Heritage of Unrest - Thalamus
Well, it’s been a while since I’ve posted on here, but after getting a request from a new follower to check these guys out, I figured why not?
Off the bat, I was drawn in by the EP artwork. In my opinion, the better the album art/logo, the better I expect a band to be. After seeing that they describe themselves as a “rap influenced” (I’m personally a fan of rap but I usually don’t think it mixes well with heavier genres) metalcore band, I was turned off a little bit until I started listening through Thalamus.
To my surprise, I actually enjoy hearing the rap influence in this track and a few other songs on their newly-released EP, Thalamus. To me, it almost tips a cap to Guardians-era The Crimson Armada, one of my all-time favorite time periods of any band.
The mixing/mastering is on par with that of similar bands in the genre, maybe lacking just slightly in the low end (but that’s just my taste).
All the way through the EP, you’ll hear everything from fast riffs to slower breakdowns and a lot of variety mixed throughout. Overall, I’m thoroughly impressed with Heritage of Unrest. I didn’t expect to enjoy this EP as much as I am, but here we are.
SOLID 8/10.
For fans of: The Crimson Armada, Architects, and Bring Me the Horizon.
