this is my man Jerry. I just met him at the train station. We got off the same train. He was struggling to find his way to his next train, so I linked up with him as asked if I can help walk him over. He grabbed my arm, and asked for his name. He responded and asked for mine. I told him my name and he said, “oh, you Mosleeem” *with that old school black OG type voice* I said yea I’m Muslim. He said “as salamoLaykum!” emphatically. We started walking and he asked me if my family was Muslim (the thing is being Muslim is very indigenous to Black Americans. Most families have at least one person that’s Muslim). I said most of my family is Muslim but my mum is Christian, and I became more convinced of its message after some years of study. He said he dabbed in Islam a bit as well, but was still caught up in the streets. I asked him for advice… he went on for 10mins as we walked, advising me on religion (he said just keep it real and go all in if you’re gonna do it). He spoke on hypocrisy among religious people… he of course advised me on women. He spoke about drugs, gang life…
He said he’s happy I’ve made this decision at such a young age, but he knows I’ve been around 😝 and that I’ve probably done more crazy stuff in my short life than him… I laughed 🤷🏾♀️😝. I got him on his next train and told him to pray for me. So yea pray for Jerry too!
