It’s not insensitive at all! My family aren’t immigrants so we are on a similar level of privilege on that. I will say my mother came from a tiny town in the rural southwest where there’s a lot of traditions that she misses and a whole different dialect of Spanish than most people speak and my father had his elderly parents there as well. They left all of it to come to the pnw after my father’s best friends got arrested for some serious stuff. They wanted to get my siblings and I a better chance at life. I know they miss it a lot and their families and there’s so many cultural traditions that I missed out on especially with the native american part of my family. I was also a gifted kid and everyone thought I would go into stem or politics which I still incorporate both into my art practice but yeah it definitely feels a little selfish. Especially now that their older. I also would probably be apprenticing to take over our family business if we still lived there so yeah anyway lots of reasons I love and relate to this movie.

That's fair and it's not selfish to want to do art! I can imagine it's difficult being disconnected from your culture due to distance. I'm sure that your family is still proud of you with your art even if they don't say it!

I think Elemental is the best movie ever made idc if it’s a pixar cartoon I cry everytime I watch it. As a temperamental poc who’s family moved away from their entire family for a better life and then I became an artist it hits so hard.

Elemental is a very good movie I agree. While I can't exactly relate to your experience especially since I'm not poc... I know the difficulty of moving away for a better life. It's complicated and I have a special place in my heart for refugees and anyone who moves for a better life... It's a similar shared experience for me too (I left due to harassment and feeling unsafe as an openly queer person in the area I was in) but I also recognize I come from a place of privilege in that I moved out of my own accord. I hope this doesn't come off insensitive I just want to connect with you and let u know you aren't alone in this experience even though it's not entirely the same.

I hope you are doing well in the hardship that comes with it. I think it's important to remember that a better life means having a freedom of choice too. I know there can sometimes be heavy expectations to fulfill in immigrant families, I imagine that's hard to grapple with. I hope you are treating yourself gently. What kind of art do you do?

My dude ur arms are bigger than mine. While yes I have hidden muscle that lets me win sometimes I think you would probably win. I don't muscle build like that... I'm mostly focused on joint strengthening and calisthenics when I actually work out. I don't build muscles as easily as most because my disability 💔
