Women in Design Conference
It was truly an inspiring weekend for all of us who attended the Women in Design Conference, organized by Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA). This amazing gathering was built to celebrate the unique talents, initiatives and challenges of women in the industrial design industry.
The program was packed full of inspiring design leaders. Together we reflected on the women's progress in our industry from Nancy Perkins, reminded about the journeys of "A few" unrecognized women in design from 1930- 70 from Vicki Matranga, Design Programs Coordinator at IHA, participated in the fireside chats with Victoria Slaker of Ammunition and Susanne LeBarre of Fast Company, Nichole Roulliac's perspective on the importance of mentorship programs, and the Creative tensions workshop with Marcelle van Buesekom from IDEO. I thought the Fearless Workshop with Katherine Hargreaves simply amazing, one that every professional should attend. Hearing Shujan Bertran's inspiring story behind aplat, Laura's entertaining but at the same time very important message on Intersectionality, Katie Dill' s brave and authentic journey on designing design and Isabelle Olsson's message on "Design Feeling" from Google wearables was spectacular.
This was a day where we heard voices from the divergent backgrounds, experiences and perspectives. This diversity is also what makes our design community strong so we can make a positive impact in our communities.
Thank you IDSA and all volunteers that made this meaningful day possible for all of us.
11 Mayıs’tan bu yana bahçelerinde nöbet tutan gönüllüler, bahçede bir araya gelerek CHP’li Balçova Belediyesi'nin kararını protesto etti.
Thank you our lovely parents Selin & Leyla for preparing our graduation day gift goodie bags!
Happy Mothers' Day to all the lovely women that have touched our hearts...
Today was the first day our school was open post our festival. While our students were in class, the parents over Yildiray Bey's delicious suboregi reflected on the great results our community achieved at our festival fundraiser. Basak Altan's CCA Industrial Design Students visited BTS and
After two months of break we started our Spring Semester today with great energy and momentum both inside the classrooms as well as outside. On turbulant times like these, we are reminded of how important it is to belong to a larger community that values diversity and peace. While our little global citizens joined their classmates with their teachers in their classrooms, we the Berkeley Turkish School Parents brainstormed together over coffee about what this community school means for each of us. We elaborated on what and how each one of us could help to achieve these goals as a community school. Out of this very valuable brainstorming session came out some great insights, and information. We realize this is just the begining and it takes diligence, commitment and time to deliver on these. However we are confident that they are attainable, because we all witnessed the level of commitment and energy behind all of our parents who participated. We are very excited to report that we now have key parents leading certain tasks to grow our community school. Thank you for being a part of this meaningful community. We couldn't do without your support and dedication. As we receive photos from our first day we will be posting to our blog. See you all next Sunday!
We thank all those who attended and participated at our open house and registration event this morning. It was a great venue for many reasons. We were excited to meet new faces, and catch up with old friends. It was also great to hear from our teachers whom each gave an overview of their classrooms' goals and activities for the semester and how parents can support their efforts. We also went through what is new this semester. On the first day of school we will be asking our parents to sign up for the following: * Monthly Parent Classroom Coordinators * 2 Library Coordinators for the semester * BTS Ambassadors for: o Hosting Fundraising DInners o Organising Mothers' Day Brunch o Graduation Day Celebration & Gifts for Children o Hosting Teacher Appreciation Dinner If you are interested in registering for this semester, please make sure to fill out our online registration here by JANUARY 25th, 2017. Our teachers will be preparing for their classroom needs based on this roster, so please go ahead and sign up now. First day of classes are on February 5th, 2017. Thank you and looking forward to a great semester together.
On this brisk December morning with some recent sad news from Turkey, we sang along to songs accompanied with one of our parents Tuğsan and his guitar that warmed our hearts. We watched slide shows that reminded us how much we had all grown together and how much we all had accomplished in such a short time. We enjoyed lovely conversations over coffee while tasting delicious suböreği, pide and many more Turkish treats our parents brought. Together, we managed to squeeze a lot of meaningful moments of appreciation of this community, hugs, laughter and a few tears here and there. As we wrapped up the ending of another semester at the Berkeley Turkish School we were yet reminded of how precious life is. Here are some scenes from the day. Wishing you Happy Holidays from all of us at The Berkeley Turkish School.
Cheers to a great beginning of the 2016-2017 Academic year at the Berkeley Turkish School. It was a fun day full of great energy, excitement and many new faces. We thank all of those, especially our teachers, who have been working really hard in the background to prepare for this great start. We have 49 students registered for the fall semester. Thank you on behalf of the Berkeley Turkish School for joining our growing community where we teach culture through creativity. Here's a few scenes from our first day.
Design Research to final show
I think the rule is if you are working on many different projects at the same time, reflecting back and writing about them is a tough one... At least this is the way it is in my case and I admire the professionals who actually make the time to write about their projects... Â However, this one is true to my heart, and I can not skip a beat here:
Last night I attended my first round of Industrial design students’ final show at California College of Arts. It was great to see the evolution of their product concepts from the point where I handed off - which was the design research phase of their thesis class - to the final senior show.  I would like to thank all of you who came to lecture in our classroom, and made the time in their busy schedules to become mentors to a few of the students.
At times like these that one can’t help but remember the excitement and the anxiety for what is next around the corner. So I hope those of you who are reading this, and run great companies, take a few moments and consider if you would like to hire some very talented, critical thinkers form the latest graduates of  CCA Industrial design department.
I know the semester just ended but I am already lining up some lecturers for my fall schedule- If you are interested do let me know.
Cheers and congratulations to the graduating class of CCA ID!

The book on "Innovation for a Sustainable Future" I have been co authoring and designing with faculty at Presidio Graduate School is now online.
I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to teach classes with Dr. Dariush Rafinejad and Sharmila Singh on how to develop products and services to meet multiple economic, social and environmental objectives.Â
If you are interested in being inspired and would like to learn more about how to design products that are successful, make a positive impact to well-being, and have minimal impact on the environment, here’s a great resource of passionate student work that shows innovative way of thinking about designing services, products and approaching problem solving.
