Back in the fall we recorded the soundtrack for a documentary about the history of medical practices in Markham. The music was written and performed by Bryan Moyer-Suderman, great guy and fantastic songwriter.
We just got word that the documentary will be broadcast on Rogers Cable! We are super excited about it!

Hello good people of the internet, it's been a good trip so far. We're finalizing the layout of our site now, and making sure everything is in working order. We aim to have you hooked on discovering new bands from the GTA soon enough. Our passion is finding great new music to share with you.
Let's take a step back and look at our personal music libraries. The way they evolve over the years is a beautiful scene to me. Collecting tunes from all over the musical spectrum. Personal tastes expand over time as we discover new styles and artists. Go back to your library after a few years, and you'll find the music has a bit more sentimental value. Go on a raging 90's kick and get your grunge on! Then just when you least expect it, a brand spanking new tune will catch your eye, and win your heart.
There's a lot of great music out there. One tune can liven your week, or even a summer. Best part is, there's always more tunes coming your way. Some more the same than others. All of the music good.
Barnside Sessions is from where new music emerges.

Dabbling in Classical
We got a shout out yesterday on the Theatre of the Beat blog! We have been helping them with the score to their next play, Forgiven/Forgotten. It was an honour working with the Schweigen Trio they are incredible musicians!
Forgiven/Forgotten is opening in KW, at the Conrad Center on April 18, and playing in the distillery district May 4th. Then they are touring it across Canada for three months!
The score was written by our very own Jason McDowell and recorded by David. It is available for free download at Fine Enough Records!

We know it's been a long time coming, but there's been some serious progress made in the website workshop. Jason has been working on a new site layout, and it looks great so far. Our plan is to bring you some great Canadian talent, in a clean, user-friendly website. Once we release the site, it'll be a hotspot for hearing about new talent in the Greater Toronto Area. Every couple weeks or so, we'll be featuring a new musician. This means our front page will getting frequent facelifts. You musicians will be the face of our site, and our body will be the strong community we want to build around us.
Above is our site layout so far. Just a rough sample so you get an idea of what to expect. Keep in mind, this view is from an ipad, so the site should look bigger on a desktop. When you arrive at our site, you'll be greeted by our featured artist. You'll be able to hear their Barnside Session, look at pictures, watch an interview, and read short pieces written by our authors/community. Those links on the left side will take you to different pages on our site. Tonight in Toronto is a list of events taking place at the venues we track in the GTA, including Barnside artists who correspond with us. You'll also find a link for purchasing Barnside sessions and other media. Keep in mind that every dollar spent in our store will be matched by us in the form of recording time for that artist.
We're intentionally constructing our site to be a more personal and engaging experience than your average web database. Once this web space is complete, we'll be streaming great music, and talking with all you folks about our sessions and more! We hope this tool will give you the means to unite and strengthen the Canadian music scene. We can't wait to work with you.

Snares in the Studio
Before the Snare, southern Ontario's folk/rock outfit from the booming town of Stouffville have been in and out of our studio lately. This week they captured the sounds of acoustic instruments, voices, and friendship. Last night they cranked up the bass. Of course our air tight studio could handle the deep bass booming all night. Snare wrapped up at around midnight, but are back in there right now. We're looking forward to hearing the final product some time this summer.
Chasing Fame!
Stouffville's own Chasing Jane absolutely destroyed the Horseshoe on Saturday night! Apparently reps from EMI records were there, and no surprise, talks will commence soon! Now David has his nose to the grind stone trying to polish off our recordings for them to present to the producers at EMI. We are thrilled to see Chasing Jane gain some momentum, or maybe it just people are starting to pick up on the momentum their songs have had all along! April 12 they are playing buggys in Stouffville with two other heavy hitters: Hello Beautiful and Glass Amp. We'll keep you posted on the latest with Chasing Jane!
