Another Mentorship Program! - Sunbloom Media Arts' Full Bloom Program 2025
I'm proud to say that I was selected as a mentor for Sunbloom Media Arts’s Full Bloom mentorship program. This week, I said hello to my super skilled mentee for this program, and attended my orientation earlier this week. Sunbloom is a non-profit organization working to grow the games industry into a safer and more equitable space by fostering community and providing opportunities for people of color.
As a mentor in the Full Bloom program, I’ll work 1:1 with my mentee to set clear goals, review progress, and provide guidance based on my experience in the games industry. We commit to at least six sessions over the 15-week program, giving us time to build a supportive relationship while keeping the structure manageable. Throughout the program, I’ll help my mentee identify challenges, develop strategies, and stay accountable to the goals they set for themself.
The Sunbloom organizers also provide resources for both of us, including guidance materials, onboarding sessions, and monthly surveys meant to keep the program responsive and effective. In addition to our individual meetings, we have a shared Discord community where past and present mentors and mentees connect, and exchange ideas. This combination of structured mentorship and community support creates an environment where emerging game developers—especially those from marginalized backgrounds—can gain both personal guidance and a broader professional network.
I love Sunbloom's organized approach to this program's coordination. It's results-oriented. Their focus on ensuring that both parties benefit from the knowledge exchange aligns with my belief that mentorship isn't about handing knowledge down to someone with less time behind them in the industry. Everyone has something to offer and teach, regardless of their so-called 'relevant experience'. Looking forward to the Full Bloom showcase in November!
