Man one thing I have no more patience for is the migraine Olympics.

It's true that a migraine isn't the same thing as a headache. It is not true that a migraine is automatically worse and more harrowing than a headache.

Migraines can be completely pain-free. Migraines can be low pain. And they can be high pain. One person can experience all three kinds.

Migraines can come with bizarre auras that sound intense and maybe scary when you describe them, but most often they don't. Some auras are visual, some are not. Some people get dizzy or clumsy or lose the ability to speak or mix up words. Some people don't.

Some people throw up a lot with migraines. Many people don't. Some people can't eat with a migraine. Some people find eating helps with the pain.

Like migraines suck and they can suck real bad. The most pain and distress I've ever experienced was thanks to a migraine, but that doesn't mean some level of pain and distress is required for something to be called a migraine.

It's a neurological disorder, and the severity of any given symptom is highly individual.

It's also just such a heterogeneous disease that in addition to people playing "my migraines are so bad I can't even blink when I have them so if you are experiencing less pain than that it's not a migraine" you have people saying "well my friend Jill can work fulltime/do all her chores/show up to every engagement/what-the-fuck-ever with her migraines so clearly you are lying/malingering/not trying hard enough"

like maybe everyone is experiencing their life differently from each other
