The Astral Ward are an amazing foil to the Pact; because while the Pact wasn't sure what they were doing was right and ended up saving the world multiple times, the Astral Ward is convinced of its own moral superiority and yet they nearly committed genocide against the Kryptis. Many of the Astral Ward leaders are still xenophobic towards the Kryptis even after Peitha proved that it was a fascist minority that was the enemy, meanwhile Pact leaders are radically accepting of whoever wants to join the fight for good... even former enemies.

And Isgarren is a foil to Trahearne, especially in fate. Trahearne was just a scholar who wanted to do good versus Isgarren as a powerful wizard from the get-go, and yet it was Trahearne who gave his life towards the defense of Tyria while Isgarren spends most of his time holed up in the Wizard's Tower... reading fanfiction of himself. And I include the fanfiction detail because how self-obsessed can you be to not only have enjoyed fanfiction of yourself but then keep it under your goddamn pillow?!

I feel like while the ending of SoTO was rushed, it wasn't an accident or last-minute decision. That very ending where the Astral Ward chose to keep treating the Kryptis as potential crimminals was supposed to be eye-opening for what the Astral Ward actually was: a hypocrite's organization that has only stayed aloft because of the few and far between good people it's pulled into it's fold. And when you compare it to the Pact, it becomes more obvious it's shortfalls.

Here's hoping Zojja will become the Astral Ward's saving grace, because for me? There's not much else going for them.
