She ignored the Whitehills with what grace she could. She tried to turn a blind eye to the mess they had made – to the shredded tapestry, thrown aside like it was trash. She supposed that’s all that it was to them – trash.
Talia doesn’t want him to take her away from her home. Dangerous as it may be, it was still her home. It was where she had grown up. It was where she had been at Ethan & Ryon’s side, as well as all the others she loved. Before everything went wrong, things had been good here – she supposed she had never shaken the hope that things might be good again… Though it seemed she would not be able to stay long enough to see her hopes come true.
She keeps her hands folded in front of her, her back stiff & an expression she can hope will pass as dignified on her face.
She tried not to let out a dry laugh at his words – her letting him? Agreeing? if she had it her way, she’d stand by her house until the very end… Though it seemed it wouldn’t be so.
She nods nonetheless, holding whatever grace she could. She would act a lady, rather than a child. She had too if she wished to make it through this with her pride in tact.
“ Perhaps we should go somewhere more private — without drunken fools & cowards there to pry. “
She spoke boldly. She ought to have met him in the yard rather than in the hall – the Whitehills had claimed the great hall as their own…. it wasn’t though & she wouldn’t let them scare her. She was stronger than that, she told herself.
Bard knew how difficult this must be for her, to now be torn away from her home and her family. He wished this didn’t have to happen but in a situation like this, there was no other choice. It was either marriage or open war against a house that Bard knew his people had no chance to defeat, not when they aren’t at their best. He couldn’t do that to his people no matter how much they had wanted to fight.
Her bold words surprised him, not because he had thought her to be weak, but rather it seemed a wrong thing to say with the Whitehills in the room. Bard had always been taught to know the right things to say in certain situations and he knew better than to escalate an already volatile state, but it seemed Talia had no desire to hold back. He’d admire her strength, if he had not thought it a bad move considering everything that’s going on.
The Whitehills reacted accordingly, frowns and some of them stepping forward, but Bard gave a look to his guards who made their move, essentially blocking the Whitehills from getting to the Forrester girl.
“I don’t need Whitehill men to get in the way of me deciding what to do with my betrothed, I can take care of it.”
Bard’s voice steady and strong. He may simply be a boy of sixteen but he is the lord of his house. The Whitehills may think they have favor but House Lagirion does not stand beneath them. They may have sworn fealty to the Boltons but that is all Lagirions will do.
Taking Talia by the arm, he pulls her into an empty room and signaled his guards to stand watch.
“As much as I admire your bravery, Lady Talia, you should choose your words more carefully.”
ithiliell:
“It is an honor to be here, hopefully joining our peoples in friendship and trade, like the days of old. I think time enough has passed that we have remained ignorant of each others cultures. I hope you can agree?“
“I most certainly agree, it is time our people know each other and not be such strangers...” Their two regions of men had spent too much time apart, even with the renewed trade and communication, the distance has often been the reason for lack of interaction. But Bard wishes for that to change.
likexsummerxrain:
The order had been GIVEN & Talia couldn’t be any more unhappy. She was to marry a stranger – she was supposed to be given to him as a wife. To say she was unhappy was an understatement.
She had heard of the other’s house — how after Robb Stark had fallen they had bent the knee to the Boltons. She knew little of their intentions, but could only assume the worst. She remembered when Ethan had refused to kneel to the bastard — & she remembered when he finally had.
She had been watching from a window in Ironrath when he had arrived. He would eventually take her out of the gates of her home & to a new one – it was terrifying, but she would face the situation with as much dignity as she could.
She had gone to the great hall to wait for him. She was supposed to already be there, but her stomach was churning & a pit had settled in her stomach. She didn’t want this. She didn’t want to marry him.
Seeing the look on all the faces of the people in Ironrath, Bard knew their days were not good. The Whitehill occupation of their home had clearly taken a toll and Bard understands more than anyone what they’re feeling. In fact there are Whitehill men in the halls as he arrived, no doubt to gloat more as the young girl Talia is practically sold off like cattle for the sport of the Boltons.
But to be honest, as bad as Bard feels for having to obey this, for taking Talia from her home, he feels relieved that he could at least keep one member of the Forrester family in safe hands. Once he gets her back to Esgaroth, once she becomes his wife under the eyes of the Gods, he could protect his wife as he wishes, even the Boltons would have no control over that, and maybe he could send her to safety with House Girion in the mountains, this way House Forrester would always have hope for survival in her.
All that may come later though, right now his first task is to make sure the betrothal and marriage goes through without any trouble, and he could bring her home to safety.
When he finally sees her enter, he is immediately struck by her sadness, he feels sorry for her and he more and more wants to protect her. Being as gentle and kind as he could, Bard gives a warm smile, hoping it would reassure her though he figures it probably would not, “Lady Talia, thank you for allowing me into your home...and for accepting the betrothal...” Not that either of them had a choice, but he wasn’t going to mention it with the Whitehills around.
littlemisssynesthesia:
“I wouldn’t have let him set anyone on fire, sweetie.”
“Dad’s way too happy with fires, last week he set the stove on fire, though I think that was an actual accident...he was trying to make meatballs...”

The order had been given and Bard knew he could not disobey, he knew this was Roose Bolton’s way of testing House Lagirion’s loyalty, to help settle this matter with the Forresters and the Whitehills. Bard wasn’t stupid to disregard the Bolton threat but he’s also well aware that his forces are hardly adequate to face the Boltons head on, any attempted rise of revolt would be suicide for his house and he would not risk his sisters’ lives like that.
So House Lagirion would bend the knee and accept the Boltons and their orders, they will bide their time until the day the North is ready to take their lands back from the traitors. They will wait for House Girion and the other Northern houses to gather strength from behind the scenes. For now, it’s time to play along.
He’s suppose to wed the Forrester girl, Talia, and he will do as he’s told, if nothing else, he might be able to keep her safe from whatever fallout of this conflict between the two rival houses.
Entering Ironrath with his guards and servants, Bard’s arrival is announced and he is brought into the great hall to meet his soon-to-be bride.
ithiliell:
“The journey was long, but it went with little difficulty. Thank you for your hospitality, and your agreement upon this meeting.”
“How could I refuse the arrival of a princess to Dale? We have not seen our brethren in the West for a while, your arrival is a glorious occasion.”
littlemisssynesthesia:
“That he did, kiddo. Does that make you happy?”
“It makes me happy that he’s okay and he’s home, and that he didn’t set anyone on fire...”
ithiliell
“Welcome to Dale, Princess...I hope your journey was well?”
behindthesametree
“Lady Elaena, I would welcome you into our halls but I can’t in good conscience say these days visiting here is any welcome with how things are right now...”
Bard’s father and mother are dead, one set of his aunt and uncle are too, and another set trapped at Torrhen’s Square. Now it’s just Bard and his sisters at Esgaroth, though now with the Boltons turning their attention here, it won’t be long before danger follows.

Getting Bard II back into the game :)
What do you love the most about your children and grandchildren?
Ask my muse questions about their relationship with another character.
“Each of my princes bring a different quality, and personality to our home. Brand is quite adventurous and gets into trouble, while Orvar is a learner, with a keen eye for details. My youngest…he is a quiet little one, he rather observe the world aroundhim rather than fight it.” She smiles as she speaks of her ownchildren, only wishing her husband could have watched theirfamily grow. “My grandson, little Bard, a wise boy– I’m not surehow he is so smart but Brand did a wonderful job with him. Hedoes miss his father but has been an amazing King to Dale. Thereis no one thing I love about them, I can not choose just one thingfor any of them. “
