Junpei/Chidori I
If you have a pairing or scenario you wanna see, comment here or on AO3!
āHey, hey, hey, Chidorita!ā
Junpei strolled into the hospital room and took a seat right next to the stiff recovery bed. He placed a small box he had been carrying onto his lap. Chidori looked up from her sketchbook just long enough to give him a glazed stare, her eyes only half-open. The girl went back to her drawing.
āSo⦠whatāre you drawing today?ā
āā¦A hideous monster from my dream.ā
āHmā¦ā Junpei leaned over at her paper. āKinda looks like me.ā
āYes,ā she subtly smiled. āI know.ā
āAnyway, sorry I couldnāt come in yesterday,ā he sighed. āHad an emergency. Mitsuru-senpai thought Koromaru was dying, but it turned out that he just got into the reserve dog food and wouldnāt get up. But you know Senpai. She's kinda alwaysā¦ā
While Junpei talked, Chidori kept sketching away, toiling away with her colored pencils. They wouldnāt give her regular ones, so these soft ones would have to do. The only sharp thing that they did give her was a pencil sharpener.
āā¦and Yuka-tan immediately accused me of putting gum under her desk!ā
āDid you?ā Chidori asked, not diverting her eyes from the page.
āI mean, yeah, but it sucks that she immediately assumed I was guilty, you know?ā
āI think I know it better than you might think.ā
āHm?ā Junpei tilted his head. āWhat do you mean?ā
āTake a look at me,ā she said, setting her book down to look at the young man. āI talk differently, I dress differently, and I act differently from others my age. As a result, people assume that Iām some kind of freak or mentally disturbed girl.ā
āWell⦠I didnāt think that,ā he shrugged, looking away. āI thought you looked pretty cute. You know, sitting there with that cute white dress just drawing the sceneryā¦ā
āAnd I thought you lookedā¦ā Chidori stopped herself.
āWhat? Thought I looked like what?ā
āWell⦠Junpei, you do have a habit of looking aimless when you walk around.ā
āHeh, donāt I know it,ā he smirked as if that was something to be proud of. āAnyway, itās been in my lap the whole time, and you havenāt asked me about the box!ā
āOh⦠Should I?ā
āCāmon, youāll love it!ā
āAlrightā¦ā she sighed, tiredly leaning back in her bed. āWhatās in the box, Junpei?ā
āWell, today on the way home from school I saw a little guy in the road and had to save him before a car came by! So for the afternoonā¦ā Junpei reached into the box and pulled out a small leaf turtle. āYouāve got the company of me and this little guy! I named him Leo.ā
āLeoā¦ā Chidori looked positively starstruck at the turtle, as if she were looking at a miracle happening before her very eyes. The girl gingerly cupped both hands together and held them out. āMay I⦠hold him?ā
āOh yeah, ācourse!ā
Junpei handed the turtle over to Chidori, who continued looking at the creature with wonder. Though the turtle had retreated into its shell momentarily, it poked its head out to look at Chidori. Slowly, it extended its limbs out and rubbed its head against her thumb.
āAw, looks like the little guy likes ya!ā Junpei chuckled. āSo, what do you think? New friend?ā
āā¦ā Chidori looked at Junpei with a smile that displayed how truly happy she felt. She couldnāt even explain it herself, but the little creature in her hands filled her with joy just to hold. āDo you think I could keep him?ā
āOh, uh⦠I donāt know if the hospital allows pets.ā
āYour Kirijo friend can make it happen, though, right?ā she asked, scratching under the turtleās chin. āAnd I know you can make her do it.ā
āWell, uhā¦ā Junpei scratched the back of his head. āYeah, I could do that.ā
āThank you,ā Chidori smiled, gently caressing the creatureās shell.
āSo, I guess you really like the little fella then, huh?ā
āI donāt get to meet other people with shells very often.ā
āHm? You donāt got a shell. You talked to me pretty easy.ā
āYouāre an exception,ā she explained, picking up her sketchpad and beginning to draw the shape of her new friend.
āAw, is it ācuz Iām so charming? Ruggedly handsome? Suave to a fault?ā
āAnnoyingly insistent.ā
āā¦Oh.ā
āBut I guess you wouldnāt be talking to me right now if you werenāt, soā¦ā Chidori gave a small shrug. āYou have to be doing something right.ā
āNow thatās what I like to hear!ā
