Coelacanths are among the most primitive fish, originating hundreds of millions of years before the dinosaurs, during the Devonian Period, when they swam in great numbers over much of the Earth.

They average 5 feet (1.5 m) long, and weigh about 100 pounds (45 kg).

The highly mobile fins of these ancient fish are attached to fleshy limbs with a single bone, like arms. Lobe-finned fish eventually evolved into amphibians, reptiles, and eventually fully terrestrial animals.

Fish like these are our ancestors!

Coelacanths are slow-growing and long-lived: They become sexually mature between age 40 and 69, and can live to be 100 years old.

They are live-bearers who carry their young about five years before giving birth to well-developed young.

Fossil evidence had suggested ceolacanths went extinct 80 million years ago, until 1938 when a museum curator in South Africa found one in a pile of by-catch from local fishing boats.

Since then, populations have been identified in the West Indian Ocean, along the Eastern and Southern coasts of Africa, and in Indonesia. About 10,000 remain.

You wanna ship canonically aspec characters because “aro/ace people can still date/have sex”? Okay, then. LET’S DO IT.  I wanna see an aromantic character with an alloromantic love interest. I wanna see that confession of undying love and the moment when the aro character says they will never feel the same way—not romantically.

I wanna see the asexual character with their allosexual partner. I wanna see that moment when the ace characters tries sex with their partner for the first time because they want to make them happy only to realize that they are 100% sex repulsed.

I wanna see the two demiromantics who don’t even know if what they feel is romantic attraction, but they adore each other and just want to make healthy snacks together and destroy each other at Mario Kart.

I wanna see the two aces who love sensual affection and are figuring out what they define as sexual or not.

I wanna see the romance + sex neutral aroace who happily and consensually does whatever makes their partner happy…but their partner still struggles with feeling undesired.

Talviel's Redguard "Fire Salt" spice blend

I'm asked on the regular to relinquish my personal recipes for seasonings and spices, so here is one of my favourite blends for meats and vegetables alike. Inspired by alchemical fire salts (but nowhere near as dangerous as the real thing), this spice mix is ideal for when you need to add some oomph and colour to your meals. This recipe will produce a small jar of spice; simply store well and use as needed.

You will need:

2 tbsp pink Himalayan salt, finely ground

2 tsp brown sugar

1 tbsp cayenne powder

1/2 tbsp smoked paprika powder

3 tsp finely ground pepper

2 tsp cumin

2 tsp sumac

1 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp ginger powder

2 tsp garlic powder

Method:

Combine all the ingredients in a bowl or mortar, and gently crush together until well combined. Transfer to an airtight jar, give it a good shake, and store in a cool, dark, and dry place.
