Happy 10th Anniversary SOMA!! I meant to post this waaayy earlier today but various Events conspired against me (Apple Pencil ran out of battery and then my flight got delayed by Two Hours) but I’m slipping it in at the eleventh hour! I love this game so much it is one of the horror stories of all time to me. I remember watching all of Markiplier’s SOMA play-through across two afternoons at about the age of 12 and then having to sit at dinner staring into the middle-distance in a state of mild dissociation thinking about the ending while the rest of my family engaged in pleasant conversations about their days and attempted to ask me about a maths test. A fond memory.
My most diagnosable take is that honestly. As much as people in social justicey spaces talk about exercising your empathy ... there's also value in being able to turn it off so you're not extremely susceptible to emotional manipulation. Sometimes you have to be able to recognize "oh, this is bullshit propaganda trying to tug at my heartstrings" and stop giving a fuck about like. Colonizer feelings or whatever. Vibes can't override your principles

Ykw I’m glad Elias’s last words were an act of love for his son and not just anger/defiance towards Rorke. Tells you a lot about him in a short scene. Just think of all the other COD characters who died struggling and angry. Defiant. Screaming. Elias instead understood it was over and wanted to use his literal last seconds alive to tell Logan he was proud of him. I think that’s very important. I think Logan’s gonna remember it.
