I have a very heavy autistic interest in The Vietnam War and will probably post bits about that! I'm a living history reenactor for Vietnam, too — I'm a nurse of the 44th Medical Brigade, and aim to also represent the donut dollies when I can find a dress.

🎆Fireworks: Do you/your self-insert have any powers or abilities? If so, what are they and how do they manifest?

So this requires a lot of external information. I've ported Grace Augustine from Avatar over to the MCU as my s/i's mother. Grace was working with Dr. Bruce Banner through the 70s/80s to recreate the super soldier serum used to create Captain America. Funding for the project was eventually cut, but Grace wasn't ready to let it go. She synthesized a version of the serum in her home lab(/kitchen) and injected HERSELF with it (later inspiring Banner to take his OWN serum to become The Hulk). Unbeknownst to Grace at the time of injection, she was pregnant. The serum only effected her child, who seemed to grow mostly normally until Grace had given birth. It came out...wrong. It's limbs were too long, it was too sickly thin to even be alive, let alone to be making the abhorrent screeching sound that had every surrounding nurse and doctor covering their ears. Grace had planned to terminate the subject after realizing it was a direct result of the failed serum, but then it began to change. Right in front of her eyes, the creature's skin melted into a puddle to reveal a very human looking baby underneath. After this, Grace lost her nerve to terminate it, and instead passed it along to a vigilante friend of hers that she knew would take care of it.

The Amalgam (or; August) has the ability to shapeshift, but it doesn't change quickly or easily. The human face/body it wears acts as a cocoon of sorts, where its internal matter sits inside the musculature as a formless goop. When it wants to change, it has to solidify itself inside the cocoon and then claw its way out. Luckily, the heat generated from goop becoming solid helps to melt the muscles and skin holding it together, making it easier to tear apart. The "monster" it becomes is nine feet tall with gangly limbs and long, sharp claws on its hands and feet. It's completely hairless with no discernable gender. Big sad eyes, a mouth full of sharp teeth and a protruding skeleton. (I have a couple old drawings if anyone wants to see but I'm not gonna post them here bc last time i tried it got flagged for nudity booo) The structure shifts and changes to once again have the external structure act as a cocoon, meaning if it wants to look human again it has to go through the entire process again. It appears to be functionally immortal, as any damage to the outer layer becomes irrelevant when it changes. However it doesn't heal as humans do, any damage sustained by the cocoon will remain until it shifts.

While appearing human, it still has some heighten abilities. Better perception than the average person, better eye sight, slightly stronger but quite a bit physically slower. Its cognition is also slowed, as it doesn't technically have a brain, but its memory is great, bordering on photographic (the movie kind of photographic memory, not the real kind lmao).

The ONLY thing I can think of is seeing its mom again/for the first time! After Grace gave it up for its own survival, the two didn't cross paths again for 20+ years. August had a vague memory of her face, due to its enhanced memory, but other than that was unaware of her name or where to find her. They were reintroduced at the Avengers Compound, where Grace was able to answer all the questions August had about its own life and where it came from.

Also more lore bc I'm ON ONE and I dont want to forget:

Grace had been enlisted by SHIELD to help with their Expansion Initiative. After finding the likes of Sam Wilson and Wanda Maximoff, it came to SHIELD's attention that there were probably many enhanced individuals all over the world. The Avengers Compound became the headquarters for the initiative, where agents would capture and contain enhanced individuals in the buildings basement until they could figure out what to do with them. SHIELD assessed each of them individually, deciding if their power would be useful to the avengers. If the answer was no, they were allowed freedom so long as they stayed on SHIELD's radar and came in for frequent check-ups. If the answer was yes, the individuals would be put into training. On the rare occasion that a subject was too powerful, or powerful but uncooperative, it would be terminated.

Grace was brought in specifically to find The Amalgam. She was pardoned from her crimes so long as she helped. She did, of course, but was unaware that August would be treated as a hostile until proven otherwise. Unfortunately, being ripped from their apartment in the middle of the night by six agents doesn't reeeallly make someone want to cooperative. It was eventually contained, but it refused to do what it was told and fought back every step of the way. Grace narrowly managed to convince SHIELD to NOT terminate August, instead asking if she could be allowed in its cell to explain things and hopefully convince it to join the Avengers. < Which worked btw ! Though due to past interactions with agents, August was kept on a short leash and only allowed to leave their room(re; cell) with supervision.

Oouu i haven't written this out yet so the details are fuzzy BUT: Between s2 and s3 Lee falls and sprains their ankle. The recovery time isn't that long, and its not a deathly injury, but they're unable to hunt and protect Sophia during that time, so that's when they decide to teach her how to take care of herself!

Pre-canon, though, they spent a whole summer stuck inside because they broke their ankle jumping off the swings. (Their older sister dared them to, and they did NOT want to seem weak in front of her, but then they cried for four hours straight until the ER doctors gave them medication)

Oh dude. ohhhh so fucking many Lee is kinda hard to like lowkey !! but again I'll narrow it down to three(ish)

Shane: This one feels obviousss hes such an asshole who doesn't respect or trust Lee for STUPID reasons. All of s1, and basically since meeting each other, Lee and Shane were at each other's throats. Which I blame him for, but I'm biased. Shane would say stuff like "Hey, Lee, why don't you help the girls with the laundry today" while they're packing to go out for a hunt. Basically shooting down anything they try to do for themself or others and appointing himself The One In Charge and no one (other than Lee) fought him on it because,,, well THEY weren't gonna take charge and "someone had to do it". It's one of the main reasons they started going with Glenn on supply runs, just to get a break from King Shane and his tyranny.

Andrea: I don't have much for this except for the fact that I find her annoying and Lee would too. Also I just think she would agree with Shane more often than not, which puts her and Lee at odds. Especially at the farm, when Shane and Andrea are both wanting to abandon the search for Sophia.

Aiden and Nicholas from Alexandria: Aiden tried hitting on Lee when they first arrived with Rick's group, and even though things were rocky with Daryl and Carol at the time, it still just put a bad taste in their mouth. (There's also some plot stuff there with Daryl seeing them talking and further isolating himself because "Lee should be with someone their own age" and "Anyone would be better for them than me" boooo stupid mountain man shut UP they will love you till you love yourself) and Lee knew from first meeting Nicholas that he was a coward, so every time he proved that even more they'd like him less and less. Lee is already distrustful of the Alexandrians, but these two really make it worse lmao

There's very few happy moments in TWD canon, so I gotta just go with when they brought Sophia back to the group. Everyone had given up on either of them being alive, so it was really unexpected. Of course Carol was the happiest, her daughter basically came back from the dead, but Daryl was the happiest to see Lee. And it gave Rick (and the group by extension) more hope that things can actually work out sometimes.

And also ! That moment at the church after finding Gabriel (late s4 I believe? maybe early s5 idk), after the group had found a bunch of food and a safe place to sleep for the night, so they were all eating and chatting and joking around (I think they found wine too?) it was just a lovely moment + Lee was there. (and sophia !)

Ace tries to wear mostly practical things, but Negan likes to see her in impractical things, so it can be opposite ends of a spectrum at times lmao

What she prefers to wear (and ends up in most of the time):

Lots of bulky layers, full length sleeves and pants (to protect from bites and scratches), sturdy boots, a face covering (because she's worried about getting blood in her mouth ew), and always a couple weapons on her person.

What Negan would prefer she wear (aka what she puts on when she wants something from him):

NO protection (hoping it will deter her from wanting to go outside of the sanctuary), flashy jewelry (now that it doesn't really cost anything he likes to throw the big diamonds and his wives and eventually Ace as well), heels, dresses, usually all simple, from fitting and black. He likes to see her with her hair down and as little covering as possible (obviously). He'd be okay with something edgier, as long as it follows his criteria. He often picks things up that he'd like her to wear while visiting other communities and leaves them in her room, but she barely touches that stuff.

She really only wears ^this stuff in private. She might leave her jacket in her room if she's SURE she won't be leaving the sanctuary any time soon, but that's as close as she gets to unwinding outside of Negan's room when its just the two of them. Its mostly because she feels disrespected while she's wearing it. With Negan, she eventually wears it for him because she loves and trusts him and would put herself in (perceived) danger to make him happy. But she would never wear it outside of his room because she hates being stared at. People already whisper and spread rumors about her only getting responsibility because they're sleeping together(even though the responsibility came before that, they don't know lmao), she doesn't want to give the saviors any more ammunition to think of her in that way. There's also the fact that this is the stuff his wives wear, and Ace wants to make it as clear as possible to everyone around that she's NOT just one of his wives. Even to Negan, she makes him promise that he thinks of her as more than that.

BONUS:

I,, ,do not have a specific weapon for her unforcheese. BUT! Negan lets her use his bat ofc !! I had this hc i never posted where instead of like in canon where he hands his bat off to anyone as a sign of dominance (like "here you go, I know you won't do anything with it because you're so deathly afraid of me, so you can hang onto this for a while") he always hands it to Ace when she's around. Its a show of dominance in it's own way, kind of "I have a whole person that only exists to hold my things when i'm not using them".
