I've been working on playing my Steam games I never got a chance to before and just finished CC! I really loved the art style, characters and how the game handles grief and loss. The characters were nicely fleshed out and I liked seeing their journey. I had wanted to see if there were other games you've done and I was so happy to see you're doing a prequel game for Hermina! She was such a mysterious character so I'm really interested in where that will go. Good luck with the game development!

Thanks for taking the time to write this, that makes me really happy! CCD&B is my only published game. I'm still working on Hermina's game– I've had to temporarily put it down due to stuff happening in my personal life, but it's mostly done so I feel confident in saying it'll come out... someday. :')

HLIOH update

Hello! It's been a while since I posted anything, so I just wanted to give a little update on HLIOH. It's definitely coming along! It hasn't always been easy— there were many big and time-consuming changes in my personal life last year, but every day I find some time to work on HLIOH and the progress has really been picking up.

If you've worked on a long-term project before, you're probably familiar with how morale can wax and wane throughout its lifetime:

I definitely went through the worst part— working a full-time job, it can be exhausting coming home and spending all my free time working on a side project... especially after four years of solo dev. It definitely felt like an insurmountable amount of work that needed to be done.

But I've been chipping away at it and it's finally at the part where it's coming together and there are playable sections of gameplay, so that's exciting. I think it's looking good for a 2020 release, although there's still plenty left to do.

To anyone reading this, thanks for sticking with me during the long development time and radio silences! I'm definitely the kind of dev that just wants to keep my head down and work on the game, but I'm going to try to be better about posting updates too.

I just wanted to say I've recently played CC and I, too, wish Gale wasn't dead. Can we get a big group hug for everyone who loves this boy because he deserves it (Hermina is my wife though, such a good character!).

So glad you enjoyed the characters! I’ve always said that’s the best compliment I could get.

Finally finished all the character speaking portraits!

It took a long time... Hermina’s game has a lot more characters than Corinne’s ^_^;

Here’s a peek at how the character portraits will look! This is Eun-ju and she’s one of the more 80′s-looking characters. B-)

I spent a lot of time deliberating how I wanted to do the portraits. I ended up going with something simpler than CCD&B’s hand-painted look in order to match the style of the game and to hopefully finish the portraits some time this century.

Here’s a look at where development’s currently at! Still a looong way to go.

This chart kind of makes me look like I’m farther along than I actually am... implementation and portrait illustration is very time-consuming.

I’m also still working on the writing; the main story is figured out, but there are a lot of scenes that need to be actually written out. Didn’t include it here because it’s not easily quantified.

Okay, time to get back to it!

I’m proud of this one because I programmed the logic myself. It may be simple, but I’ve never really been a confident programmer and until now I’ve tried to avoid doing the code on my own projects. I’m really trying to push myself to learn, though.

(Hidden offscreen is Hermina’s sister who actually has magic and can actually make potions. You’ll meet her later.)

Omg I just found your blogs AND ALL YOUR STUFF SOUNDS SO FRICKIN AWESOME!!!! When I get some extra money I wanna try out your game but I’m super excited about the one you’re developing. I love baking and plants and the the art is so cute so far I am just so excited I turned on notifications to get notified every time you post 😅 I can’t wait to play your game and see what happens with your new one!!! Ah thanks!! I’m so happy you’re looking forward to HLIOH. I’ll post an update this Saturday so keep an eye out for that. :-)

I hope you get a chance to try out CCD&B soon. It’s not necessary to play it first to play HLIOH, but it’ll definitely enhance the enjoyment. I usually put it on sale for each Steam sale, if that helps!

I got hired by Blizzard what whaaaat

I’m doing Compatibility QA there, and while it’s my dream company and super amazing and all that, it does mean development on Hermina Lumen is Only Human will slow down quite a bit.

I’m feeling really good about HLIOH though! Progress in the past few months has been awesome, and I’m learning tons. I’m almost done with all the maps in the game and working on character animations right now. It’s still pretty patchwork, but hopefully I’ll have some cool stuff to share soon. :o)

I’m also working on the Steam trading cards assets for CCD&B! Here’s the art for Hermina’s card.

Oh yeah and I’m obligated to say that all views/content posted here are my own and have no association with Blizzard whatsoever! (Obviously.)
