I get asked constantly where I got my things and/or if I could make them available to download.
I won’t make my things available to download mostly for three reasons:
1. This isn’t exactly legal, and I’d rather not get into trouble. I’m not worried about IRL trouble - I’m more worried about things like blog-deleting, which has happened in the past and was a major bummer because I have quite a lot of time of my life invested in this. I’d rather not have to do it all again.
2. Following what I said above, I waste loads of time in this and get no compensation for it. If you want the actual models, you should get them yourself. I really don’t feel like just putting them up in the wild world that is the Internet when I’m pretty sure most of the time I’m not even going to get a pat in the back.
3. The SB4/Sumeragi files in particular are somewhat chaotic and, when I save them to more general formats after cleaning them up, they don’t always work right. I don’t want to do troubleshooting on top of running this blog.
However, I’m not going to just leave you out in the cold - I didn’t make this post to complain about how the Internet is a dark, unfriendly place or whatever. I’m going to tell you what I used. Good luck on your mission.
For SB3 (and probably Utage? I don’t remember what I did for Utage tbh):
- Get Wii iso
- Get Wiiscrubber for extraction
- Get BRRESviewer for viewing what you extracted with Wiiscrubber and/or convert the files into something you can manipulate somewhere else
- Go crazy in your preferred 3D program
For SB4/Sumeragi:
- Get PS3 iso
- Get Noesis to extract stuff from the PS3 files
- Get 3ds Max to get the models, manipulate them, convert to other formats, etc...
- Go to the Xentax forums, look for a script that should work for Capcom models in general
- Use the script in 3ds Max to open the models and do whatever you want with them
Other useful things to know:
- I tend to use Milkshape to take my pics because it’s lightweight and easy to use. If your computer isn’t very powerful or you just don’t have any use for heavier programs, this should suffice.
- Noesis is also a nice viewer to have in general, it opens a bunchton of file formats from several games. I always try opening something up in the latest version of Noesis before googling for specific solutions.
- You can also get some sounds/music this way, in SB3/Utage’s case. In SB4/Sumeragi, it’s possible to easily view the videos using the iso’s files if you look for some other tools not listed here. Noesis will allow you to view textures and get game assets from the PS3 games (that’s how I made that still-unfinished fancy character selection page I posted a while ago), if you’re not that interested in the 3D part. Have fun.
