full disclose i watched the 2003 teen titans when it came out and it's not really that good of a show in any case

it's just DC branded junior copaganda again directed at kids that was brave enough to tackle serious real world issues in a gentle light

people appreciate that genuine reaching out and validation of the struggles they've gone through

this is part of the reason teen titans go picked up so many detractors who were enthusiasts of the original show

it just wasn't willing at all to make those concessions or be kind to the sensibilities teen titans brought to the table or make the 2003 fans feel heard

actually this is worth warranting a discussion about cartoon network's business practices when it comes to their programming and schedules

teen titans go was always a bad show because the network wanted it to be a cheaply produced cash cow, produced in the throes of late stage capitalism, weaponizing the nostalgia of the original show for an audience who wanted to be in on it without watching the original show

the show, if you are a young and impressionable young person who wanted to be in the culture of teen titans (2003) without watching it or understanding it, is meant to prey on your sensibilities because cartoon network wants your ass, your wallet and your ratings

it's gotten to a point where cartoon network at this point in time is turning itself into a breeding ground for shitty reboots of beloved IPs

it certainly is a very interesting post mortem, very very similar to homestuck in that regard

i am aware of homestuck 2, but it's general thesis is to treat the subject matter as fanfiction and nothing more, and really is not equipped to dissect the phenomena of "after the end" because it is clear that the goals of this supposed continuation is being stuck in a crippling emotional rut where nothing ever changes

and anyways. homestuck 2 is just not good, on every talking point. steven universe and it's "sequel series" are very much the same in that vein
