having a very public breakdown on tumblr is actually quite noble and should be respected
so apparently this bill was passed into law. i have mixed feelings. i think liberal arts and humanities degrees shouldn't exist, neither should universities as an institution. in a just world, the educational materials and facilities would be seized by the government and made free and available people to everywhere. no applications. no rejections. this is the natural conclusion of "education is good", but academics would never support that because they are unwilling to confront how the gatekeeping of history, art, and cultural knowledge are what enables their careers. if colleges are not for finding employment, but education solely for the sake of education, then why don't we abolish grades and make every class pass/fail? why the restrictive attendance policies and lack of flexibility that hurts students with responsibilities and obligations like children, working, caregiving? why are there limits on how many times one can retake a class? and so on.
if nothing else, i'm glad the ivory tower humanities academics (yes, even the adjuncts idc) are finally getting a much needed reality check.
