I’ve gotten a few questions from people asking how they can deepen their practice with backbends. One key element that has helped me out a lot is OPEN shoulders. There are a lot of poses you can practice that can help open your shoulders, giving you more flexibility and allowing deeper backbends. It’s really important with backbends that you’re distributing the flexibility equally along the spine. By opening up the chest and shoulders you’re making sure you aren’t putting too much pressure on your lower back. These are a few basic stretches I’ll do before practicing deeper bends. Give them a try! (If you’re doing the #YogaIsMoreThanAsana challenge these are some good stretches to do before practicing our pose today, which @healthyspirityogi announced is #BowPose)
