You stare at the android for a long moment before giving in and turning it on. It beeps quietly, a soft whirl that signals it's loading as you silently wonder if you should send it back. It was a gift, sure, but you still don't know from. There wasn't a return address and your friends have yet to respond.

The transition from sleeping to suddenly being on is seamless. He shifts, adjusting his stance to relax into something that almost looks real as he blinks. His eyes find yours.

"Good evening. I am Sylus, the android from CyberLife."

"Nice to meet you," you say softly, eyes widening in surprise at the tone of his voice. You knew they've been improving the technology but you didn't expect him to sound...real.

"You are designated as my owner and--"

"Don't call me that. Just...use my name and I'll use yours." You give him your name.

"But the contract has been signed by your acceptance. That makes me yours."

"No," you shake your head. "I'm not...if you're going to stay here, we have to be equals."

He blinks before his lips curl up into a smirk. He leans forward slightly and your breath hitches at how real he seems. You could almost forget he's a robot. "Equals? Then that means you're mine."
