Although Kythira island belongs to the Ionian islands complex, it lies far from the rest of its Ionian neighbors, so it is rather a secluded island. The island’s architecture is strongly influenced by the Venetians, who had ruled the island during the Medieval age. On a hill above Chora, there’s a Medieval Castle, a vestige of the Venetian era, which boasts an incredible view of the Aegean Sea. ✌⁠ #Vršič #Mountain #Pass with its 1,611m is the highest road pass in the Eastern Julian Alps. The high-mountain road from Kranjska Gora through Vršič to Log in Trenta has 50 serpentines, 24 on the side of Kranjska Gora and 26 on the Trenta side. In Vršič, you can relax and have something to eat or drink in the mountain cabins.Vršič is also the starting point for the Mala Mojstrovka and Jalovec Mountain sand for a very popular (mostly for families) Slemenova Špica Mountain. Geologically, Visočica is part of the Dinaric #Alps and formed largely of secondary and tertiary sedimentary rock, mostly limestone and dolomite. Due to subterranean non-porous geological layers, the typical karst characteristics of the nearby Herzegovina mountains are relatively absent in Visočica, resulting in enough water sources, even at heights around 1500–1700m. ✌⠀ #BanjaLuka is the second-biggest city in Bosnia and the de facto capital of the Republika #Srpska. After Serbian nationalists systematically destroyed most of the city's historical and cultural heritage – including mosques, Catholic churches, a historical clock tower and various 16th-century buildings – a rather bland, soulless place was left. ✌⁠ Imagine a crown of stone atop a grassy hill.. Sounds rather impressive, huh? Well it doesn’t only sound impressive – it looks impressive! The Serbian Camelot, called the #Maglič #Fortress, is tucked away safely in the wilderness of central Serbia. Observed from below it looks almost unreachable, like a giant crown of stone atop a huge rock. It is only one of 200 #medieval Serbian cities but it has an undeniable uniqueness to it. This castle survived countless wars and uprisings, and for that it can thank its inaccessibility. And the fog.
