Wyves - Spoils of War
Ladies and gentlemen, the wait is over. Wyves, sets the stage on fire with their own brand of sex magic– high energy, hard, unapologetic. After only one show, I was hooked.

One of the privileges of following local music is that I get to witness the growth and development of bands. I see the best bands mature into artists. It’s usually a long process, about five years long. I’ve noticed that one of the last things a band learns, one of the last elements to fall into place, is control. Having exact control of their sound allows a band to bring nuances to their music that make a good band great. Case in point: Japhy’s Descent and their new EP, Senseless.

Imagine sounds that evoke the imagery, the ebb and flow of the aurora-borealis behind your eyes. Shimmering colors. Dancing colors. The colors of the human aura. Imagine music that invites you to a higher place of thought and feeling. Such is the music of Moons Eat Stars. No, their songs don’t have lyrics. Lyrics would define the music for you– tell you how to feel, what to think. Instead, the melodies allow us to make our own choices, to imagine, to envision our own thoughts.

Ana Log
Ana Log has that smooth but edgy Indie sound I love. First impression: surprise and delight. Lead vocalist, Melody Michelle has a much deeper, more powerful voice than one would expect from her petite and graceful form. She wields that voice with tremendous precision, gliding through high and low, soft and strong notes with uncommon ease. Only the best strong voices can sing gently with sweetness. Melody is one of the best.

Lazy Eye
Lazy Eye has that up-beat, cheerful sound that belongs on good radio. In the long tradition of the best of British Pop, band members Scott Powell, (guitar/lead vocals), Paul Sergeant (drums), James Corbishley (guitar), Josh Egan (bass) deliver excellence in their new EP, First Thing Tomorrow. Of course the melodies are catchy and lyrics are often clever, with just the right touch of humor, but Lazy Eye is more than a pop boy band. They have an edgy side too, as evidenced in their previous singles Get Get Get and Heartbeat Know.

Meet Ten Cent Dinosaur: The Interview
Photo and interview by Cindy Dunn
With a name born of toys found at a yard sale, Ten Cent Dinosaur is one of the most accomplished new bands in the Valley. (See the previous article for details.) I’ve been very curious to find out more about what makes them tick. Band members Roger Yelton (guitar), William Brown (drums), Brennan Sarver (guitar and vocals) and William “Unk” Unkefer (bass) were glad to answer a few questions for me.

The Bittersweet Way - Songs We Want To Sing
Add one part sweet vocal, one part solid guitar and one part crazy-ass drummer. Blend well and there you have The Bittersweet Way live. Duo Jed Foster (guitar/vocals) and Danny McWatters (drums) bring it hard when they play a show. I once saw Jed play/sing an entire set perfectly despite having a very painful cracked rib.
