Tilly Johnson, finally

I'm finally getting somewhere with the 1858 doubles! I wasn't going to post her first since I did T first in the 1917 set, but she's a VIP this cycle so once again T gets the special treatment lol

It's pretty simple overall, she's dressed up a bit but I'm keeping the collar and the bonnet she was wearing in the Tilly statue. Her bodice has a peplum to kind of reference Taylor's overshirt and the decorative lacing is inspired by Tabitha's dress.

Also just in case anyone is curious, her hair is accurate to the period. It was typical for children but I've seen a decent amount of (mostly young) women with similar hair cuts in the 1850s and 1860s; here's some examples of women of various ages. Yeah there could be any number of reasons why but in Tilly's case I made it short 20% because it's in between Taylor's and Tanya's hair and 80% because I just like it 😁

I guess it's time for my shameful confession. I'm really bad when it comes to remembering names or faces (which, in this case, is a big deal). So, yeah, I'm one of those players who didn't even notice the similarities (except for Andrew/Anthony) up to the moment they left the bar (?). I'm so ashamed to admit it now omg I'm a real dumbass 🤡

And although I made the right conclusions by the end of the game, I still messed up my relationship with Vince (I had 0 chances to figure out who he really was), so as a result, I got the police ending lol

I will never get over how wholesome the whole thing is 😁

So is The Devil In Me your favourite DPA game? I loved it a lot, but I still like Little Hope a tiny bit more, because the (everyone lives) ending is so tragic and emotional it made me cry.

That's such a tough one wow. I love TDIM and can replay it a lot, but I love Little Hope's story and build-up (it also made me cry). So I suppose Little Hope by just a tad. But they're very very close.

I swear somewhere on flickr there was a photo of three bored people on a train or something, and if I remember it right one was sleeping, one was eating, and the other was reading a newspaper, and it might have been the 1970s because vintage photos are what I usually look at on there but I'm not sure. Apparently I didn't save the photo for whatever reason, I can't imagine why because I immediately thought about how I can shoehorn my three precious RGB kids into it. So yeah I can't link to the inspiration, but here's two Clarke kids slowly losing the will to live and one who would probably sleep right through the apocalypse 🙂

Du'met is Megan's little brother

OK now that the shock has set in let's make sense of this, first let's acknowledge that Hector is 5yrs younger than Megan.

I've created bloodlines for all the other Clarke children to their other models but Megan shares a model with all the other child characters and I can't just connect them so Megan Clarke was a mystery. Separately I have believed from go that Clarence was a Clarke due to Du'met's model.

Ultimately I decided that Megan Clarke should just be Megan Clarke(she does have a level of resemblance to James, at least in my opinion), a niece that ended up living with James and Anne on a temporary basis after her mother died when she was a baby(maybe even at birth).

Clarence had a job that required him to be away but he tried to spend time with his daughter as much as possible, James and Anne initially tried to avoid Megan bonding to the other children as a sibling given that it was supposed to be temporary and they wanted to make the eventual change in living arrangements easier

As Megan was approaching school age James and Anne were starting to worry about her making friends she'd have to leave. Clarence was working on changing his work situation as well getting back into dating, he started getting serious with a slightly older woman who he even considered remarrying to and having a family with her and Megan but Lucinda started showing all her red flags at the first sign of commitment and Clarence got out of there and never looked back.

Shortly after he dies in a work place accident and Lucinda gives birth to Hector with no one on either side knowing the full story. James and Anne officially adopt Megan having already raised Megan to this point and because she was so young she viewed her actual father as more of an uncle and doesn't really think about why he stopped visiting, despite the best of intentions the Clarke's couldn't truely fix the fallout of not treating Megan like their own daughter for the first 5 years of her life and Anthony being the next youngest was least effected by it all because he may have heard words like "cousin" and "uncle" but as far as he was concerned Megan was and will always be his baby sister and unfortunately her own brother would never get that

Now the image shown here is strictly covering what's been discussed but I have in fact managed to make this family tree connect to all the uses of that model reaching back the centuries to little hope's witch trials and even to Dar(so stay tuned for that I guess)

literally this! it makes me a specific brand of mad to see taylor hate, simply because she's one of the best written girl characters in the entire series. which, of course, is why i feel like so many people dislike her -- taylor fails to fit into most of the archetypes that supermassive normally has for women, and what media normally leans into as well for them. a lot of the hate and weird takes about her character can be traced to that, imo. the thing about her is that she tries to be the independent, man hating, and snarky girlboss that the majority of players want to see ( hence the popularity of characters like kate and jamie, even fliss and clarice ) but she ... just isn't that entirely. she craves companionship and togetherness, no matter how much she verbally denounces it, and at her core she is a very needy type of character ; but because of her violent dismissal of the very things she obviously wants, and other noticable flaws like her stubbornness and headstrong attitude, she comes off as wishy washy. but that's the point of her character! little hope is about the cast fighting their instinctive bad traits, their flaws and warped perspectives on themselves and how they're perceived. her teetering back and forth and having constant setbacks is the point. it's not easy to fight nature, much less your own. it's a constant effort ... that's the humanity of it.

also i've seen so many people claim that taylor would've been better as a lesbian and that's also. not true! i understand the wariness of seeing a female character needing a male character, but her relationship with daniel is very important to her arc ( not to mention that if you believe in the reincarnation theory, they're literally soulmates, but go off tdpa fandom ) and not something that could be changed. a lot of her inner struggles are shown because of her dynamic with him. she can usually belittle daniel, or brush off the way he values their relationship, but no matter how mean she can be about it -- she can't stand daniel leaving her, not when everyone else is ( in her mind ) already set against her. a little moment that's always stuck with me is where, in the beginning, when everyone starts moving off towards the town ; taylor is quick to grab daniel's arm and, in a very wounded tone, is like “you're leaving me?” she does love daniel, she wants more than anything for them to be a team against everyone else, against the world, which proves that her whole 'i don't need people' schtick isn't true at all. and again, that's pivotal to understanding her character! her bearing is named team taylor for a reason. no, she isn't the girlboss who doesn't need anyone's approval kinda gal, but she's still powerful in her own right. and, honestly, her not falling into the stereotypical 'strong female' box is exactly why she won me over so hard by the end of the game. give me girl characters who can still find power in love! who can do things better with the support of others! who feel compelled to conform to a very toxic front that simply doesn't suit them and to eventually find happiness outside of it. it's ... compelling! and something i can personally relate to more than the hardened girl types this fandom seems to favor so much.

personally, i absolutely adore taylor. she's extremely flawed, and a bit of a hypocrite, and hard to navigate and understand, but that's literally what makes her stand out amongst the rest. and is exactly the point of the entire game anyway. so i never understand the hate for her, much less think it's even valid, if i may be so bold lol

I feel like a lot of people miss her development. In the beginning, she didn't want to be part of the team at all, but near the end, she feels more connected to the others. I get why some players dislike her attitude in the beginning, but I wish they would realize that's not all she is. :(

Not to mention, she probably reacts the most realistically in dangerous situations. She panics, just wants to get out of town, as everybody probably would. It's not a bad thing to be afraid!

Personally, I like her. No, she's not my favorite character. But she's really underrated!

I myself, like most players, didn't agree with her stubbornness at the very beginning of the game. But that's the whole point! To be honest, the development of her character for me is similar to the development of Jason. And at the very beginning I had the same feeling of dislike and misunderstanding for them, but my attitude towards them gradually changed as I played, and eventually they became my favorite characters.

I call it ✨️Character development ✨️ and that's what they both have and what I love so much about them
