How much of our economic and societal structure is built with the clear expectation that people couple up and support each other? Where's the security nets and affordable options for people who will never have a partner/spouse to take care of them? How many people save serious commitment only for people they have a romantic and sexual relationship with? How many people will unquestionably prioritize their sexual and romantic relationship above all other social connections in their lives? And where does that leave the people who don't want that at all, ever?

#getting chronically ill while single and realizing I would lose my health insurance #because I couldn't work anymore #and yeah it's just so fucking expensive to go through life single #and that period of life where your friends all couple up #and you realize how little you matter to literally anyone lmao #like jesus late 20s was a fucking painful time #I'm not surprised that early 20s kids love stories about found families #but hit your late 20s and that shit is vanishingly rare #you are on your fucking own for the rest of your life #and it's your choice/fault!#oh you wanted kids?#sorry that's only for romantic partners

One of the worst parts of being chronically ill is how lonely it gets. You need a community to help you but you realize just how conditional your friendships are on you being able bodied.
