I only do RPFs now).

36. Do you visualize what you read/write?

Ok... so I can't visualize things? Found out I have aphantasia or something like that, so I don't actually see what I am writing. I like to think of it as my computer running with the monitor off because I can tell the story just fine (and do all of the processes a computer would do) but I can't see it :)

I usually find the main story picture and act out a lot of the actions I write about lol. Like hand placements, eye movement, and a lot of movements in general, I have to act it out (that's also why I mostly write at night lol).

If it helps, I listen to a lot of music or watch mind-numbing shows like dance moms or DCC when I'm writing lol

49. What are you currently working on? Share a few lines if you’re up for it!

At this moment, I am split between six stories lol but I'm writing the meet-up moment for Bad Bad Birlfriend right now. Here's a lil bit of that:

“He was a bad boyfriend anyway.” You watched from the sidewalk as the two sped off to catch up with the rest of his friends... In a split second decision, you gestured for him to rev it... “You look like you could use a break. Do you wanna join the ride?”

Instead of giving you straight lines from everything I'm writing (because I don't actually know where I should start/stop), I'm gonna give you some of the random lines I have to remember what my plan was.

One of my favorites- NC boy flirts with west coast hottie lol

Second favorite- 10 things, 10 things 10 things 10 things, 10 things (I realize I look crazy for this but it's too the tune of 5 things)

Summary: “Let’s just say, I’m so fucking grateful for my ex.”

You’ve been running for so long, you’re not even sure where you were going at this point. You’d just walked in on your boyfriend, now ex-boyfriend, in the bed of your condo, which you solely owned, with your best friend. 

You finally stopped when you reached a little park with a fountain. It was one of the first places you stopped at when you moved to Indianapolis, when you were still exploring the area, and you’d always loved the greenery. 

You sat down on the ledge, and you thought back on everything. While running, you thought you would start crying, but honestly, you felt it coming for months now. The longing eyes you dismissed between them, the secret plans, the “oh, I’m just hanging with the boyd tonight” excuses, and your best friend, now ex-best friend, suddenly taking Mikey’s side on everything. It all made sense now.

“Hey,” Someone called your name as they approached you. Your eyes drifted from the falling water to see your first boyfriend, Pato, who also happened to be one of Mikey’s best friends, walking over to you. “What are you doing out here? I thought Mikey said you were away on a business trip.”

“The conference got canceled, and I came home to Mikey in bed with my best friend,” You responded through tight lips, and you watched as Pato’s eyes widened and his jaw dropped. “Yeah, that was my first reaction, too.”

“You’re joking,” He gasped.

“Wish I was,” You chuckled bitterly before picking at your nails, suddenly nervous he would take Mikey’s side. “I’ve got the pictures if you don’t believe me.”

“No, I believe you,” He immediately reassured, taking a seat in front of you and placing a hand on your shoulder. “It’s their loss. They just lost the best person in their lives.”

“Thanks, but that doesn’t really help the sting,” You replied, shrugging your shoulders before standing up again. “Thanks

“What if we get back at him?” Pato offered, following you up and grabbing your arm. You turned around to face him in confusion.

“We? What do you mean we get back at him?”

“You still have your ring camera at your condo, right?”

It only took a day of you not answering Mikey before he began berating you through messages, voicemails, dms, anything he could to reach you. It only took three days before he decided to become nuclear. He posted a screenshot of a long notes app confession.

“‘I just can’t stay silent about this,’” You read in disbelief, mocking his stupid voice, “‘I knew Y/n was unfaithful when I saw the messages a few months ago.’ Who does he think he is?” 

“Someone who can’t even spell ‘unfaithful’ right,” Pato said, rolling his eyes as you snorted a laugh. You’d taken to staying at his place after he trashed your condo like a toddler throwing a tantrum. “Truthfully, did anybody proofread this or not?”

“I think he’s just stupid on his own,” You chuckled, seeing the responses. “At least some of the fans are coming to my defense. Most are pointing out that he’s always been the flirty type, while I’m not. Ha, someone even said it’s a miracle I pulled him in the first place, ‘like Y/n could even pull someone else’. I mean, they’re not wrong, but that’s funny.”

“You could so ‘pull’ someone else!” Pato returned. “What if we stage it?”

“And feed the rumors more? I don’t think so.”

“I mean, you could also easily post the footage of Mikey getting down with your best friend.”

“Don’t say it like that,” You replied, cringing as you dropped your phone to the side. 

“Okay, fine. If you’re willing to hold off for a bit, we can wait before taking a trip to go see Yorktown or something,” he offered, moving your legs to sit on the couch. 

“What is in Yorktown?” 

“Not what is in Yorktown, but what Yorktown is in,” Pato trailed off only to be met by your confused gaze. “Virginia. It’s in Virginia.”

“And Virginia is…?”

“The only state where it’s legal to post revenge porn!”

“How the hell do you know that?”

“I lurk on Reddit a bit too much.”

That’s how you found yourself off the grid for the rest of the IndyCar season, which wasn’t too long anyway. In that time, you still lived with Pato. Mainly because it was too much of a hassle to go back to your condo, but also because Mikey continuously showed up unannounced. He couldn’t get in after you had the locks changed, but he would stand at the door and degrade you through the little camera. 

So, just before your little vacation over to Yorktown, you sold the condo. Why? 

Well, let’s just say, things picked up where they left off with Pato.

You’d met him back early in his Indy Lights days, but you both decided that with him going for an international championship in Formula 2 and Super Formula, it would never last. That never stopped the two of you from being casual friends, even if you had been together for about a year before the split. Then Mikey came along in 2024, and he wanted all of your attention. You saw that now. 

Maybe you had never been fully over your first love.

Living together for six-ish months reignited those feelings, but you didn’t want to jump into another relationship like that. In Yorktown, it was interesting, though.

The lines blurred between the little day tours turned to dinners for two. The moments alone to the one time when Pato gave you his jacket after a particularly long night out. Oh, and that fateful day when you were going to post the files, and couldn’t bring yourself to do it.

“Give it to me,” Pato said, holding out his hands for your laptop from the hotel bed. “I’ll do it for you.”

“I still feel like I’d be ruining his life,” You groaned, holding back the laptop.

“Listen to me,” he said, moving to sit closer to you and grabbing your hands. “DO you think Mikey thought this hard before he posted that you were the cheater? Probably not. I don’t think either of his two brain cells spent a second on that decision.”

“That’s mean,” You chuckled lightly.

“It’s true, though,” He shrugged as he moved the laptop between the two of you. “I’ll do it with you, how about that?” 

“Fuck it, let’s get it over with,” You sighed. He clicked the publish button. You watched it load.

File “thank u next” has been posted.

And you slammed the computer closed.

“So…ice cream?”

From that moment on, there was an unspoken, unconfirmed (and not opposed) relationship between you and Pato again. This time, though, you were built to last.

It was another six-ish months later before you made your paddock re-debut, you guess. The Indy 500 was probably not the best time to be back, but who cares? No one would stand in the way of your supporting your boyfriend.

This time, instead of the ugly shade of green from Mikey’s team, you wore black and orange. And instead of finding something with those colors, like Mikey would have made you do, Pato gifted you one of his team kits with his name on the back.

“So I don’t lose you,” He joked as he handed it to you.

“Won’t I blend in with the other fans?” You smirked, throwing it over your head regardless.

“With a face like that, never,” He flirted, leaning in to give you a quick kiss.

When you get to the track, to say it was filled with reporters would be an understatement. There were never this many in all of the years you attended with Mikey. You subconsciously tightened your hand around Pato’s as you both walked closer.

“I won’t let him say anything to you,” Pato whispered in your ear, and just as you were about to ask what he meant, you saw the familiar shaggy brown hair of Mikey.

“I thought he was fired,” You said through your teeth, trying your best to mask your emotions. “Thought having a public sex tape and public cheating scandal would make that a guarantee.”

“Well, JHR is desperate, you knew this,” Pato responded as he scanned you both in since he had both of the passes. You’d have to walk right through the chaos. You made it maybe 10 steps before the reporters opted to surround you and Pato.

“Y/n, can you say anything about…the situation?” The one directly in front of you asked, shoving a microphone in your face.

“Let’s just say,” You tailed off for a second, glancing between Mikey’s disgusted face, Pato’s encouraging one, and the reporter, before smirking and adding, “I’m so fucking grateful for my ex.”

Wake Up Call (Jesse Love X Reader)

Requested: Nah, had this idea during the Daytona 24 w/Connor, but my friend wanted more Jesse

POV: Second Person (You/your/They/them) (Kinda mostly from Connor's POV)

Summary: “Has anyone seen Jesse?” No one answered

First, qualifying was delayed. It was only a slight drizzle, but it didn’t take long to get heavier. Then, qualifying was canceled.

“Has anyone seen Jesse?” No one answered because, honestly, no one knew the answer. The last time anyone had seen Jesse was before qualifying was delayed in the first place. “Can someone just call him?”

“Hey, can someone give Jesse his phone back?” Connor ran up to the No. 2 team. “He asked me to hold it for quali, but since it’s canceled, thought I should give it back before my debrief.”

“Great, so he doesn’t have his phone either,” Danny sighed, dropping his head to his hand and taking a deep breath. “He’s probably in his trailer or something.”

“I’ll go look around and have him call you when I find him,” Connor said, taking the initiative by turning and walking towards the trailers.

Thankfully, Connor and Jesse had been sharing a trailer since last season, and by extension, you whenever you came to visit for the weekend. He knew this was one such weekend, and he hoped that he wouldn’t walk into anything weird in the trailer. Unfortunately, that’s happened more than once…

He loudly knocked on the door before punching in the code. Then, he loudly stomped in, making his presence known.

“Jesse, I swear you better be presentable or I’m telling your dad!” He shouted, being met with no response, other than a pause in typing from a computer. He actually looked in the trailer, and Jordan was sitting with her laptop charging in her lap, just staring at him. “Sorry, you had to endure that.”

“Jesse’s not here,” She said simply, “He hasn’t been in here since we did pre-quali content. I was just about to text him.”

“Well, I have his phone, so I don’t think that’ll work,” Connor chuckled, waving the phone around before turning back around to leave. “Wait, have you seen Y/n then?”

“Same time I last saw Jesse,” Jordan shrugged. “Their phone is still on the charger, too, said they’d come grab it after the green flag dropped.”

“Fan-tastic,” Connor muttered and left the trailer.

He walked between the trailers and team haulers, racking his brain to think of who else’s hauler he would hide in. Maybe after the session got canceled, he went to get food? No, Jesse always complained that the food at the track was overpriced and gross. He could’ve been convinced by you, though, Connor thought. 

He walked out of the infield and tried his best to sneak around the food stalls. There’s no way it could be that hard to find his best friend. 

After a good twenty minutes of sneaking around, he learned it’s actually really hard to find Jesse. And you, for that matter. How could two people blend in so well?

Maybe he went to the RCR merch hauler? No, he’d rather avoid people as much as possible if he had the choice. That’s it! Jesse had to be hiding where no one would think to look! Connor practically sprinted all the way back to the infield area on a quest to find a specific driver, and not the one he was actually looking for.

“Austin, where is your teammate?” He shouted as he ran over to Austin Hill, coming out of the RCR team hauler.

“Why would I know?” Austin dismissed and continued walking, but Connor followed closely behind. “Isn’t that something you would know?”

“Normally, yes, but he’s hiding,” Connor said quickly. “I have his phone, and his team needs him.”

“If he’s hiding, there’s probably a reason, and I’m not going to help,” Austin answered before turning off, leaving Connor standing at the entrance to pit road by himself.

“Buzzkill,” Connor groaned under his breath before looking around. He spotted his team at his pit stall, so he decided to just go to his debrief. “Hey guys, sorry I went on a goose chase for Jesse.”

“What do you mean?” Randall asked him, looking down from his spot on top of the box.

“I have Jesse’s phone, and I was trying to give it back to him, but after the session was canceled, he disappeared, apparently,” Connor explained for what felt like the 10th time that day. “His team also wanted to talk to him.”

“Jesse and Y/n have been up here for the last hour, hour and a half maybe,” Randall chuckled, pointing behind him.

~Earlier~

“I’m telling you, the rain isn’t going to let up,” You whispered, turning your head and leaning back against Jesse as you both stood under a canopy in pit lane. “If anything, it’s gotten worse since it started.”

“Yeah, you’re probably right,” He agreed, tightening his arms around your waist and resting his head against your shoulder.

“When am I not?” You teased and are immediately met with Jesse tightening one arm around you before tickling your sides. “Ah, stop it!”

“Take that back,” He threatened.

“You’re threatening me because you know I’m right!” You defended yourself before breaking away, only to run straight into the rain. “Golly, it’s cold!”

“No shit, Sherlock,” He chuckled, rolling his eyes as he pulled you against his chest again. “I think I left one of my hoodies at Connor’s stand when we were there earlier. We can make a run for it.”

“Qualifying’s canceled anyway, and the race might be delayed, so if you want to go dry off for a bit before the debrief, we can work with that,” Danny told Jesse, gesturing to you. “No funny business, but let’s say an hour-ish?”

“I can work with that,” Jesse smirked, grabbing your hand and dragging you through the rain, jumping under different canopies as you made your way to Connor’s stand. You made it there and saw Connor’s crew chief sitting on top of the box, so Jesse shouted up to him, “Hey Randall, is Connor back yet? He has my phone.”

“He’s not, but you can wait here for him,” Randall responded, gesturing for the two of you to climb up.

“After you,” Jesse offered.

“You just wanna see my ass,” You chuckled, but still climbed up ahead of him.

“Maybe I do,” He chuckled, causing you to kick one of your legs back to hit his shoulder. “Hey! This is abuse!”

“You started it!” You defended yourself, once again, running to sit on the bench at the back of the box.

“You are both such children,” Randall muttered.

“We keep you young, don’t we?” You joked with him as Jesse pouted in front of you. “What do you want?”

“Move.” Jesse didn’t wait for you to answer before he grabbed your ankles and dragged you to lay your back against the whole bench. You made a squeak as your head, conveniently, hit the hoodie Jesse was talking about earlier, as Jesse laid his whole body on top of you. “Better.”

“You comfy there?” You teased, running your fingers through the damp stands of his hair.

“Very,” He sighed, melting into your hold and almost immediately fell asleep.

“Is this okay?” You whispered towards Randall, who just looked back at you two with a smile.

“It’s fine,” He waved off. “I’ll wake you up when Connor shows up.”

“Perfect, thank you.” And with that, you fell asleep too.

“I hate them,” Connor complained as soon as he took in the sight of his two best friends sleeping on top of his pit box. “I actually hate them. You’re telling me, I’ve been running around, looking for them, and this whole time, they’ve been sleeping in my box?”

“Yeah, basically,” Randall shrugged.

“You know what, I’m gonna teach them a lesson,” Connor spoke to himself as he climbed down and grabbed a tire gun from the wall. He climbed back up and stood right next to both of your heads before turning it on. You peeked an eye open to look at him as you instinctively moved away from the noise.

“Ah, hi, Con,” You said through a yawn, throwing an arm over your eyes, “We’ve been waiting for you.”

“Yeah, well this is your wake up call,” He said quietly before shoving Jesse and shouting, “Get up!” 

“Damn, you have a horrible bedside manner,” Jesse commented from the ground before he pushed himself up to simply sit on the ground and lay his head on your stomach. “It’s too early for this.”

“It’s 3 in the afternoon,” Connor commented.

“I wouldn’t know that because you have my phone,” Jesse said back as he closed his eyes again. 

“Yeah, I learned that,” Connor started all sweet before switching up his tone, “After I went on a wild goose chase for you and neither of you had your phones!”

“In my defense, you killed my battery playing that Monopoly game,” You spoke up, briefly moving your arm to see both of them looking at you.

Hi I wanted to ask this question, I know it’s gonna be a little weird but would you be comfortable in writing fluff of a certain driver, but the problem is that he passed away. I know you were heasitant for the KB one so let me know if you are able to!

I was a lil hesitant ngl, but I got an idea, so we’re doing it! It’ll probably depend on the req if you send in another KB (or another passed away driver), just because they are … but that doesn’t mean I won’t try!

Your friend group had been planning an outing for months now. Everyone’s schedules were always overlapping, and it was hard to find a single day where everyone could do something. Welcome to adulting!

Then, alas, one day. One measly Wednesday at the end of June showed your opening. One of your friends had a wedding the night before and requested the day off. One of your friends got cut early. Two of your friends already have Wednesdays off. Considering all but one were available, the one friend then called out sick.

It was perfect!

Now, how you’d managed to get Connor to go bar hopping with your friend group is beyond you. Considering you were the only one of your friends still under 21, it made you the designated driver, and Connor being Connor didn’t want you to be the only sober person all night. That’d be boring for you. 

So you’d dressed the part and gone out with them. You all wore matching white tanks and jean shorts while Connor tried his best to coordinate with a white button-down and jeans.

The first bar was fun. You’d all met up at your apartment before heading out. It looked like a clown car with all seven of you packed in there, but it worked in the past. There was a live band when you got to the first bar, and while everyone was pregaming here, you and Connor cheered with your first waters of the night. 

You only stayed there an hour before heading to the first real bar of the night. It was an ice bar you’d all been looking at for a while that also had good food. You all suited up in the fur coats they provided and marched through. You’d all heard about the ski shots, and luckily, you’d made friends with the bartender as soon as you walked in. He was cool enough to make one of the shots alcohol free, so you could join in. Now, you have a perfect picture of all of you doing a ski shot.

After getting some real food and catching up before everyone eventually lost themselves to alcohol, you headed to the next bar. Your friends ordered rounds of shots, some you’d never even heard the names of. This time, you and Connor got about as frisky as you would the whole night, and instead of ordering water, you ordered Shirley Temples. You guys went crazy.

The fourth bar is when the night got fun. The dance floor opened up as the DJ was doing 2000s throwbacks, so you and Connor busied yourselves on the dance floor while your friends took turns getting drinks. 

You’re not sure if it was the fact that you were in the middle of the dance floor, blocked in amongst these drunk, sweaty people or the fact that you were wearing a new top that was definitely giving you a rash under your arms. Either way, your smile slowly started to fall, and leave it to Connor to notice immediately. 

“Hey, what’s up?” He asked close to your ear as he looped his fingers into your belt loops. You moved your hands to pull at your shirt. “Did someone spill their drink on you?”

“No, it’s just…” You paused, looking back at him.

“Your shirt…?” He trailed off, trying to figure out what the problem was.

“It’s irritating me,” You sighed, “Like it’s genuinely pissing me off.”

“We could always swap,” He shrugged like it was no deal. You slowly turned in his arms, looking at him in confusion as he moved his hands from the belt loops to your back pockets. “What?”

“Swap what? Swap shirts?”

“Yeah, if it’ll make you more comfortable, you can wear my shirt,” He offered, “It’s the same material as the dark red one you really like.”

“But then you’d be uncomfortable. I don’t want to make you uncomfortable,” You whined, even though deep down you really wanted to swap. You couldn’t make him do that. “Plus, this is a halter top.”

“I can see that,” He chuckled, running a hand over the strap over your collarbone. “I also knew that before making the offer. If it’ll make you feel better, we can swap right now.”

Next thing you knew, you two were working your way through the sea of people, followed by some wolf whistles from your friends, and towards the doors. Around the corner, Connor didn’t hesitate to unbutton his shirt before rebuttoning it on your figure, leaving a couple at the top undone. Then, you shimmied out of your top. You handed it over to him, and immediately, he threw it over his head.

“How do I look?” He joked, posing with his hands on his hips and popping a knee up.

“Gorgeous,” You laughed as you grabbed his hand. “Gimme a twirl!”

You spun him around a few times until he lost his footing and almost completely fell into you. You guys probably looked insane standing in a dark alley between the buildings, laughing your asses off, but you wouldn’t trade it for the world.

“But this feels better for you, too?” Connor asked once you’d both finally calmed down, and he could finish buttoning the top. “You look cute.”

“I feel cute,” You chuckled, hugging yourself, feeling the soft fabric. He really thought of everything…except, “How’d you know I didn’t like the shirt? And why didn’t you just bring a jacket? Surely that would’ve been easier.”

“I saw the tag, you hate polyester,” He said, turning to show the side tag, which indeed said 100% polyester. “ And to use your own words, a jacket ruins the fit.”

“God, I hate you somethimes,” You muttered, dragging him back inside where you ran into your friends as they were on their way out. “Woah, where are we doing?”

“There’s a park right there!” One of your friends shouted drunkenly over the music as they rested a hand on your shoulder. “We wanna go down the slide!” “No, I wanna go on the swings!” Another friend interrupted.

“How about we do that when you’re all sober?” Connor piped up, and all of their attention turned to him.

“Who are you?” Another friend laughed, pointing between you and Connor.

“That’s my man, remember?” You smirked as you side-eyed him.

“He’s wearing your shirt!”

“And I’m wearing his. Your point?” You knew they wouldn’t be able to answer, so after a beat of them all looking at each other, you said, “Yeah, I think it’s time we head home. It’s what-”

“2 AM,” Connor answered for you.

“Yeah, some of you work at 9.” You bit your tongue to stop from laughing as multiple of your friends groaned before dragging their feet to get closer. “Come on, we’ll make sure you get home safe.”

It took another hour before all five of them were dropped off at their respective houses, but instead of going home, Connor passed by your normal street.

“Are you drunk now, too?” You spoke up as he drove back into the city. “Where are we going?”

“We’re gonna go have some fun,” He said simply as he grabbed your hand.

“Well, don’t you wanna change first?” You asked. “No, not really.”

“My shirt cannot be that comfortable,” You chuckled.

“It’s not, but it’s yours.”

“You know what? I respect it.”

Whoever started the lie that you can’t be depressed in the summer needs to shut up.

Clearly, they’d never taken classes over summer and were able to live their happy little butts in relaxation, but you? No, you could never. Especially when you needed to get this degree done in order to travel with Connor more.

You were in your last semester, the home stretch, and all you needed was to get a 95 on this one final. Your other two classes were all buttoned up with As. You just needed this 95 to get an A-.

No biggie…yeah, right. Try working part-time, on top of still traveling with Connor cross country, on top of studying at loud tracks, which are NOT the optimal places to study (just saying). 

You’d just turned in your last research papers for two of your classes when your teacher sent out an email, reminding everyone of the topics on the final. You slammed your computer shut, not wanting to even open the email anyway. 

You let out a groan, rubbing your hands down your face before walking into your room. Connor was already laying in the bed, arm behind his head with his hair still wet from his post-race shower as he scrolled on his phone. When he heard you push through the doorway, he dropped his phone to the side, turning his full attention to you.

“What can I do for you?” He teased, sitting up as you walked in.

“I don’t even know anymore,” You sighed, walking into the bathroom to start your nightly routine. Just as you finished up, your eyes caught Connor’s through the mirror, and you sighed again. “I just need life to pause for a second. I can’t breathe.”

“Well, come here, then,” He replied, opening his arms for you. You walked past him momentarily to change into one of his JRM shirts and shorts before looking at him skeptically. He continued, “Let me love you, and we’ll work it out in due time. Right now, I need to make sure you’re okay.”

“I am okay,” You muttered, dropping your head like it weighed more than you could lift. He stood up and walked to stand in front of you, slowly dragging his hands down your arms to hold your hands.

“But you’re not,” He said in a soft tone, “I can tell. Just talk to me.”

“I need to study, Con!” You can’t tell if it’s the way he’s looking at you, or the fact that your emotions are finally catching up, or if you’re just really overwhelmed, but the next thing you knew, tears were spilling from your eyes. You couldn’t help it; your breath was harder to catch now as you hyperventilated, trying to get your point across to Connor. “I don’t have time, Con. It’s just…everything…”

“Hey, hey, slow down,” he comforted in a low voice, moving to pull you against his chest. 

“Con, I don’t have time for this.” You tried to push yourself away, but he just tightened his hold on you in response.

“No time for breathing?” He asked in a light tone before muttering, “No offense, but if that’s your logic, you don’t have time for a panic attack either.”

“You’re not helping,” You groaned, pulling a hand up to smack his shoulder.

“Point is, you can study tomorrow,” He said through a laugh. When that didn’t help you, he dropped the humor. “Your final isn’t until Wednesday. You have time. It’s not the end of the world.”

“But I don’t! I don’t have time! This is cumulative!”

“Yes, you do, babe, it’s only Sunday.” He couldn’t stop himself from laughing, but one look at your glare shut him up again. “You have all day tomorrow and Tuesday to study.”

“No, I don’t because we travel tomorrow!”

“And?” He questioned as if it was obvious. All he was met with was a deadpan look from you. “What do you think we can do at the airport? You don’t have to cram everything tonight and after we get home tomorrow.”

“No offense, Con, but you wouldn’t understand.” You smacked your head against his chest 

“Then, make me understand,” He stated, pulling back and sitting on the bed with his hands folded in his lap as if waiting to hear a lecture. “Make me understand what’s going on in your head, so I can help you.”

You don’t even remember what you said. All you know is by the end of it, you had worn a path into the ground, were hyperventilating and crying, and yet somehow, you felt lighter. Like explaining everything to him just lifted all of it off of your chest. Granted, you knew you still had to deal with the brunt of it by taking the actual test on Wednesday. You finally stopped, took a breath, and looked at Connor, who hadn’t moved an inch the entire time you ranted. 

“Are you still alive?” You chuckled light heartedly, whipping underneath your eyes.

“Yeah, just taking it all in,” He responded softly, opening his arms for you again, and this time, you walked straight into them. You moved to sit on his lap, but that only lasted a second before Connor laid back and pulled you with him. “I know nothing I say can make you feel better, but if you ever just need to talk about it, I’ll always listen.”

“I needed that,” You sighed, shifting around to get more comfortable before melting completely against his chest. “I really needed that.”

“I can tell,” He chuckled lowly, pressing a kiss to your head. “Now, we’re not going to think about tests or school or work or anything. Just you, me, and a movie, probably.”

“I don’t think I can pay attention to a movie,” You admitted, “Can you just talk to me? Tell me about the race.”

“Oh, don’t even get me started-” Funny enough, you didn’t even last to the end of lap 5 before you fell asleep.

And as it turned out, you didn’t need to worry about that test. Your professor changed it at the last minute to just be a case study paper after they couldn’t proctor the exam. You got a 98.
