It's been a little while, but I sketched my impressions of the original book. The death of Queezle and the exchange between BartNat, as well as the past of the resistance group, were particularly memorable.
By reading the original version, I realized that the characteristics of Timothy and Eva had been mistranslated in the Japanese version. In the Japanese version, Timothy was described as a 15-year-old boy with brown curly hair. These are actually Eva's characteristics. It was a surprising discovery. The paperback version had been corrected properly. And as Kitty becomes more and more involved in the activities of the resistance group, she begins to look down on her parents and school, which is very similar to Nat. They are like mirror images of each other.
I'm reading the original story English version. Bart and Nat's interactions are so cute. Nat says he believes in Bart, and there is also a scene where they say thank you to each other. Nat acts honestly and does his best to solve the case, but no one believes in him or sides with him. Considering that Nat is only fourteen years old, it is inevitable that his personality will be warped. In addition, the fact that Tallow was killed by the demon caused Nat to close his heart again, which had been opening up to Bart. He was completely isolated. If there had been someone around who he could trust a little more, or if it hadn't been Tallow's case, the outcome might have been different. I read it with sympathy for Nat, partly because I've grown up myself. He's cheeky, but in the end he's a kid with no allies. I also like Resistance group and Honorius, so I enjoyed reading this part. Of the Resistance members, I like Stanley the best, but I also like Fred. He's reliable. Without him, Kitty and Nick wouldn't have been able to escape.
And this is the part that has been hidden. It's Fred and Stanley, Ann, Pennyfeather and Honorius!
It is taking time, but I am steadily making progress in reading the original book. BartNat is really cute in the Prague chapter. Bart has a habit of imitating his favorite people, and at the time, he was wearing a coat that resembled Nat's clothes and imitating Nat's gestures. I think he was starting to feel affection for Nathaniel at this time. I also get a glimpse of Bart's feelings of hope for Nat's conscience. Many of the characters in Stroud's works think, “I don't mind becoming a sinner myself, but I want you to remain innocent.” For example, Scarlett and Albert both hope for this. Bart doesn't think killing people is wrong, he just doesn't want Nat to become a killer. This may not be quite justice, but it is definitely a prayer for the other person. The resistance group is also very good. Fred is reliable and cool. The interactions between Stanley and Kitty are also cute.
BartNat manga I finally started and completed a manga that was requested two years ago. The person who made the request might not be around anymore, but here I am, still drawing BartNat two years later, haha.
I got a similar request before, so this one ended up with a similar vibe. By the way, I’m also writing a novel (or fanfiction?) with the same setting↓ https://www.pixiv.net/novel/show.php?id=23394799 It’s a Japanese work posted only on pixiv, but feel free to try translating it if you’d like. Wonder if anyone would go through the trouble of translating it to read?
The idea of Nat keeping his promise to Kitty in GE, and therefore not parting ways with Bart, seems to be something everyone wants to see. Of course, I want to see it too.
Regarding that scene, in my view, Bart’s disappointment isn’t just disillusionment with Nathaniel’s lack of conscience but also stems from Bart realizing that Nathaniel didn’t truly trust him. If Nathaniel had fully trusted Bart, he would have talked to him about Makepeace’s hostage plan and consulted him about being unable to keep his promise to Kitty due to suspicions of conspiring with the resistance. However, perhaps because of the Tallow incident, Nathaniel didn’t treat Bart as an ally and shared no necessary information with him, which led to Bart’s deep disappointment. And I think that ties into Bart’s final line, “You're also completely friendless and alone.” In AoS, Nat says to Bart, “I have you.” In GE, Nat doesn’t treat Bart as an ally, and Bart is disappointed by it. Then in PG, Bart responds, “You're not totally alone. You've always got me.” Isn’t that just too perfect? I’ve been floored by the beauty of this composition time and time again.
By the way, is it true that Stroud has started working on a new Bartimaeus book again? He’s mentioned the possibility before, but now that The Scarlett and Browne has concluded, the talk of a new Bartimaeus story feels more and more real. The next Stroud novel might really be Bartimaeus. To be honest, I feel more scared than excited. I love Nathaniel best, but I know full well he won't appear. The thought of Bart forming a strong bond with anyone other than Nat makes me feel lonely and sad. It might be a bit mad, I know. Honestly, it took a lot of courage to read RoS. Right now, I feel like I want someone to hold my hand.
If only, 'cause for the first time I was truly scared of Bart. 😰
I've finally started to organize the photos I took on a trip to London and Prague a year ago. I still plan to draw more pictures like this.
I've added some more photos! There are some photos of places that aren't related to Stroud's work, but I added them because I liked them.
I've finally finished reading GE! It took me over half a year because I was drawing sketches as I read. When I read it again, comparing it with the original, I found a lot of things. The Japanese version of Nat is a little more childish and impulsive. Kitty has a lot of aspects that make me worry, but even so, she's still cool in the second half. She's the only one who unconditionally continued to help Nathaniel from start to finish(Of course, I think that's true of Bart in a way, but that's just my wishful thinking). If Bart really wanted Nat to die, he shouldn't have stopped Kitty. If he just wanted to test Kitty's conscience, he should have stopped her one last time. However, Bart lured Kitty into danger (in a way she hated the most), and after Nat was saved, he didn't call Kitty back. In RoS, Bart immediately left the scene, intending to leave Azmira to die. He hid until Azmira died and he was freed. Thinking about it like that, Bart seems to have had quite a lot of compassion for Nat. I don't think Bart was going to go out of his way to risk his own life to save Nat, but he still had enough compassion to give Nat one last chance. Probably. After a short break, I'd like to try my hand at PG.
Bartimaeus: If I run and jump at Nathaniel, he’ll catch me in his arms.
Kitty: I wanna see it.
Bartimaeus: *starts running at Nathaniel*
Nathaniel: No,no,no, i'm holding hot coffee-!
Nathaniel: *drops coffee to catch Bartimaeus*
I loved this post so much that I took the liberty of drawing it. @rosie-tyler I'm sorry for taking the liberty, IT’S SOOO CUTE. And I am not sure if my understanding of English is correct. Thank you for all your excellent contributions.

I drew the comic for Bartimaeus Golem’s Eye Chapter 28. It’s something I drew before. I couldn’t draw the background, so there are discrepancies with the description in the main story. P.S. This is an English translation based on the main story of Bartimaeus. Some dialogues have been omitted or changed in order to fit within the frame. If you find something that doesn’t feel right, I’d be happy to point you in the direction of a more natural translation!
I drew the comic for Bartimaeus The Amulet of Samarkand Chapter 31. This is my favorite scene in the first volume. P.S. This is an English translation based on the main story of Bartimaeus. Some dialogues have been omitted or changed in order to fit within the frame. If you find something that doesn’t feel right, I’d be happy to point you in the direction of a more natural translation!
