What are you most proud of with your writing process?

The thing i'm most proud of about my writing process is how much I've learned to value revisions. Being a design major I've been through many critiques and they have taught me to value and consider other people's perspectives. I used to be so embarrassed of other people seeing something I wrote but now I understand how important feedback is. You can use negative criticism to improve your work rather than make you feel embarrassed or bad about yourself.

This is such a true statement. I used to never proofread any of my assignments. Although I never got bad grades (which enabled me to continue), it is not a good habit. So this class has helped me realize how important it is to make revisions to my work.

What do you like the most about your CL Reflection?

I think I did a good job highlighting different projects we worked on throughout the semester rather than just referencing one. The projects we worked on were varied in their objectives and purposes so I tried to use that to my advantage when discussing different topics throughout the reflection.

Yes, I also did the same thing. I tried to mention multiple projects per prompt so that it represented the entire course. I thought it was a good way to reflect on the course as a whole.

What am I most proud of with my writing process?

The design project we previously had involved imagining a specific scenario with a canceled show included making posts from the creators and from angry fan. I really connected with this project and feel like it was my best writing for the class. Writing with a narrative in mind is what I find the most engaging, and I feel I am able to make decently realistic depictions of people engaging with others. This writing process involves considering real world experiences I have witnessed and emotions I have personally felt, and I feel this personal knowledge improves my writing.

That's so cool that you were able to connect with this project. I also thought the Design Project was some of my best work. I don't know if it was because I was excited about creating a show or if it was something I knew a lot about. Either way, I think mine turned out really well.

what do you like most about your learning?

What I like most about my learning process is the constant adapting and improvement I undergo through every class. Each course provides me with new insights, helping me refine my understanding of language and context. This ongoing learning allows me to better assist with diverse tasks, adapt to different communication styles, and handle complex or nuanced subjects more effectively.

what do you like the most about your CL Reflection?

I like a lot of the parts of Content Learning reflection. I really liked how this helped me reflect on what we have covered over the course. Sometimes it is hard to fully comprehend how much you have learned during a semester, so doing this reflection has helped me tangibly put into words what I have learned.

what are you most proud of with your writing process?

I'm going to be honest my writing process is a work in progress. Most of the time I just word vomit onto the page and hope that it makes sense. Although my process is not as organized as I would like it to be, I am proud of my ability to get writing assignments done. I am able to adapt my writing to match the tone and voice I need to for different writing assignments.

share an example of your experience as a fan of a show that was cancelled. help us feel the feels

I know of a show on Netflix that only has one season and was quickly cancelled and it is called, “The Imperfect.” Although I could see why it was cancelled as it didn’t have much viewership. It didn’t excuse the amount of potential it could have and that was the most disappointing part of a show being cancelled. Wasted potential.

I also mentioned Netflix shows in my post. It sucks that they are constantly making short-season shows, giving them no time to grow an audience, then ultimately canceling it after one season. It sucks because 10 episodes are not enough time to tell a fully thought out story, with developed characters. It is hard to connect to a character in such a short time. I wish they would go back to 20+ episodes which would give a show a fighting chance.

I’m somebody who watches Netflix a lot lately and have been finding obscured shows on there and one of them is a show called The Order. I thought the magic system was interesting and there were parts of the show that I thought was unintentionally funny so it became sort of a binge watch show for me. So when the series got cancelled, I got disappointed because I wanted to see more of this shows shenanigans because it became of a funny bad guilty pleasure.

I LOVED THE ORDER!! I talked about it in my post. It sucks that Netflix canceled it, especially when it ended on a cliffhanger. I wish they would have given them one episode to wrap up the series on a more final note. But unfortunately, Netflix sucks.

This is what one of my sample posts looks like. Do you think they sound fine? Are they too long? How can I revise them? I wanted them to look realistic, while also sounding like real people.

share an example of your favorite television show or movie - how does that show/movie help you work through this project and understand angry fandom

I am an avid movie/tv show consumer. One of my favorite shows is Veronica Mars. Although I did not watch it while it was airing (i was not born yet), I can understand how fans felt when it was canceled. The show had three seasons and then ended after low ratings. The show eventually got a last season 12 years later, but it was BAD. Although fans were happy the show got a more concrete ending, season 4 was a let down. Being apart of the fandom has allowed me to use these feelings to make this project.

Share an example of your experience as a fan of a show that was cancelled.

Unfortunately, shows getting canceled is the new norm in the world of streaming. I have experienced a lot of heartbreak when it comes to shows being left unfinished, especially by Netflix. Shows like Society and The Order are two that come to mind that were canceled without warning. Both shows were left on cliffhangers and left fans (me) unsatisfied.

For part 2 of the design project, it says to "revise posts, include connective elements so these posts connect with audiences, and include design elements so these look like 'real' posts." What type of connective elements should we be using? How do we make them resonate with the audience?

write a style rule for creating a YouTube short video, why is this key for the audience to view it?

In order to create a successful YouTube short video there must be a strong hook at the beginning of the video. On a platform like shorts, TikTok, or Instagram reels users are viewing so much content in a short amount of time that it is critical to hook them at the beginning. An example of a hook at the beginning of the video may be a preview of the final result that will be shown at the end of your video (e.g. if the video involved a short food recipe the user might preview the end product of the recipe before showing the details of the recipe). This rule also applies to all other short video formats like TikTok and Instagram reels as I mentioned earlier.

I completely agree. Especially with Shorts, in which the time limit is one minute, you have to make the hook interesting. If you don't get to the point quickly, the user will most likely scroll. Using tactics like interesting editing and comedy also helps your shorts get noticed.

Appeal of long Youtube videos

explain the appeal of long youtube videos

The reason as to why some people like long youtube videos is that they often want to sit down for an extended period of time to enjoy their favorite creator. often times, this enjoyment is multitasked with another activity such as cooking/eating dinner. It can also be more relaxing of a pace, as compared to shorts and reels that are around 30 seconds, full 15 minute or greater videos have the necessary time to fully discuss topics without feeling overstimulating. So, from a viewer standpoint, it is nice to relax an fully envelop.

In terms of the creator, their reason lies in the strategy to pertain content in this long format style that pertains to a particular genre, which varies from one content creator to the next.

This is a lot like what I said in my post. For me personally, I am less likely to doomscroll on YouTube because the videos are longer. I am usually more satisfied with watching two videos on YouTube, than on TikTok where I just keep scrolling (it feels impossible to stop sometimes).

Hi! I had never really thought about it like that, but that is true. It is like writing an article, you want your first and last line to stick in the readers head. You hook and closing are also important on Tumblr.

explain the appeal of long youtube videos (10+ minutes), why do viewers watch? How do the creators make choices to engage the audience?

For me, I like to watch longer videos to relax. It's almost like watching a TV show but with less commitment. Most of the time I will look for 10-15 minute videos to watch while I eat lunch or dinner. It is a nice break from the short-form content of TikTok or Reels, and helps me stop doomscrolling. This is true for a lot of people, which is what makes longer-form content appealing to both creators and their audience.
