“Fantasy is escapist, and that is its glory. If a soldier is imprisioned by the enemy, don’t we consider it his duty to escape?…If we value the freedom of mind and soul, if we’re partisans of liberty, then it’s our plain duty to escape, and to take as many people with us as we can!”
― J.R.R. Tolkien
here is your gentle reminder that there are dandelions growing through cracks in the sidewalk. there is a fence lizard on the porch who is growing a new tail. there are trees growing through an abandoned house, branches tearing through the ceiling, ferns carpeting the floor. there is life pushing forward, pushing through.
one thing about me is when i read or watch something and there's an evil child or some sort of monster who was born a monster i'm always going to side with the monster. sorry about your loser parents i would have loved you. skill issue
me: i’m a good writer. i know my worth and i’m confident in my skill set and i know i can do this. me, five minutes later: what if i’m terrible? what if everyone who has ever read my work and thought it was good was lying? too afraid to tell me the truth? blackmailed by aliens? what if everything i write is terrible and too scattered/forced/hollow what if i don’t know how to make a sentence. where do verbs go. how do u emotion
“omg you’re so creative. how do you get your ideas” i hallucinate a single scene in the taco bell drive thru and then spend 13 months trying to write it
"The fundamental planes from which one might draw magic power are: earth, water, air and fire. In the tome which I currently hold, each of these will have a separate chapter dedicated to it, ordered according to the level of difficulty and danger associated with the element discussed and-... Zireael, are you even listening?" Accompanying music
“You’re painfully alive in a drugged and dying culture.”
— Richard Yates, Revolutionary Road (via the-book-diaries)
I lived in books more than I lived anywhere else.
in english we say: "I love you."
but in poetry we say: "Tell me every terrible thing you ever did, and let me love you anyways."
“She hated being so clumsy with words, when words meant so much.”
— Joyce Carol Oates, The Spill, Give Me Your Heart (via wordsnquotes)
“If someone treats you badly recognize that there is something wrong with them, not you. Normal people do not go around destroying other people.”
— Unknown
what a privilege it is to come home to a little animal that loves you like you're their whole world.
When dogs make eye contact with you and start wagging their tail, then you start talking to them and they wag it harder
Reblog if u agree
writing is hard because sometimes you want to write a sentence that is pleasant and rhythmic and compelling to read and sometimes you just want to get the characters across a damn room
what people think is hard about writing: describing the joy, love, beauty, grief, loss and hope that form the richness of human experience
what is actually hard about writing: describing basic actions such as turning, leaning over, reclining, gesturing, saying something in a quiet voice, breathing, getting up from chairs, and walking across rooms
no thoughts, just 200 half-finished drafts living rent-free in my brain
