Real Artist Problems:

Palette for Februrary!!!
This month so far has been a pretty warm one for midwesterners; I’m definitely in the spring mood.
What can you make from this palette?
a speedpaint study of takuya ebihara for practice :)

Hello! I'm a self taught artist who wants to get better at shading/lighting and backgrounds especially. But whenever I try to do a background study, I can't break it down and it ends up looking terrible. Do you know of anything that would help?
Hi! I would like to talk a little bit of the thought process behind photo study and the importance of simplicity.
It is really important to break down an image to chunks of value rather than seeing the detail first, which can lead to over-complicated mush of colors with no constructed value.
These are some of the artists that inspired me to get used to breaking down images in the most simplest way possible:
Notice how super simple and straight-on-point his thumbs are? And this is how his colorscript for Moana looks like:
Zero detail. Yet you have all the information you need!
I personally think these thumb studies are super important to train your eyes to break down an image in values and colors and therefore be able to organize and design your painting better.
Very sad to hear of John Watkiss’ passing. Incredibly talented and did some amazing work for Disney Animation.
Little time-lapse video for painting a digital portrait using photoshop. Ref had been used for the face :) http://aarongriffinart.deviantart.com/art/Portrait...
Speedpaints are extremely helpful to artists who want to learn easy shortcuts in painting digitally. You can pinpoint where the artist adds their own flair by adding random bits of color in the skintone.
try to make a piece from these colors!

One evening last week, C.S.I. Walker Berg of the Portland Oregon Police Bureau looked out a window on the 12th floor of the Justice Center to discover an incredible sight: trees freshly covered in thick white snow were covered in yet another layer of thousands of black crows. Berg grabbed a Nikon D7
Sometimes we don’t even have to make our own art; nature does it for us! What do these images inspire everyone to make?
OH MY GOD PAY, BLESS YOUR FACE.
I actually get asked to see a lot of portfolio’s while I’m at cons. And while I LOVE looking at other people’s art and offering critiques if they ask, it’s sort of cringe-y to be handed a messy stack of papers or something. Nice portfolio’s look so much more professional!
putting this up, since my website project for university is finished and I don’t have to put it on the web anymore.
a very, very basic image guide on how your portfolio should be presented or appear, whether you’re in fine arts, graphic design or illustration, illustrated by yours truly
please do NOT remove the commentary while reblogging, do not reupload anywhere else.
thank you!

hi!
I’m Hailey and I’m a student artist in high school.
This blog is for me to show my art to the public and hopefully give people ideas and inspiration with my pieces. I’ll probably talk about my processes and feelings about certain types of art-related things too.
As an aspiring game designer, I try to make cool ideas out if little day-to-day things, like teacups and spools of string. Art has always been my passion, ever since my mom stuck a pencil in my hand one day to keep me from causing a ruckus. I didn’t start taking art seriously until 6th grade, and I finally found out I wanted to major in game design my sophomore year of highschool. I’m a self-taught artist who desires to be at her peak performance always.
My biggest project right now is a story that mixes the political and social issues of today into a story of a boy in a big city who has to battle gang violence, police corruption, drug cartels, and his own struggle with mental illness and the paranoia of his future.
Some things to know about me are that I’m a huge fan of plants; I really do love botany. I have a couple of self-grown plants - my favorite is a jar of moss; it’s name is Greecho.
I also love to get active - namely with racquetball and tennis. I’m also on my high school’s wrestling team as a manager! I’m a pretty energetic person, and I love to find unique ways to solve problems.
I hope you enjoy my blog!
