“Momo! You are swimming too fast or else you will pull a muscle like last time, I can’t have injured swimmers. Please be more careful and watch your swimming strategies.”
☪ five times our muses almost hold hands, and the one time they do.
He had no prior knowledge about maintaining a relationship, and the advice given to him by his upperclassmen, friends as well as his brother—some asked for, but most of the time it was unwarranted—were salacious in nature. Bastards. And now was one of those far and in between moments where he was alone with his girlfriend.
Ami with all beatific smiles, pretty tinkling laughter, kind eyes and infinite patience. Momotarou wonders how the girl reciprocated his feelings, but he chose not to dwell on it much. Love was love, a reason wasn’t needed to love someone.
The ochre haired student was pulled out of his thoughts when the girl in question expels a forlorn sigh. He ducks his head until the top of his cheek brushes against hers, eliciting a giggle from the abrupt contact. Their fingers bump when she hip checks him, and the urge to hold her delicate hand in his is overwhelming. And just as he was about to reach out for her, their attention is diverted when their mutual friend comes and steals them away from their cozy nook between bookcases.
With a sigh, he relents, raising himself up to his full height and giving his girlfriend space to move. She places the novel back in place and skips across the distance to entangle her arms around their roseate haired friend who waggles his brows at him from over Ami’s head. He responds with a glare, but hides his blush nonetheless by slapping a hand over the lower half of his face, faking a cough.
“Are you okay, Momo-kun?” He hears Ami ask him softly, accompanied by her fingers dancing up his arm and shoulder to rest on his forehead. “You’re not sick are you?”
“I’m fine, Ami,” he mutters. “I promise.”
The second and third time the opportunity to hold her hand arises follows like the first: interrupted by their friends who seemed to know all too well his intentions. At times their attention on his relationship with Ami made him feel uneasy, as if they were just waiting for the moment he would trip up and call him out on it. His friends were terrible people, and he told them as much whenever the need to do so comes—which was quite often.
The group found themselves in their usual dive, a little gem of a café at the corner of a nondescript street surrounded by blooming trees that were the catalyst for a few sneezes. It was a beautiful day, and everything was going well and Ami was so close and warm and lovely.
Everyone was distracted by idle chit chat and their meals, but Momotarou’s attention was focused solely on Ami who he was having a hushed conversation with. Their hands were on the vinyl seats, their fingers touching, sending jolts of electricity up and down his arm, making him feel like livewire. Inching his hand forward, he heard the subtle catch in her breath when their fingers were loosely interlaced.
But as fate would dictate, they were interrupted by the boisterous guffaw of Riku, who wrapped an arm around Momotarou’s neck and yanked him out of his seat, stealing him away from their table to satiate the flaxen haired runner’s need to play table tennis.
( Momotarou will never admit it aloud, but he hit the ball hard in hopes that it would smack his friend's face a few times as low-key revenge for cockblocking him. )
Another chance comes to light when Momotarou found himself walking side by side with Ami. There was a respectable distance between them, but the atmosphere was stifling him. They hadn't spoken to one another since they had left the library and ambled on towards the train station he would see her off at.
Throwing caution to the wind, the carmine haired teenager outstretches his arm to catch her hand in his--but as always some sort of cosmic intervention prevents that.
He doesn't see it coming, the flash of brown, white, blue and red all but a blur of colors that knocks him forward, which also causes Ami to stumbl with them when Momotarou grips her arm to balance himself. They lay a heap of bodies on asphalt, the world spinning before it settles and Momotarou veers his ire at the culprit.
"YAGAMI RIKU--!!"
( He swears on his grave that he will exact his revenge when the sonic meme manages to land himself a girlfriend. )
Momotarou had all but given up on the prospect of holding his girlfriend's hand. At every turn, their friends thwarted his pure intentions through public humiliation, assault, and kidnapping. Yes, kidnapping. Taking someone against their will counts as kidnapping, Yagami! But with a dejected sigh, Momotarou kicks the air, picking up his stride so he wouldn't be late for Ami and his' weekly study date.
His gait falters when he hears his name being called out. Turning, he's greeted with the sight of Ami running towards him, hair dancing wildly in the wind, eyes alight from the sun's gentle rays. She really was poetry in motion.
Momotarou offers her a smile when she comes to a stop before him, and blushes hotly when he feels her hand slip into his own, entwining her fingers through his and squeezing gently. The boy fumbles with his words, stutering and stammering as he stares at their interlocked hands as if God himself has blest him after nearly a lifetime of misfortune. But he settles with silence as words refuse to form coherently, but a smile is on his lips nonetheless. Ami mimicks his smile as she tugs him forward, leading him the rest of the way towards their destination.
"I'm sure our friends meant nothing by it, Momo-kun!"
"I'm not lying, Ami! They hate me! They really do! It took three months! Three!! To even hold your hand!"
If she had any possible doubts before, they all were vanished by just the so enthusistic, so over the top way he called her name. It was Momotarou, alright.
Chiri had only so few people she knew outside her circle, having one comming around again was certainly nice.—-Specially when he looked just so happy and genuine…she couldn’t recall many people who were excited to meet her again at all. She could feel her heart warming up, and a soft but meanigful smile curled her lips. Nevermind the heat that colored her cheeks with an embarrased blush…because yes, having the boy practicaly jumping while grabbing her hand was pretty embarrasing. Still, she felt glad.
“I’ve been well myself, thank you. Busy as always, I suppose.” She says, almost allowing herself to laugh. “Hope you’ve been doing well, too?– I’m certain you’re taller, an inch to be precise.”
" Eh?! Really!? I hope so, I've implemented milk
into my diet at the insistence of Nii-chan. He
joked that I might have shrunk instead of grew. "
Change was always a funny thing. It happens when
you least expect it && at times, it was unwelcome;
unwanted. But time had treated Chiri quite well. The
seasons may have changed as they always do, but
Chiri hadn't--or maybe she did && he couldn't tell.
From what Momotarou could discern at first glance:
she held her head a bit higher than before. But that
telltale confidence && haughtiness he had glimpsed
the first time still remained--it was familiar && secretly
he was relieved.
Giving her hand another gentle squeeze before he lets
go. Clasping his hands together && places his hands
behind his head, exuding noncholance when he was
anything but. He was so so so happy to have reconciled
with the woman.
" I've been pretty busy, too. School and swimming
are practically my life now--Oh! I even got a girlfriend!! "
The rules are simple! Post ten characters you’d like to roleplay as, then tag ten people to do the same ( if you can’t think of ten characters, just write down however many you can and tag the same amount of people ). Aside from that, please REPOST instead of reblogging.

it’s the only reason he can think of as to why this guy could say something like that and still be on the swim team. seriously.
“ that’s not how it works. that’s really not at all how any of this works.”
Offput that his assumption was wrong,
the carmine haired teenager diverts his
gaze, petulance shining through as he
mutters under his breath.
