There's a DC alternate history where the Nazis win WW2, but it turns out that it's because Lex Luthor went back in time and froze Adolf Hitler in a big block of ice.
There are two things about this that immediately strike me from a story telling point of view. First, Hitler was a moronic egomaniac, whereas Luther is a genius egomaniac. Second, I don't think Luther would actually do the Holocaust, his bigotry is directed towards Meta Humans and Space Aliens, not Jews and Romani.
I am not actually familiar with where the writing for that arc went because I have neither read nor watched it, I'm simply aware of it, but if it has a good writer... Though I don't imagine that they actually tackle that idea because it would create big ethical questions around returning the timeline to the one we know.

Coming at this from a Watsonian perspective, living in a world where Luther had stopped the Holocaust, if the Justice League put it back the way it was then they would be the bad guys.
I should maybe watch it, but I expect to be disappointed and think I could have done better.
I guess if the Justice League are simply ending Luthor's Fascist Technocracy over Europe then that's fine 🤔.

Actually I'm not done talking about Elliot Page. You know that tweet that's going around that goes like "I always thought he was a terrible actor and hoped he would get better after transitioning but he is still bad" and people are touting it like it's peak ally behavior and I really don't get how they can't see how it's blatently an excuse to shit on him but woke? He's not a bad actor. He's never been. Even if you thought so before, how would you judge the difference? He's been in two badly reviewed seasons of the umbrella academy and five minutes of the odyssey, because transitioning just so happens to be bad for your career? Moot point bc he is not and people are just foaming at the mouth to be cruel to him without being accused of transphobia and it's clear as day.
If we're gonna be honest with ourselves, the sudden critique of Elliot Page's acting abilities is such a bad mask for transphobia it's insane. Because nobody is actually giving proper critique over the roles Elliot has done, they're just masking it with things like the bullshit lie of Elliot playing Achilles in the Odyssey. Which, most notably, he did not. And he was barely in the movie. And if they're not doing that they're attempting to emasculate him to hell and back because he's a short, small dude with a hefty mix of transphobic and misogynistic bullshit cowtowed as "critiscism" when all Elliot has been doing to these people is exist.
I'm going to be so real, before his transition, Elliot Page was never really on my radar. I didn't have an interest in anything they were in until people started being so horribly fucking rude about him. But now he's my brother and fuck ANYONE who can't handle that.

I never saw people say stuff like this enough when I was a teenager, so I’m saying it now.
I’m in my mid-thirties and I have never had sex. I’ve thought about it and could have had one or two opportunities if I put in more effort, but I always decided against it because I just wasn’t into it at the time.
I can safely say that I do not feel I have missed out on anything. I was perfectly capable, by myself, of learning about my own body and boundaries without anyone else there to muddy the waters. The immense pressure that was there in my teens/twenties to Have Sex Just Do It is basically gone. I’m vibing. I’ve got my routine by myself in bed that I enjoy, and that’s enough for me.
And in the unlikely event that I ever decide to have sex with someone in the future, I don’t feel at all like I’m lacking some essential Knowledge or Skill that would “make it good” for someone else. I fully expect to ask my partner out loud what they like and to receive an answer clearly communicated and to relax and have fun. And if it’s a disappointing experience, I’m fine with that too. It is what it is.
Sex is just not that big of a deal. I suspected it as a teen, and I’m more sure of it now. It’s fine to have it or not have it. It’s whatever.

While writing FMA, Hiromu Arakawa made it a point to interview WWII veterans. The emotional arcs and motivations of the Ishvalan war veterans & genocide aiders in the series are undeniably informed by those of real world people. It follows that, some of the people she interviewed would be classified as definite war criminals. And these are people who clearly still live their lives after war, and have to reckon everyday with what they took part in.
Hell ik there’s a lot of Americans who have older family members that got away with some monstrous shit during the Vietnam war. But their nieces and nephews wouldn’t know that; they just know they were the cool uncle when they were growing up, who gave the best birthday presents and was there for them when they had a falling out with parents, etc.
Anyway, Arakawa deliberately chose not to make the characters that were complicit in genocide cartoonishly evil caricatures that are easy to for readers to hate, because that’s just not reality.
There’s a reason that (Kimblee being somewhat of an exception), the only “Mwa haha!! I’m obviously Evil!!!” characters are the ones that are specifically IMITATIONS/INCOMPLETE human beings. The humonculi are explicitly made from just the essences of the 7 deadly sins (i.e only the “bad” bits of humanity). And they are not human. The metaphor speaks for itself…
The corollary of needing to be willing to frame arguments in terms of moral precepts you don't necessarily share is needing to be aware of subtext. Yes, it's easy to get a certain stripe of hyper-conservative folks to agree with anything you please by framing it in terms of opposition to Big Government, but a large part of that is because when you say "Big Government", what they hear is "Jews". You didn't hack their brain with magic words, you just didn't realise what you were saying!
I don't remember what post exactly I said this in, but I remember I once saw someone doing this and had to tell them "sometimes you think you're tricking the racist into agreeing with you when you're actually letting the racist trick you into agreeing with him"

She also recently sicced her followers on holylandspeaks on Instagram—iirc, she took one of his videos calling out the antisemitism in Italy, where he says Jews should be welcome wherever they go, and (this part I do fully remember) wrote on top of it Jews should be welcome, but not supporters of apartheid and genocide, thus painting him as those very things. Anyone who follows holylandspeaks knows that, when he lived in Israel, he was intimately involved with protests of the Israeli government and the peace movement, and continues to speak in support of both now that he resides in Italy. (But of course, if you don’t support the wholesale destruction of Israel, then obviously that means you support genocide (shhhh don’t look too closely at what the wholesale destruction of Israel would mean).)
