“i saw you talking to some of the tourists,” david said, trying to put on an air of indifference as he placed a cigarette between his lips. however, the way he refused to look directly at alexis said exactly what he wouldn’t admit – that he was jealous. “are you going to meet up with them later? people who go to that club usually hook up a lot,” he noted, flicking the ash from his cigarette aggressively. “hook up culture isn’t really for you – you’re too sentimental. but, maybe it will be good for you to mess around with someone who isn’t me.” david’s jaw clenched. he didn’t want alex to be with anyone else but him. but, david had himself to protect. if he could wean himself off of his dependency for alex by convincing the other to go out with others, then letting go of alex would be easier.

alex knew that he couldn’t bring himself to look the other in the eye at this point, his lies would surely shine through along with the tears that presently threatened to pool. he had worked so hard to build up a hardened exterior for himself after david’s death, he wouldn’t allow anything to penetrate it. his breathing grew uneven as he forced himself to finally look up at the other, his icy gaze melting at the sight of sudden tears. he had only ever seen david cry once before, in the few moments before the other’s death. maybe the other’s mother had been right all along, he was no good for him — all he did was hurt david. he had been twisted into believing the woman’s words despite david being the one who broke his heart. but he would forgive the other each time. he spent so many nights wishing he could see the other again and now that the dream was a reality, he was throwing that chance away. he was still his david. the tears that stung his eyes and blurred his vision finally won the battle, trickling down his flushed cheeks. he had spent far too much time holding them in. each word uttered caused his heart to crack further, an aching feeling radiating from his core as he watched david turn his back on him. he didn’t want him to run, he didn’t want history to repeat itself. he quickly stepped forward and wrapped his arms around the other’s waist from behind to keep david anchored. “don’t fucking say shit like that. not when i’ve spent so many years mourning you, never truly giving myself to anyone in the way i gave myself to you. i would’ve done anything to bring you back, to trade our places.” he murmured, burying his face against the other’s back as tears continued to stream. “don’t run from me, don’t leave me. please.” he begged, arms tightening around the other’s middle. “i’m sorry for what i said, i didn’t mean it. i know that what we had wasn’t just some idealized fantasy we made up. nothing i’ve experienced ever felt that real…” he was practically sobbing at this point, unable to stop the floodgate of emotions that had opened up. “i could never be bored of you.” 

david was at a loss the moment he turned around. the world felt colder, crueler. he felt as if he was facing a stone wall with no future to be seen or attained. his future was behind him — had been behind him ever since he chased it and brought an end to himself. he was shocked by the sudden embrace, thoughts coming to a sudden halt. he’d missed it so much. his heart ached even more though he should have been glad to know how much alex had missed him. david’s hands rested over alex’s, trying to convince himself that this was all real — the soft skin, the way alex’s body practically melted against his, the warmth that blossomed from their touch alone. hearing the other cry was enough to cause david to turn around, his own tears silent and steady as he lifted up alex’s chin. “i never left you, not really,” he said softly. “every day i watched you. every day i waited for you. every day i begged for you. i never stopped regretting every word i spoke then. i only wished i could tell you that i was sorry, that you should have never blamed yourself for what i did and what i said. but, before all of that, every bit of it was real. i was really in love with you, and i was really scared. i never felt anything like that in my life and i just didn’t want you to leave me before i was ready to let go — because i never would be ready,” he continued before pulling alex in for a tight hug as he cradled the other’s head. “je t'adore. je t'aime. je ne suis qu'une fleur qui s'épanouit sous ton soleil. can we just… allow each other to exist for each other? no doubts, no jealousy. i live for you, and you will live for me?”

arguing with david was akin to yelling at a brick wall, yet somehow alex still chose to waste his breath on the other. a sigh fell from his lips as he shook his head slightly in frustration, “of course, of course, david gorman is never wrong. you’re so fucking perfect and have never made a mistake in your entire life.” bitterness coated his words as he leaned against the counter in the storefront, not wanting to cause a scene yet still feeling the need to fight back. they were both like animals backed into corners when they were upset — or maybe even fire and gasoline. “you know what? let’s just drop this…” he tapped his fingers against the surface in front of him, a nervous habit. “clearly nothing i say is going to change your mind, so why bother?” despite all the things that he loved about the other, there was no denying that david was one of the most stubborn individuals he had ever met. he never let up during any fights, whether it was between them or otherwise. “i just don’t get why you’re getting worked up over me supposedly flirting with someone when you have people all over you all the time.” / @baiseretdanser​

a scoff escaped david as the other patronized him, hands on his hips as he turned away from alex for a moment. “you always have to say that i am perfect, don’t you? you always like to create this image of me,” he spat out, clearly not done with the conversation. while he thrived on how much alex had practically worshiped him and how he saw him, it was times like these where it backfired on them both. “no, you cannot change my mind because you were flirting! you cannot compare you and i,” he said, hands moving through the air rigidly. alex was his — no one else’s. “you do not flirt. that’s just not you. so, why would that change unless i am not ‘perfect’ enough, huh? so what if people are all over me? this has always been true with or without you. this is what people do when it comes to me. but you? you’re a closed book. you don’t let anyone do that to you. so, why change? are you bored of me now? do i not do enough to entertain you?”

a look of confusion flickered across alexis’ features the moment he heard elio’s comment, brows furrowed as he scanned over the other’s features. “qu’est-ce que tu dis?” while insecurities were something he could easily emphasize with, the accusation felt as if it had been pulled out of thin air. had it been because he had been so wrapped up with his studies that he hadn’t been spending as much time as he would’ve liked with elio? that was the only explanation he could think of at this point. or at least the only realistic one. “if any one of us isn’t good enough for the other, it’s probably me.” while he didn’t necessarily believe it, his mood had soured and he couldn’t help but act out defensively. he folded his arms tightly across his chest as he continued to scan the other over, “i mean… what about that guy you hooked up with last summer? do you fuck all of your father’s proteges or am i just a replacement for him?” / @baiseretdanser​

elio knew he probably shouldn’t have said anything and kept his doubts to himself, but he had a habit of saying the wrong thing at the wrong time — something he should have learned from last summer. however, the claim that alexis wasn’t enough for him caused elio’s brows to furrow. he’d never considered alexis as anything but a blessing or a light in the darkness that he’d fallen into. his stomach churned. “how could you say that?” he asked, voice barely above a whisper. “how have i ever made you believe that i fuck everyone or i’m using you? tu es sérieux en ce moment?” he practically hissed, jaw tight and eyes watering. he wasn't going to cry but he really wanted to. he’d made a mistake last summer and it was still blowing up in his face. “and you? you’re not just using me to fill your time without him? i’m just some bandaid until you can find someone else like him — cause i know i’m nothing like him.”
