when i was a toddler i used to love watching my grandpa shave. i would sit on his table (yes on top of it) and just be in awe of the process. sometimes he'd put shaving cream on my dolls and pretend to shave their faces too. yesterday, on his 90th birthday, i pulled up a chair and did the same (minus the dolls). the entire time i was wondering what was going on in his head watching me, 15 years older, at the same spot, with the same eyes. i noticed that his routine has changed, his skin is a lot looser and he has to do everything incredibly slowly. i thought it was kind of crazy how vividly i remembered how it was back then. when he was done i think my eyes were a little watery. i know that he is very old and that his time will come but i cant imagine my life without him. im not just saying that, i geniunely can not. suddenly i realize how those people in stories who chased immortality felt. i would also want love to last forever.
