in short, reducing the stigma and barriers to divorce would do wonders for ending transphobia in the UK; folks on twitter often (unkindly) joke that male transphobes are "extremely divorced" - i.e. taking out their anger and social alienation about their divorce on trans women - but there's probably a good case to be made that female transphobes are "insufficiently divorced". These are women who are, unconsciously, extremely invested in patriarchy; whose unexpressed distress about the loneliness of motherhood, the wage gap in high-paid jobs, husbands who don't listen or help with chores, the need to be feminine to get ahead - a certain kind of privileged rage when whiteness and wealth do nothing to diminish their perceived powerlessness, a rage that is sharpened and targeted at (trans) women who, somehow, seem to have escaped it all. Woman can also be a reductive gender position; it's not necessarily a liberationary identity. There are many ways in which individual women or womanhood as a concept can be politically limited. But i think there's just a stronger tradition within feminist radicalism of rejecting those limitations and creating new models, new ways of being. I'd like to see that for men as well.

MRI machines and cooling units and AC and IT systems in hospitals are breaking due to the heat. Lab equipment is failing. Some cancer treatments cannot be done due to machine failures. A&E overcrowding is worse due to heat related health issues and sheer amount of people is making the heat in hospitals worse (and the AC! Is breaking!) Patients with appointments are being advised to bring in "a lot" of water with them to be able to safely attend. Fans cannot be used in hospitals. Norwich has no functuoning MRI scanners right now. And the staff have to keep working through all of this, they are getting ill and sleep deprived which is compounding issues further. This is not normal 👍
