The thing about crimson was that it had always been the color of a blood bruise, of kiss-bitten lips, a sailor’s warning, the first note that colored the sky after night had lifted its veil to welcome the dawn.

But it was something else, too. It was chaos and casualties, pent up rage engulfing the half that cursed him from birth. It was the fall between the cracks and the maddeningly all-consuming fire that had altered his fate and burnt the bridge to herodom.

Most of all, it was Katsuki. Most of all, he was too far gone to turn back.

“It’s… been a while,” is what Todoroki manages to say, clearly confused as to why Katsuki is still mad at him. Katsuki… is not, actually. It was just sudden emotion—fucking feelings—but Katsuki is different now. Damn, he should be.

So, he tries again. “It has.”

Everyone knew the story of soul marks. How when your soul mate touches you for the first time, they leave behind a black mark in the same spot. But caught up in the heat of the sports festival, neither one spared a thought for it. That is until the distinct shape of a hand appears on Bakugo’s arm and the left side of Todorokis face, the same spot where they grabbed on to throw the other across the ring. Then suddenly it’s ringing loud and clear in their heads while they try to process how the hell THEY can be SOUL MATES.
